"One cannot read Bonhoeffer, Weil, R. Niehbuhr, and even Barth without reference to the political sphere."
Which of course is why I don't read Bonhoeffer, Weil, Niehbuhr, and even Barth. Or Jim West's political posts. ;-)

Looks like a lot of fun there. I'm interested in seeing what you have to say about the first on your list.

in Mogwai & the Best Sequence from 28 Days Later on Notes From Off Center
I have yet to see 28 Days Later although I saw 28 Weeks Later. Is this music actually in the film or was it set to the scene by the YouTuber? And if this music was actually in the film, do you know if this is the same band who did the music that plays in the background of so much of the sequel?

in Top 11 Rock Drummers on Notes From Off Center
Good call on Danny Seraphine. Chicago is one of my favorite bands. I'd add Sheila E. to the mix, even if she isn't a "rock" drummer per se (although, Run DMC did call themselves the "kings of rock" in the time period when she was coming into her own. I don't think the lines were as clearly drawn back then).

Ya know, for some reason I didn't think this post would get much comment. It seems that my suspicions have been confirmed.

I think we have similar taste in movies. And No Country for Old Men was good, but the end left unsatisfied. To your list I think I'd have to add:
▪ Primal Fear (Edward Norton; Richard Gere)
▪ Seven (Morgan Freeman; Brad Pitt)
▪ Frailty (Matthew McConaughy; Bill Paxton)
▪ Kids (Leo Fitzpatrick; Roasrio Dawson)
▪ The Sixth Sense (Bruce Willis; Haley Joel Osment)
▪ Freeway (Reece Witherspoon; Keifer Sutherland)
▪ The Doom Generation (Rose McGowan)
▪ Identity (John Cusak; Ray Liota)
▪ 8MM (Nicholas Cage; Joquin Phoenix)
▪ The Butterfly Effect (Ashton Kutcher; Amy Smart)

in Dumbest Man Alive? on Notes From Off CenterIt is amazing that there are so many uninformed, ignorant people out there. This is why Barack Obama is still not able to close the nomination because there is, scarily enough, a huge number of people in this country who don’t really want or care for change. It is so easy to believe he’s a Muslim (and hate him for that and hence reject his candidacy) than to learn more about what he stands for and if he has what it takes to be the leader of the free world.
Julie,
And on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are those folks who are ignorant enough to vote for Obama just because he's black, regardless of his qualifications or politics. I was watching the evening news last night and I'd estimate about 85%-90% of the black voters interviewed said that they were voting for Obama because they liked the idea of a black man running the country.

I need no ploys to boost my Technorati ratings. The same folk link to me consistently, so it stays the same.
Concerning the books, after all of this abuse, both you and Jim owe me at least three a piece. And nothing on Zwingli or Evolution, please!
Oh, yeah... Happy frekin' Earth Day to you as well!

in Do We Blog For Fame? on Notes From Off Center
Drew,
I think that if people only kept tabs on 1 or 2 blogs then long posts wouldn't be so much of a problem, but as it stands, most folks have somewhere between 30-100 blogs in their feed readers. Those long posts have to be exceptionally captivating in order to keep someone's attention while they still have another couple of dozen blogs to skim through.

in Do We Blog For Fame? on Notes From Off Center
I started out in AOL chat rooms debating various cult members about various doctrines, etc. That led me to forming a home page where I would write articles on various apologetic topics. But there was little interaction in that, and the chat room interaction was always the same thing with the same people, and truth be told, I was quite bored with it. So I started blogging to attract a different type of interaction. As time went on I expanded from apologetic topics to other stuff, and now, to be quite honest, I blog for the free books! ;)
Oh, and I quite agree with the "infamous" Jim West above, if I'm in the mood to read something that's long, I'll pick up a book. I value blogs for their succinctness.

in Best Action Flick Marathon Ever on Notes From Off Center
Drew,
A couple of things in response.
(1) I did not show a lack of imagination; only appreciation for great movie franchises. ;)
(2) You said: "I could watch the entire Die Hard series back-to-back with no problem. Best action movie franchise ever. Hands down."
Well hallelujah! At least you got one thing right! ;)
(2) When you listed Collateral (Tom Cruise), I thought you meant Collateral Damage (Arnold Schwarzenegger). I almost cursed out loud! :-P
(3) Braveheart is the greatest movie ever and in a class all its own. I don't know that it fits a category like "action flick." Perhaps "awesome flick" is more appropriate.
(4) Good call with Batman Begins, I forgot to include that on my list (to which I would add the original Batman and Batman Returns).
(5) Some sci-fi flicks cross over into the action genre, so The Matrix and Alien counts (so would Predator which is also an awesome movie!).
I could say much more but I will cut it off at the number of grace. :)

Drew,
I used to think so much more highly of you... :(
The Last Dragon made your worst action flick marathon list??? How??? Why???
Let's forget for a moment that I actually enjoyed 300 and No Holds Barred, I just can't fathom how such a classic cinematic masterpiece such as Gordy Berry's The Last Dragon could ever be placed on such a dispicable list. Daddy Green's Pizza; Sho-Nuff; Jive talking fortune cookie makers; Breakin' 2: Electric Boogalooesque escapes from rope restraints; Vanity as Laura Charles... What's not to like?!!
I shall pray for your poor, obviously lost, and now in my sight, apostate, soul. :(

in Why Westminster?: Contra Semper Reformanda on Notes From Off Center
Well said, Drew, well said. It seems mere lip service to say that the confessions are subordinate to Scripture when any interpretation of Scripture is automatically deemed heterodox for not comporting with the confessions, no matter how well supported the interpretation is.
