My observation, from spending over a year deeply immersed in new media, and watching various companies interactions, is that the human dimension of social media is often missed. Social means human interaction. Corporate types should do well to remember. Also, only folks who are themselves heavy users of social media, can capture all the nuances of communication in this new space. My advice to any client interested in adopting new media initiative: sign up for all the major Web 2.0 sites, and spend a month or two playing around, creating own profile and personal message. The learning will be invaluable later.

LInk to last of many articles I wrote on topic:
http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com/2008/08/12/3-...

Re: 5 Blogs to pass along for Blog Day

Thanks for the honor!

Thanks also for featuring Afrigadget, also one of my favorite blogs! I follow you on Twitter, and can't help but notice your frequent tweets. I wonder how you do it. Do you ever sleep?

Thanks for bringing up the humanity piece. I know I can only relate to people, not machines that spill out information. Again, this is particularly obvious on Twitter. Anyone who just wants to push stuff, I turn off. This is why word of mouth is so powerful:

http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com/2008/08/06/wo...

You and I must be on the same wavelength. Or maybe it is just something bubbling up in the collective consciousness. And I am getting overwhelmed by all these new apps. Regarding the Wordpress app, I was already feeding my posts into my profile page, so I am not sure about the difference with the new app. I guess it makes it easier for people to leave comments?

marguerite
http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com

Re: New Zealand Finds Itself Potential Dumping Ground for Toxic Chinese Exports: CORRECTED

This is scary!!!! His company Energy Recovery Inc, based in California, won the Environmental Exporter of the Year Award last year. In honor of Blog Action Day, I just started this new section in my blog, called Blogacts, for blogging + activism. I would like to invite you to be a guest blogger on my blog, and write about one of your blog acts, something you did or are planning to do, involving both writing in your blog, and following up with some kind of activist gesture in your community. Of course, I would link the post back to your site!

let me know if that is something you would like to do, I would certainly feel honored if you did.

marguerite

http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com

Re: Does Bicycle Friendliness Contribute to a City’s Economic Development

I don't know if bicycle friendliness contributes to economic development, but if for sure makes for a happier city, which in my mind, is really all that matters. I have written several posts on the topic, inspired from my visit back home to Paris this summer. The Velib' initiative there has been tremendously successful. And a very fun way to get people to start thinking, and acting green.

marguerite manteau-rao

http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com
'It's All About Green Psychology'

Re: Always Look on the Bright Side of Life Dept.: the Melting Arctic

There is a group of people who are hoping to benefit from climatic changes, no doubt. It is human nature to look out for our own self-interest. What your article alludes to however, is that nature has its own ways of telling us who is boss. It is only a matter of time, before even seemingly benefiting places start experiencing negative consequences, in some unforeseen twist.

http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com

Re: Reminder: Greener Gadgets Conference Coming Next Week

Greener gadget? I, unfortunately, like the author, belong more to the green wannabe wimp category.
