You might want to check out Jeff Han's work. He spun off one of his research on multi-touch displays to a company, Perceptive Pixel. I think they got a contract with the military.

Just like what the nashman said, it overheats. A workaround that Apple did was to reduce the clock speed of 1 core. If that doesn't work, it is shut down completely. I think this product is a flop.

Try the phonepad. The buttons are large enough for the fingers. It's easier but still different with a real t9 keypad.

Not quite. You'll mostly be paying for the multi-touch interface. It lesser useful features compared to most smart phones. Looking cool has a tag price too.
