in Spooky Songs: The Beatles, “Long, Long, Long” on Popdose
Easily the most underrated song on the White Album, perhaps in the entire Beatles catalog.

I found it interesting how you criticize Palin for "being a typical Republican politician, the type that routinely resorts to abject mockery and bullying of opponents in a way that is truly tasteless and hateful." Of course, this is right after you say that Mitt Romney "wears magic underwear" and should go get himself "a couple extra wives." And those comments weren't tastless or hateful?

Gotta love the singing Abraham Lincoln in the "We Built This City" video. He was more lifelike than Grace Slick at that point in her career.

in Hooks ‘N’ You: Nick Heyward, “Tangled” on Popdose
I was a big fan of Haircut 100 back in the day but had lost track of Nick Heyward over the years. One day in the mid-1990s I spotted Tangled in the import section at the Virgin Megastore and decided to buy it on an impulse. Let's just say I was more than pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, this is one of the best albums of the 1990s -- Britpop at its finest. Every song on the album is solid. I bought The Apple Bed and liked it too, but it didn't impress me as much as Tangled did. If you haven't heard this CD, give it a listen; you'll be impressed too.

in Why You Should Like … Thomas Dolby on Popdose
Dolby was truly ahead of his time. I remember in 1984 right after "Science" became a huge hit, he was on the TV show Solid Gold. I think everyone was expecting to hear "Science" but instead he unveiled "I Scare Myself." The look on Dionne Warwick's face was priceless, and the rest of the crowd apparently agreed. That was the beginning of his decline in the U.S., but I still bought his albums and remained a loyal fan.

in CHART ATTACK!: 2/7/87 on Popdose
Are you sure that's not Eli Manning in the Glass Tiger video? I swear the lead singer looks just like him. Or maybe the 18 hours of Super Bowl coverage last week is still affecting my brain.

in The Popdose Guide to The Call on Popdose
Apparently I'm in the minority here, because I purchased both Reconciled and Into The Woods when they were first released in 1986 and 1987, respectively. I stumbled across the band on MTV, where I saw the videos for both "I Still Believe" and "Everywhere I Go." They are still two of my favorite songs from the 1980s. I never made it to Let The Day Begin ... must be MCA's fault.

bama Philomath--I'm curious about whether you are from Philomath, GA, or are a big REM fan (can't get there from here).... I don't come across people knowing that town very often....

Thank you for acknowledging Mark Brzezicki. If you like his work with Big Country, check out his work on The Cult's "Love" album. Very, very good stuff!

in Why You Should Like…Frankie Goes to Hollywood on Popdose
My feeling was always that Welcome To The Pleasuredome was overrated and Liverpool was underrated.

One of the most bizarre tracks I've ever heard is "Don't Lose What's Left Of Your Little Mind," which was a B-side to the Rage Hard single, along with a cover of David Bowie's "Suffragette City." Wild, wacky stuff...

in Cutouts Gone Wild!: Howard Jones, “In the Running” on Popdose
I have to confess that I was among those who thought HoJo was an unparalleled musical genius back in the mid-1980s. I saw the video to "New Song" on MTV back in 1984 at the tender age of 13 and ran out to buy the single. I loved Human's Lib and Dream Into Action but thought Howard started to decline with One To One. By the time In The Running was released, I had lost interest.

I will say that for being essentially a one-man band, Howard put on a pretty good live show. I saw him live in Park City, UT back in 1987 with Frozen Ghost as the opening act. There's nothing better than a HoJo/FroGho combo! How about featuring that band on Cutouts Gone Wild?
