One that I use often is in assembly, hold alt before you grab a part to start a mate, drag the component to what you want to mate it to, and it will automatically mate the parts, if you need to switch the alignment, the tab key accomplishes this if you press it before releasing the mouse button.

I suppose I would copy the view, create a broken out section view, and select the whole view. then you can make it any depth. Would that work in your situation?

Kyle, perhaps your vid card only has a silver rating, meaning only parts of the real view package works. that is the case with my fx500, I too, get no joy on the glow..

OOps, I didn't read the fine print, and now I have strayed off topic. Photoworks and DOF are greek to me, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't as powerful or user friendly as a program made specifically for rendering.

Good stuff. Personally, when I am learning something new, nothing inspires me more than a friendly competition among fellow learners. Especially when there are more than one way to do something, when the competion is complete, the top few competitors can try to explain how and why they did something the way that they did, that way, folks can learn from more than one person at a time, and may get more out of the lesson...

Just as a side note, if you are in to way fast, way inexpensive prototypes, like me, their partner company, First Cut Prototype, machines the part from blocks of the actual material you specify, making them a groovy alternative to spending on tooling.

I think that rather than wishing myself out of a job by beaing able to think about the part I want and have it drawn for me, I would like to see the future of CAD be all about solid modeling, and have the ol' 3 view made for me 100% automatically, that way I could get my modeling done, and skip straight to the golf part of my day!

The words wow and oh my come to mind. Its very cool to see what can be done outside of sprockets and gears. This is actually inspiring.

Do you think this method would be effective for 10,000 part assemblies as well??
