in Tuesday Open Thread: Hi Everybody on Jack and Jill Politics
I read the "Racial Barbs..." article and some of the comments attached to it. It amazes me that some people will come forth with the same anti-black boilerplate no matter what the specific subject is. Instead of commenting on the "Whitey" phenomenon, the want to know stuff like... "Why is there a United Negro College Fund?".

This is a bit OT, but what happened to SNL? Last time I looked, they pretty openly supported Clinton.

Speaking of Tubbs-Jones, Here is her interview with Andrea Mitchell:

Notice the kabuki being played out here? They both act as if Clinton only talked about white working class voters, and never used the phrase "hard working".

in HHH Donald Payne Switches to Obama on Jack and Jill Politics
"I'm betting on Chief Mammy Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, and only cause there's starting to be rumblings about fielding a challenger to her seat because she didn't go for Obama in the first place, and especially after showing her arse at the Negro Super Bowl back in February for Missy Hillary."

I agree about Tubbs-Jones not coming around because she has a prominent role in the Clinton camp. But, even if she did, it shouldn't matter with her. She needs to have a primary challenger next time she's up for election, no matter what she does...even if she switches to Obama. It's too late for her to come around. It was too late a while ago, because unlike some other black elected officials who support Clinton, she was and is a willing participant in Clinton's racist strategy. She's actually worked hard to advance it. At this point, there shouldn't be ANYTHING she can do to avoid a primary challenger. She need to go. Period.

That shoe has already dropped. To no real effect. Keep trying, though. ok?

in Clinton Wins Indiana Via Rush Limbaugh’s ‘Operation Chaos’ on Jack and Jill Politics
"Wolf and that white Lake County mayor were trying to blast the Black mayor form the slow count. He pretty much accused him of impropriety."

That's what I don't understand. How would or could the mayor of Gary have that much control over the county election officials? Something else I couldn't understand is how the Hammond mayor could accuse him of corruption when the votes that were still out were from outside Gary, or in other words...the Clinton-supporting part of the county, which includes Hammond.

in Condoleeza Rice - Conflicting and Confusing for me on Jack and Jill Politics
"More or less seriously, can blacks make a proactive difference within the Republican party, if there is a shift? Honestly, it's not like certain core Republican values are alien or antithetical to the black community. As for the rest, why couldn't we have the power and the numbers to update and broaden those other values"?

No, we can't. We don't have the numbers and the power to update those other "values". The only thing it will result in is us willingly cosigning policies that are designed to hurt us.

As for blacks sharing "core Republican values"...really? I think you, like many other people, have bought into the conservatives' redefinition of basically living a decent life as being exclusively "conservative". It's not, and never has been.

:Buchanan's point is that if you're going to have a full discussion on race in America, then you have to not only talk about the harm that's been done on both sides, but the good"

I don't agree. It's not just a matter of phrasing, and he wasn't trying to point out the good- because he doesn't think any of the examples he gave WERE good. He thinks of them only as part of an effort to appease, and as such, he thinks they're bad.

"Crying wolf?...soon no one will listen".

Classic American Renaissance meme, and a softer form of what the blogger The Unapologic Mexican call the "Carom Scarem". "soon no one will listen" means "soon there will be a race war".

"What Bob Johnson was saying is that Mr. Obama was somewhere smoking dope, according to Mr. Obamba's own words, while the Clintons were championing causes that benefited the best interest of Black people."

No, that's not what he was saying, that's what he implied. If that's what he wanted to say, he should have had the courage to say it outright. What he did do is actually sleazier that saying it outright.

in Williams: Middle Class Blacks Are A Different Race on Jack and Jill Politics
:Race is not scientific characteristic. It's a social construct. We are in this group, black, based on criteria that we agree create a common identity (but that doesn't make it so)".

I have never, ever seen anyone who has mede this assertion apply it to whites. They are quick to say "there are actually no black people", but won't ever say "there are actually no white people". This is basically the same kind of distancing Juan Williams is doing, and it's just as cowardly.

in Williams: Middle Class Blacks Are A Different Race on Jack and Jill Politics
Unbelievable. I saw that poll, and was puzzled by that question at first. It soon became clear to me that they were really talking about culture and ethnicity. Why can't Williams see that? If you think in terms or culture and ethnicity, you can argurably say we are no longer one "race" (keeping in mind that "race" is the wrong word to use) when you take into account the number of black people of differing ethnicities who are now established in the U.S.

Actually, on one level, I'm glad he said something like this. It'll hasten the complete loss of his credibility.

in Why is nobody calling the Edwards Campaign on their recent racial ploys? on Jack and Jill Politics
Is that what she's doing? It seems to me that she's referring to her husband's race and gender in terms of attracting fundraising dollars. Whether you agree with her or not, that is what she seems to be saying. I don't think she's going back on what she (and her husband) intimated in the recent past, which is this: no matter what the polls or fundraising totals say at this point, Edwards stands the best chance of any Democratic candidate of being elected in the general election because he's most popular white male. As Gilliard said many times, white folks often say they intend to vote for a black person, then get into the voting booth, and "forget".
