The New Yorker cover is just the beginning of what should be an extremely ugly Presidential campaign.

It never occurred to me until now that Halle has kept her baby away from the photogs. Props to her for not parading her kid in front of the cameras and selling the pics to the highest bidder.

Johnny Gill is definitely a bad dude. My favorite song by him is "The Floor". I was disappointed when it wasn't one of his solo tunes included on the New Edition Gold 2-CD set.

The Internet and channels like E! have caused the whole celebrity worship thing to get totally out of hand. The way some fans and the media act, you would think that celebrities are the only ones to have kids. If the celeb gives birth to twins... stop the presses!

Losing Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes on consecutive days has been rough. To me it's been even rougher because of the untimeliness of their deaths. The same goes for Carlin and Russert.

Given Tyra's photo spread and First Lady aspirations, I'd watch my back if I were Michelle.

I don't live all that far from Detroit so I am well acquainted with the Kwame Kilpatrick fiasco. People in the area for the most part are done with this guy and feel that he should step down. The Kwame saga has become one embarrassing incident after another.

You picked Bon Jovi over other rock acts featured in OSF like Zep and Living Colour?! I forgive you. :-)

I like your description of the song "Inside My Love". I didn't remember that song when it was out. However, I downloaded it out of curiousity a few years ago. It's yet another forgotten tune that deserves more airplay.

Excellent song choice and clip find! "You Haven't Done Nothin" is unfortunately one of those songs that will remain timeless because there will always be a politician who doesn't have our best interests at heart.

It was cool to see Gladys and the Pips, Marvin Hamlisch, and Phoebe Snow getting down in the audience. Even though it was probably rehearsed, I am still impressed with Andy Williams' ability to "hit the post" (radio jargon for talking over the intro of a song and finishing right before the vocals start).

One of the best parts of adding 90s music to my radio show is that I get the chance to play artists like Maxwell! Did you hear that Maxwell is scheduled to release a trilogy of albums (Black Summers' Night) over the next 3 years? Black should be coming out sometime this year, with Summers' due in 2009, and Night set to drop in 2010. You can hear a snippet of a track from the album "Black" (Pretty Wings) on his MySpace page:

I came this close to choosing a Tony! Toni! Tone! song. Your song choice is a good one! The album it came from (The Revival) had some jams on it. I wish I had made the effort to check Tony! Toni! Tone! and the other acts out on the New Jack Reunion Tour.

1. I couldn't agree with you more. I just read a story where a white supremacist group distributed anti-Obama flyers in NJ. Although most of the racist incidents won't be this blatant, it'll still be a lot of ugliness bubbling to the top.

10. Even though I knew Paul Newman was gravely ill, the news of his death still shook me a bit. I did a post about him as well. By the way, Liz Taylor was arguably at her hottest in "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof".

9. I caught most of the debate last night. Afterwards, I was watching ABC, CNN, and the Fox News Channel to see what their analysts had to say. Of course, FNC ran with the fact that Obama said he agreed with McCain on several occasions. I wished that he didn't say it as much. Still, I don't think there was a clear cut winner.

8. This is an SNL skit just waiting to be made. Katie Couric had a "lady you don't know what the hell you're talking about" look on her face as Palin stumbled through her answer.

7. Great photo! Of course the conservative bloggers who say the Obama marriage is in trouble would disagree.

6. Hopefully there will be some You Tube clips of Chris Rock's HBO special. I was lucky enough to see him live a few years ago. My stomach muscles got a good workout that night.

5. Props to you for doing what was needed for the cause even though it's not your thing.

4. Every list that VH-1 comes out with is jacked up. You can look at their lists of the 100 Greatest Child Stars or 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders and quickly figure out that they don't have a clue.

I'm so glad you chose the Elton John/Mary J. Blige version of "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues". I have that album (One Night Only), but haven't listened to it in awhile. When I saw that it was one of your selections, I took my CD with me so that I can listen to it at work.

I can see that you and I could have a really cool movie marathon. Whenever I think of "American History X", I think of the scene with Edward Norton, the black guy, and the curb... shudder!

For the Postman Always Rings Twice, is that the orig. with John Garfield and Lana Turner or the remake with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange? I've seen the excellent original version, but not the remake.

Three excellent choices. My favorite part of "Just My Imagination" is when the music builds and then Paul Williams sings the line, "Every night on my knees I pray".

"Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology") was a staple in my house back in the day. The entire "What's Going On" album is one that is solid from beginning to end.

It's hard to top Gladys Knight when it comes to conveying heartbreak in a song. My favorite line in "If I Were Your Woman" is, "You're like a diamond
and she treats you like glass".
