But,there is a great deal of work to be done. Obama needs to get his message out and stay on the offensive. A good target for his message are the young of the religious right because they are starting to question the motives and outcomes of the policies of the last eight years. They too are seeing that opportunities are starting to dry up with bank failures, lay offs, factory closings and jobs going overseas. They are not as set in their beliefs as their parents. You will note that this is the first time in a couple of decades that the 18 to 20 somethings have been involved in politics.
Another very important issue is to make sure that people get to vote and that their votes count. We saw the dirty tricks of the last two elections i.e. closing the polls even though there was a line of people waiting to vote and of course the phoney phone campaign telling voters to vote on the wrong day. Then there's the voter registration issue. That information needs to get out or we'll have more of the same. If you think Rove has slithered away after he left the White House think again. He's in the background.

Re: African American Political Pundit:: Jesus was a community organizer - Palin done pissed off a whole lot of community organizers

Lincoln - I'd agree with some of your points but it's gotten to the point where there are limited opportunitys for everybody. Notice the jobs figures today?
Powell although educated became Bush's fall guy as I recall. Once you disagree with the Shrub your career is over. Rice who's supposed to be a Russian expert sure did wonders in Georgia didn't she.
What did Obama do about N.O.? He set up a fund for donations to provide help there when the needs were defined while the republicans were twiddling their thumbs deciding whether to cancel the convention because everybody remembers what happened last time when 1500 people were killed
.
Now for the kicker and I hope this doesn't offend anybody here or maybe it should. A little comment Palin made up in Alaska when Obama won the primary:

"So Sambo beat the bitch"
This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama's win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and asked that her last name not be used, Gov Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat's primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that the people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively.

Hat tip to reconstitution 2.0 for this bit of info.

As for McCains specifics they are just more of the same Bush policies or things Bush didn't get around to doing.
I like one analogy I just heard. If your trying fixing your car using a wrench and that wrench is the wrong one are you going to continue to use the same wrench?

It would be fine for everybody to pull themselves up by their boot straps except this administration has stolen the boots and your socks are next.

Re: African American Political Pundit:: Black Bloggers Say, I am a community Organizer "A day of blogging"

This is a great opportunity to get organized as never before. The greatest issue that is weighing on my mind right now is the honesty of the voting process. This would be a good time to go out into the community and register voters. Remember cut off for registration is the first week in October for most states. While your at it it is extremely important to explain the process and what to do about 'faulty' voting machines and the fact that most states offer a provisional ballot (paper ballot) if you don't feel confident with the electronic machines or feel they're rigged. The first and only time I used one the machine crashed. Since then I use a paper ballot.

Re: African American Political Pundit:: 2008 Election, Black on Black Crime, Recession, and Poverty

AAPP - The $41,000 income would have been a great income 25+ years ago, but with inflation running 2 to 3% per year, medical costs jumped just in the last few years and all the cut backs in programs ( slashed federal and state funds for the community action programs basically eliminated them ). This isn't just about families with female heads of housholds any longer. Then you must remember that the jobs that paid a good wage went over seas. The steel mills that paid a great wage with few skills are silent now. Detroit that at one time produced 25% of GDP is on life support. Those jobs required little education yet gave a family wage. I think that is why Obama is pushing for renewable energy technology. It will require labor and education at all levels. You have to assume that the bulk of the workforce is not going to have a college degree.

Re: The Democratic National Convention is over

It was a great speech. He touched on every issue I've posted on my blog for some time now. There is a great deal of work ahead to undo 8 years of failed policies. I don't expect the situation to change overnight. Not only does Barack have a lot of work to do but we as a nation have a lot of work because we are the ones who will make it happen.

Demeur

Re: Uppity Obamas

Oh this is nothing, here's what Palin said of Obama when he beat Hillary in the primary:

"So Sambo beat the bitch!”
This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.
According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. A big point goes to Obama when McCain said he'd cut spending on all but the military. Well then why was McCain for the largest bailout (robbery) in U.S. history? And why did McCain say that the economy was sound just a week earlier? Nope I think McCain lost bigtime on those two points. And after watching the Palin/Biden debate an audience of undecideds on CNN were all planning to vote for Obama.
This tells me that both Palin and McCain are way out of touch with what's going on in this country. They're stuck with parroting talking points and ignoring the facts.

Re: Voting machines switching votes in W. Ask for a paper ballot! It is your right. And if you suspect tampering ask for a hand recount. It looks like they are trying to steal another election. We better not let them get away with it again. Please pass this on.

Re: President Obama

The thing that shocked me was how fast it all happened. I guess you can get away with insulting everybody but god forbid you might unintentionally insult one group.

Re: Why I’ve been silent

Call me out of the loop but I don't know exactly what your business is. I've heard you talk about going out and taking photos but I wouldn't have a clue as to what it's about. How about a link here to your business website and having some of your blogging friends spread the word? As for payment I thinks it's time to take some money up front in the form of a deposit before work starts. At least youd have some of your time covered and most people who put a deposit don't want to lose it.
Lastly I'd be sitting down with paper and pen and figuring out how to broaden things without much effect to the home life.

And as Red Green would say "I'm pullin for you, remember we're all in this together."
