in Media Consumption: Scoble vs Rubel on New Comm Biz
Interesting!

I think I fall somewhere down the middle ... not so highly organized in my consumption as Steve Rubel, but nowhere near the firehouse to my mouth as Scoble.

(Perhaps that's why I don't need to be quite as organized as Rubel!)

in Networking and numbers on Jim's Marketing Blog
Ummm ... am I the only one who get the irony here?

It's all about the quality of the relationships, but you have 18,000 followers?

How 'quality' can those relationships possibly be? Have you personally corresponded with each of them?

There's nothing wrong with that many followers. And it can be a 'relationship' of mutual interest. But it is not a high quality personal relationship.

in Jive finishes up my enterprise disruption week on Scobleizer
Another company that does very interesting and similar things (customer collaboration in product development and marketing, as well as internal "web2.0" social networks) is ThinkPassenger.

I interviewed with them about 6 months ago and they are doing some very interesting things with Fortune 500 companies, including Apple.

(Of course, the Apple stuff is all internal.)

in Social Media is No Place for Robot Behavior on Chris Brogan
Coincidence, coincidence ....

Could it be that posting every 2 minutes on Twitter is a symptom of "robotic" posting behaviour? I tend to think so.

I was thinking about that this morning:

in Blogging, changing every day on Scobleizer
Robert,

>Most of my blogger friends think I’m nuts focusing so much
>effort over on FriendFeed.

They're right. You're a digital sharecropper (a la Nick Carr) building a business for someone else while your own is suffering. The reality is that if you played your cards right you'd be making multiple thousands per month off your own blog ... and wouldn't have to whine about not being able to afford the new Canon.

:-)

Seriously, I think you can do that without losing credibility. Long-term, it makes much more sense for you.

Wow. The cluetrain has so come and gone ... and yet so many have not even taken a look out the window.

in Rogers is experiencing iPhone activation problems on iPhone World
I was in a Rogers store this morning and waited hours and hours for their servers to perk up ... I finally got out without finishing, but with an iPhone that I could finish setting up in iTunes.

Annoying, but at least I now have a 3G iPhone.

Interestingly, the store I was at had only 3 16GB iPhones. I was third in line and got one ...

Scoble,

> I know you’re getting sick of hearing
> me talk about Facebook but it is now
> the MUST HAVE portal for my digital life

I love this ... knowing that you have the attention span of a fruit fly, I wonder what your MUST HAVE social networking portal will be in a year or so.

I'm sure it'll be something different, and I'm sure it'll be something interesting, and I'm sure we'll be hearing all about it on your blog.

in Buzzwire: audio and video for your cell phone on Scobleizer
Why would I want to "bring audio, video reports along with Internet radio stations" to my cell phone?

I hate my cell phone. All it's somewhat acceptable for is taking and making calls.

Of course, it's not an iPhone, but if I had an iPhone (not available in Canada yet, btw) then why would I need this service? I'd just go the the web and get what I want.

All these companies providing custom portals into web content are behind the curve.

in Jakob Nielsen says “don’t be like Scoble” on Scobleizer
Scoble,

Personalities, history, and foibles aside, there are many roads that lead to Rome, and Neilsen has picked out one that works for him.

He's specifically targeting that method to less than 1% of the population, and specifically targeting that method to in-depth, complex, multi-faceted business challenges.

As such, that makes perfect sense.

Your blog, on the other hand, is short bits that invariably link elsewhere, keeping reading on top of developing news, conversations, trends, etc. Totally different purpose, totally different form, totally different style.

He is Encyclopedia Britannica; you are watercooler. Both are good, both are needed, both are valuable.

They're just different.

(And btw, yes, his design sucks, and yes, he needs to update it.)

in Interview about Google Gears on Scobleizer
This is very, very timely. Gears is a big, big deal, as it also really reduces the complexities of writing apps for desktop ... and gives you global sync for free!

Sorta like Mozilla XUL but understandable and connected.

John C. Welch: that's a meaningless comment.

Outside of their constituency, no-one has any influence. But Scoble obviously has more influence (just on the blog, never mind FC) than just about any corner preacher ... at least in terms of immediately visible impact and numbers of readers/hearers.

Sure, Robert's constituency is narrow when compared to the whole world. So's just about anyone's. How wide is yours?

Douglas, that rocks. Thanks so much for making such a great plugin that I've already found useful on a site I did for a non-profit and I think I'll find useful again on a site I'm doing for my artist brother-in-law.

in Cisco smacks back at Apple on its blog on Scobleizer
If you read Cisco's blog posting, it's clear that this was not a licensing issue or a money issue. Rather, Cisco wanted to partner with Apple.

Well ... that's a much different animal, and something that Apple does not do easily or often.

My take:
Why Apple left Cisco at the alter

in Achievements are how Microsoft is gonna edge in on Google on Scobleizer
You "earned an achievement?" Do you know how unbelievably asinine that sounds?

I love geek gadgets far more than most, but please, can we have grown men act like it. My kids earn neopoints on neopets.com, and they're really happy that they've got 90+ thousand of them. I never would have thought that adults would get sucked into the same marketing/ego/nonsense vortex.

I hate this "adultescent" stuff.

in Why Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft are NOT Competing on Get A New Browser
This:

"Microsoft’s future is providing the platform for the distribution and dissemination of information."

... is an interesting quote when you consider Apple's successes in exactly that sphere and Microsoft's notable misses. Just add "creation" to the distribution and dissemination and it'll be close to right.
