in Grading a Player’s Real Value on The Launching Pad
JB, I would've been shocked if they held onto Tex and tried to sign him in free agency. The Braves just aren't the kind of team to drop $125 million on a player, and that's not a bad thing. I think if Wren thought that Tex was the missing piece that they needed to win a championship he would've gone for it. But that's not the case. Kotchman's a nice player too. I read that the Angels really didn't want to part with him, and they know how to evaluate talent as well or better than any team.

in Braves Say Goodbye to Shea on The Launching Pad
JB, another excellent post. I have to second Andrew's comment that the Sept. 21, 2001 game will always stand out in my mind above all others. Obviously, not because of baseball but the spirit of the moment. I vividly remember feeling sorrow and inspiration simultaneously as the police and firefighters took the field prior to the game, and then the Mets and Braves all shook hands on the field before the game started. It was a really intense night.
From a pure baseball perspective, I'd have to go with Robin Ventura's "grand slam single". That was a moment that had me jumping off the couch so high I almost hit my head on the ceiling. What a game! And I still bear some contempt for Rocker...

in 10 Teams Actually Worse Than the 2008 Atlanta Braves on The Launching Pad
JB, I'm a Mets fan and even I wouldn't put the 2008 Bravos (as Keith Hernandez calls them) up against the dregs of baseball history. They don't have a whole lot going for them right now, that's for sure. But the 2008 Nationals are an embarrassment to Major League Baseball. Clearly, the "parity" that I hear so much about in baseball hasn't made its way to Washington.
Are we ready to put Frank Wren on the hot seat yet?

in Where Did It All Go Wrong? on The Launching Pad
Nicely done JB. The good news is that Tom Glavine isn't "devastated" by the Braves having a wasted season.
