When Dave Telep said of Bud Mackey, "He's probably the same level prospect." did he mean that Mackey is the same level prospect as Devin Ebanks? This is what I think he meant, but I am not certain.

I do not understand why anyone would think Kevin Jones will come to Indiana. All of the comments I have read from his brother about IU, while very respectful, are not enthusiastic.

I do not think there is a leader, but I do think the phone call problem will hurt IU's chances.

In my opinion, the phone call problem closed the door for this year's recruiting, but unless the NCAA imposes additional penalties, it should not affect next year's recruiting.

It depends on what you want. If you want to be entertained, then this is a weak schedule. For the purpose of entertaining fans, playing stronger teams is better, better for the fans (but only if you win).

If you are not concerned about entertaining the fans, then it makes more sense to play a weaker schedule. This way you get your players ready for the conference.

John Thompson (the father) was always criticized for his "cupcake" preconference schedule. But my or my, his teams certainly looked good come March.

It's good to be a fan and root for IU. It's certainly acceptable and healthy to comment on team and individual player weaknesses. This is what I think most people on this board do.

But some people, the "We deserve it" crowd, go too far. They seem to identify themselves in an unhealthy way based on how IU is doing. That's why I hope you were joking or exaggerating when you said, "We deserve it." In my opinion, "You deserve better."

I think a fair question might have been, "Any update on the NCAA investigation?" The question that was asked, however, was a "gotcha" question. I can understand why Sampson was annoyed.

I am probably from a different (older) generation than you. The picture was clearly soft pornography to me. Perhaps it is the kind of picture to which you would hope your daughter (if you have one now or ever have a daughter in the future) would aspire? If the young woman in the picture were your daughter, would this be the picture of her you would carry in your wallet to show friends and acquaintences? If she were my daughter, this would not be the picture I would choose. I would want something with a bit more clothes.

I seem to remember a lot of posters commenting on how wonderful a job KS was doing balancing the players' individual skills with team basketball. KS was a genius. One loss later, he is outcoached. Let's be careful as we jump off the bandwagon. We don't want to injur ourselves.

It's fun to discuss who to play and who to sit, but I hope everyone recognizes (at least I do) that KS has forgotten more about basketball than most of us will ever learn. If KS is not playing BM, I have to believe it is because BM is not good enough to play. Indeed, if he is not good enough right now, then playing him now could do damage to his future. Having confidence in your ability is important. Not playing BM now may prove positive next year.

I am an IU fan. At the same time, I think I am a realist. Eric Gordon will be rattled and not have a good game. DJ White will do fine, but no other IU player will step up. Illinois will win by at least 10 points. (I hope I am very wrong.)

I do not think we are better fans. We boo our own players. We chant obscenities during a nationally televised game.

As to booing our own players: This might be acceptable if they were not trying, but I do think they are trying. They are just not as good as we would want them to be.

As to obscene chants: This is mob mentality at its worst.

No offense to you. I am sure you believe that IU fans are better behaved than UI fans. Unfortunately, I think reality reflects badly on all of us -- IU and UI.

You are so absolutely correct that Ratliff needs to stay in school and get his degree. Based on the past four years, I do not see him playing professionally. He needs his degree as a union card for a career.

Also, and this is selfish on my part, if he quits school and does not get his degree, doesn't this affect the number of scholarships IU can give out in the future? Isn't there some formula that is based on players graduating, transferring, quitting and not getting their degree?

I thought writing this blog was your diversion, not your obsession. You take this way too seriously. I am a big IU fan, but IU basketball is not the most important thing in my life. I feel bad that this is happening, but your writing reflects a sense of hysteria. That is really unfortunate. I hope, for your sake, that you were intentionally using hyperbole.
