Hi Kate. Thanks for stopping by La Marguerite again. Yes, let's talk . . . One of my greatest pleasure is to co-conspire with other like minded souls, who want to give of their brain, and heart, to make the world a better place. And, yes, social media rocks! (provided it is grounded is some real life initiatives). Have a very joyful Christmas!

in Exclusive: (Fake) Sarah Palin Twitter Interview on The Washington Independent
How about Fake Sarah Palin blog?

http://whatssarahthinking.com

complete with Sarah's Ten Commandments:

* Alaska always comes first
* Marriage is an act of God, between a man and a woman
* Nature is for us to shoot, and mine, and timber, and fish, and drill
* Sarah is always right, after God
* We shall banish books that soil our children's souls
* We shall listen to God's will, over science
* We shall not let the wolves, and the whales, and the salmons, and the polar bears, stand in the way of oil
* We shall not teach sex education to our children, but abstinence instead
* We shall spread the gospel of creation
* We shall support life at all costs, even when the unborn child is a product of rape or incest

Nice to see you are mixing a bit of green in your technology, venture mix.

With the prospect of Sarah Palin becoming our President, more than ever the burden will fall on private enterprise to help solve the sustainability crisis facing us.

Marguerite -

This is Kate (the other half of Other Side). My pleasure on the posting,
I've enjoyed your blog since Anya passed it along! Yes, isn't Afrigadget
great?!

I'm doing a small volunteer project myself, and Erik is one of the advisors
on the project.... we're trying to determine whether there is enough
quantitative data in citizen journalist activities (so, blogs, sms messages
etc) to develop an early warning system for social crises. For instance,
the first portion is a look at Kenyan blogs (with Ushahidi and White African
in there!), and looking literally at the time stamp, type of information,
comments etc of citizens who posted warnings, events and updates during the
Dec/Jan election situation and trying to see if those postings were more
influential than mainstream media and could we glean anything useful for the
future? It's a very fun project! I just love that sort of thing :)

Cheers, and I hope to keep in touch,
Kate

in The M word: Measuring success in new media on Ad Your Comment Here
Nice summary, Anya! My observation, from spending over a year deeply immersed in new media, and watching various companies interactions, is that the human dimension of social media is often missed. Social means human interaction. Corporate types should do well to remember. Also, only folks who are themselves heavy users of social media, can capture all the nuances of communication in this new space. My advice to any client interested in adopting new media initiative: sign up for all the major Web 2.0 sites, and spend a month or two playing around, creating own profile and personal message. The learning will be invaluable later.

in What I Want PR and Marketing Professionals To Know on Chris Brogan
Thanks Chris. I follow you on Twitter, and can't help but notice your frequent tweets. I wonder how you do it. Do you ever sleep?

Thanks for bringing up the humanity piece. I know I can only relate to people, not machines that spill out information. Again, this is particularly obvious on Twitter. Anyone who just wants to push stuff, I turn off. This is why word of mouth is so powerful:

http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com/2008/08/06/wo...

You and I must be on the same wavelength. Or maybe it is just something bubbling up in the collective consciousness. Humanity lost as we plunder cyberspace with too many commercial messages.

Susie, thanks for stopping by La Marguerite and for the great info on Hawaii mandating solar for all new homes by 2010.

Please keep up your important work here on Canary Report. My problem is there is so much we need to know, and simply do not have the time to research. In the end, it comes down to having better laws and standards. That will only happen if citizens, and regulators are well informed.

For an answer, go back to the user, you, and why you are using Twitter.

Do I prefer and ad-free Twitter? You bet. Would I stop using if there were ads? Probably not.

Ads do seem the easy way out. And I love people who impress me with their creativity...

Robert, Marc,

This is not a techie comment, just a plug in for my rather irreverent green blog, in case you two are interested in green stuff, and ecopsychology (how personal psychology effects how we deal with our environment). It chronicles "The Daily Sins of a Green Girl Wannabe", http://lamarguerite.wordpress.com.

I also started a new environmental group on Facebook, for "Green Boys and Green Girl Wannabes". Of course I would love for you and your friends to join.
