in Testing both ways on Life is grand
You make a good point but your example raises an interesting question.
If you request deletion of ID n then the successful result is that the row with ID n no longer exists after the operation. This is the case if ID n did not exist in the first place so can it really be said to be an error if a non-existent item is deleted?

Perhaps you're too young to remember the heydays of Scope magazine when one of the top models was Sian Adey-Jones. Most teenage boys thought her name was pronounced "See-ann" but of course it was something like "Shan". She was Welsh of course. Welsh, Irish, all those Gaelic languages have funny pronunciation.

I hear what you're saying about the click wheel. One of the things I love about my 30GB iPod Photo is that I can adjust volume, play, pause, advance tracks, etc. through the fabric of my shirt pocket.
Regarding keeping certain songs off your Nano, this is quite easy to do. In iTunes you'll notice a checkbox to the left of each track. Uncheck any you never want on the Nano and then check the preferences. I forget exactly where but probably on the iPod tab is an option to only sync checked tracks. You can use Ctrl-click to have all checkboxes in the current window toggle along with the one you're clicking.

I think it's just a visual reminder that makes it less likely to forget to add a comma when appending or inserting to the column list.

When you have hundreds (or thousands even) of databases installed in 30-odd countries you put a heavy focus on correctly upgrading the database as part of a new release. It gets really fun if your upgrade destroys customers' databases. Particularly as many of them cavalierly ignore the fact that you gave them an easy way to backup and stressed that they should use it. Backups? What backups?
I was making a joke about Enterprise Manager, which actually first appeared with MSSQL7, or perhaps even 6.0 or 6.5. I have worked with MSSQL at one level or another since 4.2 when all there was was a query analyzer type tool.

The way I work is to have a local copy of our development database. I write my own scripts in a text editor as I need new database functionality. I then run these to update my local database. When I've finished developing and am ready to commit the changes to the development server I can run my tested and debugged scripts to update it. We have an automated upgrade procedure of our own creation that extracts code and table changes from the development database and prepares scripts that can update production databases.
BTW what is this Enterprise Manager you spoke of? :-)

in Lethal stereotype on Life is grand
It's been ages since I saw that but remember thinking the same thing at the time. I don't think I've ever heard of any South African called van den Haas either, but Rika is a fairly common name I think. There was an actress you used to see a lot of on TV in the 80s and 90s called Rika Sennett, or was she a newsreader? I forget.
Considering that Danny Glover has been in quite a few movies with a somewhat anti-apartheid slant, I wonder if this might have been a condition of his appearing?
