in PowerShell Authenticode Signatures and trust… on Huddled Masses
I like the idea of a community backed CA, but the problem I see with that is it makes the maintainers of the script repository also responsible for verifying that contributors to the repository.
On the flip side, if the goal just verifying the integrity of the script, that can be valuable, and I would fall towards running a community CA, whether self-signed or not (sorry, I've got no connections with any CA's).
Thanks for bringing this up Jaykul!

Douglas,
I disagree with your assertion that "there is so much neater, and more rewarding, work happening outside of the typical IT realms". As an IT specialist for a smaller organization, I have a breadth of responsibilities which allow me to work hands on with a variety of technology.
I believe your comments fit more appropriately to large IT organizations. Smaller shops, like mine and those of many of my associates in similar sized organizations, offer an IT professional a great opportunity for job fulfillment. I get to work with desktop support, networking, security, databases, development, training, audio, video, multiple OS, and more.
From my perspective, the small IT shop can provide great job satisfaction for the IT person who can adapt a variety of technologies to the business processes. I know it gets me to wake up earlier to rush in to work.

Great show. I'm a one man IT department and I also have recently set up Nagios. Since I'm responsible for making sure our internet, WAN, and VPN connections are online 24/7, it will be very useful and possibly make me more efficent in maintaining our availability. It was not very difficult to set up, with the assistance of the Nagios book from No Starch Press and a spare desktop machine running Ubuntu Server 6.06.
Thanks again for the content, congrats to Kevin on becoming a father again, and can't wait to hear the next episode!

In regards to the question about controlling internet access through group policy, an administrator can create a policy to control the content advisor in Internet Explorer. This would allow the administrator to specify approved sites which could be managed centrally. It can be a bit finicky and if you have the infrastructure for a proxy server, that is probably the better route, but the content advisor is better than nothing.

Did you install the SDM on your computer or were you using the SDM Express running on the router? This option shows up on the full SDM.

I use the 851 Cisco SDM with Firefox and HTTPS and have never had a problem. I purchased my router at the end of last year and have been using it successfully. Is there a checkbox that needs to be checked on the popup? On my version, there is a checkbox for HTTPS required which needs to be checked to enable it.

in THE Cleanup, a cool Cisco SOHO router, and Feedback on kevindevin.com
I have one of the wired versions, the 851, and I love it. I set it up and am in the process of configuring a ipsec gre tunnel to work to our pix. You can set it up that only certain machines can access the vpn tunnel, or create a separate wireless network (with a separate router) encrypted, for a machine to access the corporate network.
