If all of these real world activities "distract", what is it we should really be doing? ;-)

in Seth Goldstein on Social Advertising: It Ain’t Easy on AllFacebook
I believe the problem is not so much in social advertising as it is in the quality of advertisers available. We all know that your average SocialMedia etc. ad is crap.
Running with VideoEgg who work directly with large name advertisers I am able to get CPM's between 2-3$ and even more when working with other private companies like Appsavvy.
The problem is not so much with social advertising but how easy it is to sign up to these mass advertisers who cannot fill the inventory with enough decent ads.

get yourself over to google reader in mobile safari, then add it to your home screen with the add bookmark icon. You'll soondiscover it doesn't need a dedicated app :-)

in Beware of Evil Facebook Applications! on AllFacebook
Did they mention that when you install any piece of software on your PC it has the potential to track everything you do? Including gaining access to financial information...
No they decided to take an uneducated punt at Facebook because they have nothing better to write about.

in Facebook’s Elitist Chat Launch on AllFacebook
I should think it was only rolled out to a select number of networks to test it's affect on the server load.
Its a feature that is going to be used a hell of a lot as soon as it is released so they need to gauge what sort of resources its going to need.
I guess they figured releasing to the original universities was a nice way of selecting who got first access in this test environment.

I had been running advertising over a couple of months with VideoEgg and received around $2500 over that period.
Although this is a low amount my CPM averaged around $4-5 which is very high for advertising on Facebook. During this period though they did have a shockingly low inventory.
I am looking at using them again currently as I have heard their inventory problems are now solved though.

in Facebook Starts Translating on AllFacebook
Like Dan said, I also saw Javier at the London garage yesterday.
I think they key point to take away was their willingness to share this with third party app developers who unlike Facebook will not neccessarily have the financial backing to have their apps translated.
If the community can do it for them then everyone benefits though.

in Should Facebook Join OpenSocial? on AllFacebook
I think it simply comes down to these facts.
1. End users couldn't give a shit about how the applications make their way onto a social network they just care that they're there.
2. People will not stop writing the apps that people want on Facebook just because OS is available elsewhere. If they do it leaves a massive market open for other developers who will fill the gap!
3. Open Social purely allows other networks to easily build a thriving developer community.
If Facebook feel the desire to have OS apps on their platform in the future they will have the best of both worlds by havingthe much more powerful F8 platform AND support for all apps made on the OS platform.
I would in fact say that Facebook is the real winner in this situation.

in Facebook Launching the Google Adsense Killer on AllFacebook
I fully agree with the fact that they will allow targeting over the Facebook website however gaining access to Facebook cookies (and therefore targeting) on other sites is simply not technically possible.
It would be a security nightmare and as such browsers do not allow it.

in Facebook Newsfeed, Not the Primary Source of App Installs on AllFacebook
You should probably point out that NFO does not come into application installs since news feed items only show to users who have the app installed.
The news feed stats purely refer to the "x has added the y application".

in Facebook Launches Data Storage Service on AllFacebook
From having a quick look at this API it appears to be similar to holding your data in a SQL database however it is held on Facebooks side.
I don't believe they are challenging S3 as I see no mention of file storage.

It should be noted that application developers can still see exactly how many users have the app installed - it's just not publically available information.

in Where is the Customizeable Facebook Homepage? on AllFacebook
I would disagree with the comment about it being easier and faster to only offer PHP support.
If they were to only offer PHP support it would be a case of restricting the kind of files you could serve on your profile page or they would have to run a multi-user PHP hosting platform!
Offering the ability to use any language in my opinion was the best option for them. It wasn't a choice based upon giving people customization options.

in Facebook Adds Javascript To the Platform on AllFacebook
It's probably worth mentioning that FBJS is currently in beta, hence the lack of a large announcement.
I'm sure there will be an official announcement after its been tested.

in The rise of the Facebook blogs on Scobleizer
Hey Scobleizer!
Thought I'd let you know about my Facebook blog.
http://www.facewatch.net
I have released it as what I guess would be best termed as alpha. The site is still in development but the core features are there allowing me to blog while I build the rest of the site.
I'm builing an application directory as well which I am linking with the blog and hope to expand with features outside of just the blog scope in the future.
Come check it out :-)
