Bon voyage! You won't be far from me at all...maybe even bump in to you if you find your way to an In-n-Out!

John! The weather is warm (though this weekend we may get rain). You will have fun. You have to! Hehe.

Well...do a search for the key words Oprah, Dave and Superbowl. You'll find it. Err...them.

Really?! I've not had any that I liked so far. Maybe I never made it correctly.

Glad they gave you something other than Vicodin. "For pain" I was told. Well, I took it when I hurt but found out since that you have to take Vicodin right away, before the pain starts or it won't work anywhere near as well as you want.

I had lots and lots of Fudgecicles. And rice pudding.

If you have time, you might want to look into a coastal cruise of Balboa. They usually point out the house he and his wife Pilar used to live in.

Big restaurant meal = dinner for a few days (depending on the restaurant). Why not take it home?

in In-N-Out on Lake Neuron
I have successfully avoided In-n-Out for some time now. If you mention this to your sister, she will agree this is quite astonishing. I have to admit I'm not crazy about their fries. But everything else? Gimme! Gimme my shake Neapolitan-style. Yep, secret menu item.

You had to bring them up, didn't you?

I have a friend whose blog is on MySpace (she has a teenager, so that's how she was introduced to it). Since hers is set to private, the only way for me to view it is to set up my own so I can see hers. And then there's the ever popular reason "Just Because" closely followed by "Everyone Else Is Doing It" and a little further behind is "I Don't Want to be Left Out."

Don't forget, Dick Van Dyke was in Curious George. Sure, it was just voice talent, but hey, it was talent none-the-less.

Heehee. I'm not a country music fan. Too much twang and too much whining ;)

in Giving and withholding on Lake Neuron
Someone I knew once told of how he handled these situations. He'd chat with the person. If they needed something, he felt led to give it if he were able. He felt it wasn't his to question the person's motives, but in giving to model Christ. He's led a few to Him and planted seeds along the way, too. Yep, I get uncomfortable thinking about it.

Interesting! Ikea (Swedish, I know), makes people bag their own merchandize in all of their stores. Californians have adapted easily and Filipinos I know adapted as well (though I know some who have complained at the audacity ;)

Having a MIL who works for a non-profit has helped me learn a lot about the whole non-profit "business." Critics of Gates and his ilk probably don't realize the amount of work that goes into donating money. They work hard to research the causes they give to.

OT: I just re-read the Door article about the Rev of The Brick Testament. I noticed you wrote it! That was a great interview.

I'm sure you'll do fine! Usually, the only one who notices any mistakes is the person doing the playing :)

in ¿Habla usted Español? on Lake Neuron
If you speak a second language, teach it to your children. Even if they don't retain it, they will find it a lot easier to learn a second language as an adult. Plus if not too many others know what you are saying, it's like you guys have a fun secret code.

There is a caveat to this, though. I tried this with my oldest. Come to find out that he has a speech issue that is exacerbated by teaching another language. I am now having to force myself to teach our second child without causing the eldest to feel left out and it's not easy.

I'm not sure I completely agree with the Ugly American idea. Most of the folks I know who travelled did take the time to learn the language. The difficulty they met was when they mispronounced some words and were told not to bother, please just speak English.

Like our pastor says often, it's not ability but availability that God is after. May He bless your trip this summer with many experiences to use in your novel. Another NaNoWriMo? May your socks be blessed off :)
