in Building A Social Network Contact Management System on Orient Lodge
I had a look at friendbinder.com. It might do part of what you want (alas I don't know the real solution either, and as you can imagine, I have the same need.)

Couldn't we get a number of multinetworknetworkers together and just build what we need?
ahynes1 I took a brief look at FriendBinder.com and wasn't particularly impressed. My sense is that it doesn't come anywhere close to doing the things I am hoping to do.

As to getting a bunch of multinetworknetworkers together and just building it, that is part of what I'm hoping to do by this post and some upcoming posts.

The first part is to get a clearer view of what people's requirements really are. I've got a bunch of ideas about what I'm looking for. I tried to outline some of them in the post above.

I've also started writing some code to gather information from various sites as well as to start about an appropriate data schema. I hope to have details about this up later today.

Well, anonymous previous poster, Thank you for your nice comments.

I am still using the Chrome browser and am very happy with it. It's more stable than IE(anyversion) or Firefox. It's also faster and most sites actually work.

It's unpolished and that's good. Polishing apps makes them unstable, user-unfriendly and bulky. The interface is clean rather than childish.

I guess you posted this comment to get attention, hey, you got it!.

Cheers!

in Tracking Online Identities on Orient Lodge
Social networks take time, I agree, and - as you have noticed - I'm on a lot of them, too. The place where most of these networks meet is - unfortunately - my e-mail inbox. That's where the notifications go. I'm not going to check all those sites to see if there's an update waiting.

I agree with your statements on FOAF. I want to take my friends with me on all networks I visit, I don't want to 're-search' all over again when I join something new. It's generally a bad thing that proprietary APIs are used to interconnect sites when open standards are already available.

Your tip to sign up with DandyID was definitely a good one.

Thanks!

That's very nice. I suppose you could release such a program under an open source license of choice and let us create wordles of our own.... Wordle.net is a very cool site I have been using for quite some time. I haven't however found a quick way to get my twitter-stuff into that one. (http://tweetake might be an option, though...)

in Unsexy blog posts can be valuable too! on Jim's Marketing Blog
If I had to worry about all the numbers and stats all the time, I would not get any post done. I blog because I like to do so and think I have something to say. In fact, There are people out there that like what I do. The stats? Well, let's say I don't financially depend on my blog yet. It's a more relaxed way of doing things.....

that is, if Twitter still exists then. There have been many great ideas that never made it because of the lack of money flowing into, rather than out of the bank accounts of those providing it..... I guess Twitter needs to come up with a way to make some money to make sure it will be here two years from now...

I guess describing Twitter is a problem for lots of people.

I feel a competition coming up: Best description of Twitter in less than 30 words wins a free twitter account.....

At least some (annoying?) twitter users are monetizing twitter for their own sake with a twitter spamming service called magpie. This service twitters - in the name of it's members - advertisements to their followers which I believe is twam. However, I can't opt out without unfollowing those people (which is a bit drastic, because I was following them for other reasons...)

Liam I agree; the magpie twam is very annoying. There are others exploiting twitter for similar purposes. Unless something is put in place to prevent such exploiting; the whole thing will become completely cluttered with ads and will be no fun at all. I remember chat rooms before they became full of bots; now they're not worth going to.

It's an interesting concept, though not one I'll visit many times.

rating a persons twitterability requires more input than a 'latest tweet' and an avatar. Fun for once..... (oh, twice, want to know my rating some time from now...)

hmmm. I guess this baby is not going to follow anyone back. This baby is not going to react to any tweet you or I make. I doubt this baby will respond to DM's or @replies.

Interesting as it may be from a technology point of view, I don't think that this really has anything to do with communication, the basis for twitter in the first place.

However, I feel the need to follow @kickbee and see what will happen 'after birth'....

I guess this is one in the same category as @pothos (twittering plant) and @MarsPhoenix

Cheers

RE Ausetkmt wowww.. now you really have me.
so a baby tweets eachtime it kicks.
that's taking communication to a whole new level.
so why are these parental units making this lil baby a part of an electric field so early in pre birth ?
sounds mean as the Twittering Plant. are you serious about this Plant ?

And the answer is yes, I'm one of those chrome users. I use it for almost all my browsing needs because of the one killing feature, speed. I'ld love some extensions, add-ons, plugins etc, but I would not want to loose the speed. Before Chrome I used K-meleon because of the same reason. Chrome is faster than that....

I have used safari, lynx, Mozilla, netscape, opera, IE (up to 7), konqueror k-meleon and chrome and chrome is the one that wins.

Well, I've been keeping a LifestreamLog at my lifestreamer site build simply with Wordpress and the Lifestream plugin. It's here: Lifestreamer.nl Pretty simple to get that going and full control on my own server.

I'm still thinking to reinstall this on wordpress-MU to allow others to do the same. Would that be interesting? Would people -say- pay a dollar a month for it?

Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins Perhaps so. I like php and asp scripts for this sort of thing better because I enjoy the full degree of control you get with that, but a lot of non-developers would probably better enjoy working in a framework like WordPress that they know better.

Aren't we all humans? Well, we certainly behave like them. I guess that all humans have some unfortunate characteristics ans every now and then they come up to the surface for all others to see. Then we start talking about it, and it seems there's no end to al the chagrin anymore....

Why don't we just look at it this way:
1. all human have their way of doing things regardless of our opinions about it.
2. most humans make the occasional mistake they might even regret afterwards
3. there are a number of mortal sins that somehow most of us commit every now and then (pride?)
4. squabbling is not making this world a better place.
5. so get on with what we do best, creating interesting reads for others and be friends with those worthy. Let's forget the rest.....

Cheers

ahynes1 William,

I believe that one important part of being human is to learn from other people's mistakes. If I felt this was simply a squabble between a couple of people with big egos, I would have ignored it.

Instead, I view this as a case study in failed social marketing with important implications for other people trying to start up a social media site. Ad to this that there is supposedly a large user base of EntreCard and that the head of EntreCard has at times publicly sort additional financing, it seems to be a very important topic to explore.

So, I don't view my post as squabbling. I'm not sure that others do either. Instead, this has been a very active post in terms of comments and visits, so at least many of my readers consider this an interesting read.

Hi,

I actually use a wordpress-MU installation for hosting multiple Curriculum Vitae right here: http://cvvanmij.nl/wkossen.
(actually, only one CV yet, but more to come) It's in dutch, but the translator from google will at least give you some idea about the content even if the translation is dodgy....

You could of course say that I'm using Wordpress as a CMS, but this is rather specific so I just mention it here anyway. Feedback is of course highly appreciated...

Cheers
