I was sort of hoping to find something to explain "the more machine than man" thing. LSH will do though...

in Social media helps satisfy the esteem need of the Maslow hierarchy of human needs | Broadcasting Brain on Broadcasting Brain
I think you're onto something here. When people begin doing things online (blog, twitter, etc) they're often self-conscious to the extreme. They take on hidden identities, hide behind avatars (though I still love my King Moonracer). In any case, as they begin to relax and become more of who they really are, they step up the ladder.
I'll put it another way. When I had 50 followers on Twitter, I used to worry about what I said. Now I have 800 and I just try to have fun.

That's funny, in a way, because having larger audiences can make people more nervous. I know that I'm sometimes more self-conscious when I see my subscriber/follower numbers grow.

in Nominate Your Favorite Writing Blog for 3rd Annual Top 10 Blogs for Writers Contest on Writing White Papers
Even though I wrote the Ode to Good King James Chartrand (Men with Pens), I gotta say that Write to Done has me constantly wondering why _I_ didn't write that post. To me, that's a sign of a great blog no matter what the topic.

in How Mass Email Works on Chris Brogan
While I certainly didn't see the email as spam, it read a bit odd to me...
1. I've already received several newsletters. It seemed a little late to be confirming my subscription.
2. If you switched the line about the reason for the email with the punchy bit about the name I would have quickly realized what the email was about. In fact, after I closed the email, I was still wondering when that next newsletter was coming. I totally missed the message. (which could just be another confirmation that I'm an idiot)
3. The postscript for Blue Sky was a bit redundant since there is a banner at the bottom of the email.
Anyway, I'm just glad to know that another newsletter is on the way. I wonder if this reminder will boost your open rate. :)

in Make Your LinkedIn Profile Work for You on Chris Brogan
In addition to writing clearly about your interests, those looking to stand out in particular fields should think carefully about keywords. I ran a few experiments with keywords on my profile and adding the right mix really boosted the results.
Of course, you can actually draw too much attention to yourself.
I ended up getting a ton of calls for jobs I wasn't interested in, so I spent some serious time reflecting on what I wanted from LinkedIn. I now have a profile that some consider a little frivolous (see my name link above). Yet it's an accurate reflection of who I am and let's people know what I'm all about right from the start.

We just picked up Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 (kid1 was a Christmas present). Oh, I am the hero today!!!!
Actually, I love this little saga. I read it online and my older boy (age 9) thinks I'm cool - or so he says. :)

in Time For Some Meat: Adobe CS3, Apollo, Silverlight on Webomatica
I downloaded the alpha SDK for apollo. Nifty app, works like a charm. I had a number of swfs packaged as mini-apps in no time flat. This will be a boon for content developers who want to put their apps on the desktop.
