Webb, you said:
"If we're not all alike, then why did we vote overwhelmingly for Barack Obama?"
You are talking about those who went to the polls. Has anyone looked at the percentage of black voters registered vs. those who turned out to vote?
It is not as simple as one would make it out to seem.

I've been there before too. It is horrible. The sad part is that the cable networks invite that chic from over there on their networks all of the time.

And people are right to note that his statement is nearly identical to that of Geraldine Ferraro's. He said that the only thing that separates him is his skin color and implied that he's gotten thus far through white guilt. Ain't that something? Arguably the two most bigoted comments and they both came from "progressive" leaders (Nader and Ferraro).
Yea, basically.
"Nader may also be trying to appeal to those voters who had a problem with Barack's Father's Day speech."
Nope.
"If Nader type can insinuate that Barack is "selling out" to help fan the flames of some opinions among Black people that, in fact, Barack is, well, then...."
Not really because I wasn't happy with that move by Barack but I don't side with Nader on this. He probably wanted to say this for a while. I think that I know what he trying to get at then I do not. The wording was poor and the comment offensive overall.
It is one thing to say that Obama has't address certain issues (some should got research before they make such comments) but its another so mention his race in that fashion and this idea of "talking white". I guess that everyone's true colors are showing.

Craig-
I hear what Ralph Nader was trying to say but it was offensive and inaccurate. I do not agree because there are many things that Obama has not gone into in depth but has touched on from time to time. More recently, he has been dealing with the more general issues like the war, energy and the economy. I remember that he addressed many things last year that people probably do not know about. We all know however that there are things that Obama can and cannot talk about because of the way this country is. I wish that Obama would not deny certain things when they are brought up because I feel that his denial can be a liability but as I said, I have no problem with him not dicussing certain things and omitting certain things. as long as there is no distortion of the truth.
Nevertheless the "talking white" thing doesn't sit well with me. Can white people stop saying that!

I was there lol...I'm headin back to New York today. I hate BET but I had to go to the show.
That performance was the best part. I loved it.
Anyways, let me change the topic before I get slapped around for being at a BET event lol.

Ok, let me get this straight, if someone disagrees with Obama and brings up the legitimate feelings of others, they are not voting for him. Okay...I guess that could work if you are simple-minded. I have no problem expecting certain things from those that I support. If I support you I will make semands. Obama could careless about me, I am one person, I could say whatever I want to say. Hello?
Why take it so seriously? Why can't you discuss what i was initially discussing rather than attacking the fact that I brought up something legit?

I found this interesting:
'School rallies around dismissed Watts teacher deemed too 'Afro-centric.'
""You embody what it means to be a warrior-scholar, a freedom-fighting intellectual," she told students through a bullhorn in one video. "You are part of the long legacy, the strong history, of fighting back."
In another instance, Salazar rips the Los Angeles Unified School District, saying, "This school system for too long has been not only denying them human rights, basic human rights, but doing it on purpose in order to keep them subservient, to subjugate them in society."
A union official said the critique against Salazar included a statement that her teaching was too "Afro-centric." An assistant principal, in his evaluation of a particular lesson, accused Salazar of brainwashing students, according to Salazar and others.
Her course materials include "The Autobiography of Malcolm X," which is approved for students. Salazar, 25, also sprinkles in lyrics of slain rapper Tupac Shakur and the poetry of Langston Hughes."

Town,
I will not go back and forth with you but as I said, you are indeed the one who is emotional because you cannot deal with people who share a different understanding of things.
Your making generalizations and assumptions and grouping me with former white female Clinton supporters etc...
I am voting for Obama but if I can voice when I do not agree with a decision or tactic. If I don't have the ability to voice discontent then I think that it is you who is too captivated by someone who you probably thinks "walks on water".
Obama's message and the way in which his campaign marketed him indeed gave off the impression that he was one who was not "politics as usual" if I am not mistaken and "unity" if I am not mistaken. So why are you acting as if some got that off the top of his head.
When you are a poltiican who markets yourself as one who isn't "politics as usual" and "politically expedient" then you do something that contradicts that then you are open to criticism.
When you are race neutral and single out a race of people then you are open to criticism.
I supported Obama before most people who began after Iowa. It had a lot to do with this message and his appeal had a lot to do with this message. So you cannot act as if millions of people got that from the top of their heads. I was busting my ass campaigning for him when nobody else was not and I am going to vote for him in November though I do not agree with some of what he has done recently.
I think that I have earned my right to voice any discontent and I think that my uncle has mulitiple reasons why he will go back to being apathetic in regards to politics.
Thank You.

You are the one who is emotional.
You said this:
"If Muslims don't like him, don't vote for him."
It is not that, you know that and if you read the article then you could at least be sympathetic. They feel like some AA's in regards to Obama though many are still going to support him. My uncle is very weary about it because like many I think he got his hopes to high up about Obama and his change and unity message then to have to deal with the reality of it.
If you are going to approach every single comment with that arrogance then skip over it.
I am voting for Obama. My uncle will probably do so too when November comes but I will tell you on this blog and everyone on this blog that they have to calm down when people come with the slightest crtique of the man. It can't all be "Yes We Can". If that was the case then I will head over to Obama's website blogs were that's all they say and when you have questions or critique, they report you as abusive and attack you.
I assume that we are all smart enough to deal with critque and different people's opinions. Obama has short comings because he is human like anyone else and is in a hard place. I do however don't agree with some of the tactics he used in this campaign.
Many of the things being spoken about are not excuses, they are real concerns. Muslims as I observed myself were very enthusistic but now their nervous and weary once again with the political process. They understand the issues that revolve around Obama embracing them but that does not stop people who are used to being discriminated against from feeling the sting.
If any critique of Obama is an excuse in your book then that is fine.

@Renee.
Thank you for informing me about that. I have always been upset about the airy silence amongst black leadership and from the community when it comes to the crimes done against black GLBT's. I hear the rhetoric about religion often in regards to blacks staying away from issues regarding homosexuals. However that is not okay. I get angry each time I hear it. I could care less what their beliefs are, that should be put to the side. We are discussing inhuman hate crimes and brutality in regards to black GLBT's. I also find that there is too often silence from GLBT organizations in regards to this. I hope that that has changed and I hope that the black community speaks up on behalf of their GLBT brothers and sisters.

I think that some of you are missing the point and once again getting too literal and personal. The ad has certain coding. It is for a particular audience. It will work but we must figure out why and what he is trying to do in it. I am not debating who is mother is or why he is like her, and his Africaness nothing like that....onl the message that he is trying to give to the voter and what he is basing off of. The preconceived notions in regards to race that he is basing it off of.
I am having this discussion over at Too Sense...here:

I wrote about it over at Too Sense, I don't care for it but of course white people like it especially the culturally and racially narrowminded and intolerant.

I am also happy that Mr. Dixon took the time out to come and tell us about what is going on in Georgia.
You see, I stopped defending Barack Obama in March/ April. As someone on here wrote, "I learned that there was no Santa Claus".

Thank You for informing me in regards to that. That is not good. At the end of the day, it will only hinder those in a district where there is a relatively large black population.
I wonder how others fell about that?
