If you're searching for www.learntoduck.com and the first result is www.learntoduck.com, you're pretty sure that it is an authoritative result. If the first result is www.I-SEOed-this-first-result-haha.com, and the second result is www.learntoduck.com, most people will choose the second result because of their own "self-filter". Self-filters are click agnostic. =)

The second line of trust would fall into unknowns or unknowables that aren't caught by one's own self-filter. I agree that the chain-of-trust in the gateway clicks are where lijit can be of most value over the machine-based search engines, even with the Wikipedias and Mahalos competing for audiences seeking authoritative information.

Re: Lijit Uncovers a Douche Bag

Oh Snap!

You know though, the perp could be a non-myyahoolog user and not show up in myyahoolog at all.

Re: 5 Lessons Learned From Gordon Ramsay

I always love the little prayer he says before he tries the establishment's food for the first time -- asking that their food not kill him.

I admit it, I'm a Gordon Ramsay junkie.

Re: Micah Baldwin: Random Thoughts and Public Musings

Awwww. At best it is a tv network that produces dramatic programming about current events. CNN is the MTV of news.

Re: Amp’d Mobile asset list *not* full of porn

This doesn't look like a dvd list. It's listed under IP, which would have me think that this is the type of content AMP'd produced in-house to sell to their customers (and for some reason, their receivers think some other company might be interested in purchasing).

Re: Lijit Throws Ads Onto My Site

Hey Micah & Chris,

I have never had google ads (or text ad links of any kind) on any of my sites and I never will -- I think they're ugly and distract my ADD-addled brain.

Call me clueless, but I never saw the ads on lijit before the NewTech Meetup. I should have paid more attention before I put the wijit on my blogs.

I removed lijit from my page after NewTech because I don't want ads on my site, even if the search result page is served by lijit.

I would probably purchase an ad-free lijit solution if the price was right -- and being a Z-list blogger with no visitors, lijit would probably make more than ads from my subscription.

Re: A Losing Battle with Blog Comment Spam? Is Share This Plugin at Fault?

Hi Josh,

I believe we met last week at Opencoffee.

The issue with blogspam, and webform spam in general is, almost all of it is generated by zombie robot armies (yes, I wish I had a photo too).

You can see some replication in sources over time, but it doesn't take much thought or effort by these scammers' to infect more broadband-connected home computers with viruses, worms or trojans that send spam email or spam webforms all day.

I just returned to blogging last week after abandonning a Movable Type-based blog three years ago because every time I'd return to my blog, there would be 3000 comments about pills, spread across a couple hundred posts. Luckily I haven't been noticed by the spammers yet.

Last summer, the spambots discovered one of my oldest web services (http://jenn.com/canadian/canadian.shtml). I chose to write a spam filter rather than abandon it, because it was over 10 years-old and shutting it down wasn't an option.

Four lines of perl and a 150 word "spamword" list syphen off the spam attempt information to a non-visited page (http://jenn.com/canspam.html). So honorary Canadians can now celebrate in a now over 99% spam-free (It is also very mean) environment.

- Jenn

Re: A Losing Battle with Blog Comment Spam? Whether it is a PHP/mailto form vulnerability used to sent out regular spam through other peoples'/companies' websites or a WordPress plugin, it's what they go after.

If the ShareThis plugin doesn't speak to the anti-spam filter plugin, then it's likely that the spam is entering though the ShareThis plugin backdoor.
