I agree with Bill. Blip.tv is pretty good for hosting videos. And for converting, there's a free version of Visual Hub called iSquint. Maybe it'll work for you!

I completely agree. This was all about collabolration and community. Smash boom, like Kat said. 2 hours and the site was up, and I couldn't be more excited to have been a part of it.

The 50 1.8 will work on your D40, but only in manual focus. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think it's something like that lens doesn't include AF motors and instead relies on the motors in the camera. The D40 lacks these motors.

Like I told you on Twitter, there's a sigma 30 1.4 that will work, but it costs about 4 times.

The equivalent to Blogger would Wordpress.com, which is more limited than Blogger when it comes to themes. Yes, Wordpress.com has a bunch to pick from, but it's only those, or you could pay a bit to edit only the CSS.

Blogger, on the other hand, allows you to edit the whole code of a theme. You could write a custom theme if you wanted to (and I think there are a bunch out there).

Typepad.com, as a comparison, only offers CSS editing unless you pay for the most expensive account.

So from a web designer point of view, Blogger isn't that bad of a choice for a free blogging system. I'd go with a self hosted Wordpress blog though.

And I was worried that buying a macbook and having two laptops roughly the same size would be too much...

I would love an N95 or something along those lines, but costing almost as much as a new laptop here, it's a no-no. I'm keeping my current ghetto phone until it dies (or until I accidentally take it for a swim...).

Try iSquint (http://www.isquint.org). It's faster than iTunes/QuickTime and it gives you more options.

You know what I was thinking today? We're using Twitter as a virtual office space. A lot of us work from home. Before twitter we would be somewhat isolated, but now we have a way to hang out around the virtual coffee machine in the morning and talk about whatever we please. I'm 5000 miles away from you but I can reach you just like if you were in the next office.

It relates to what you're saying in your post. No matter where you work (what company or what physical place), we can all get together as equals, 140 characters at a time.
