in HP Mini 1000 starting price drops to $359 on Liliputing
Brad -
So what's the verdict on the heat build-up of the 1000? Is it WIND cool or fry an egg on it 2133? I was thinking of picking one up, but I hate a hot netbook....
Thanks

in HP Magic GiveAway update on Liliputing
Brad -
When you fire up the Mini 1000 you need to answer my burning question about the how hot this little sucker gets! Laptop Magazine never addressed this in their review which was odd since the HP 2133 had serious heat build up issues (it was the reason I EBAYED mine off). Please post this info when you get a chance...gracias...

Brad-
I had an interesting find at NCIX.com (they're a big electronics retailer in Canada and ship worldwide). The have the MSI WIND u90 in stock, all 3 colors, for 342.00 with shipping to NY (for me) just 20.00...and no tax. This is cheap WIND alternative if you like to experiment with this little netbooks like myself. It comes with Novell SUSE as the OS with 512mb ram . http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=1111...

6 Cell MSI Wind and EEE PC 1000H are back in stock at MWave....599 for the Wind and 559 for the EEE....I wonder who they know at MSI to score the 6 cell Winds?

in It’s official: MSI Wind with 6-cell battery gets a $50 price hike on Liliputing
Hey
Since they're both the same price now, and the EEE has at least 3 more features than the WIND....and the fact you can get an EEE now...the choice is easy!

Well, not exactly easy.
A) Newegg is the only retailer I've seen selling the Eee PC 1000H for $550
and Newegg is out of stock.
B) According to Laptop Magazine, the MSI Wind gets about 30-40 minutes more
battery life out of a 6 cell battery than the Eee PC 1000H
So it all depends on which features matter the most... and how soon you want
to buy.

Whoops. I should read the AdSense on my own page more often. It looks like
you can also pick up an Eee PC 1000H for $550 from Excaliber PC:

You forgot one of the most important benefits of the 1000H over the WIND - accessibility! 2 screws and you're deep inside the EEE - everything is right there under the bottom access panel - memory and HD can be swapped in minutes - and that's important to hobbiests like myself - the WIND just fails in that respect.

in MSI Wind with 6 cell battery now available on Liliputing
Hey People..
I think it's just a supply and demand thing going on - as we saw with the EEE PC 1000H, the manufactures have quite a bit of wiggle room with the price of these netbooks and are willing to drop the price to be competative. When Dell and Acer get into the mix next month I'm sure MSI and ASUS will respond with more price drops. I actually picked up the 1000H when the price dropped and I'm very happy with it...but I do feel I paid too much for it...but I was sick of waiting for the WIND...
I say hold your ground folks - wait it out a few more weeks...and by Christmas I bet we'll be seeing netbooks at the intended 200-300 price...

I agree with you FDA, I was tired of waiting for the 6 cell wind so i bought the eee pc 1000h after the price drop. I'm glad I did cause it's cheaper than thee 6 cell wind now! They said the 6 cell wouldn't be available until Sept so I just went for the eee. I think if you do wait until Sept, prices will go down cause the dell e will come out

Hey-
That's EXACTLY why I just bought the Acer , an interim toy- I was waiting for months for the WIND with the 6 Cell battery only to learn that's not shipping for another 3 months at least. I can't wait to get it...

in Acer Aspire One goes under the knife on Liliputing
How come he said the RAM is soldered to the MB when the pics clearly show the dim slot on the underside of the MB with a 512mb stick in it? It's like the WIND - it has some ram on the MB, but is expandable...granted, not easily!

You are 100% right, you can upgrade it to 1.5 G RAM, you can add a one G RAM to it, most people don't read (look) carefully...

I got it from a store in Huntsville, AL called Gigaparts. Here is a link
http://www.gigaparts.com/store.php?action=profi...
I paid a little more to get it locally with taxes and all, but it was purely an impulse buy and I don't regret it so far. The MSI Wind had my attention but I figure I could use this for a couple of months until it gets easily available in the US.

in Poll results: Which Linux distro is best for netbooks on Liliputing
Personally the delays have made me take more of a stance of evaluating all the new net books that will be available in the next couple of months. Since I no longer have that GOTTA HAVE IT NOW urge due to the unavailability of the Wind, I will probably wait for the 6 cell to be available before I get one, or seriously look at the DELL E since price wise, it's a couple of hundred less from the looks of it...

in Amazon starts taking MSI Wind preorders on Liliputing
Brad -
Very interesting Wind configuration is available now at J&R.com: Intel Atom 1.6 GHz / 1GB RAM / 80GB Hard Drive / 1.3 Webcam / 802.11AGN / Bluetooth / 4-in-1 Card Reader / 3-Cell Battery / Vista Home Premium
http://www.jr.com/msi-microstar/pe/MSR_U100035LA/
I didn't think they were going to release a Vista version at all - but when I called them they insisted the specs were correct and the model number is different than the amazon one. Seen any performance specs with Vista?

I totally need one to play with too and can't find any place selling it yet except for some overseas UK sites. All the other UPMCs had at least some major sites (like AMAZON and PC Connection) on board taking pre-orders months before their release so I'm thinking distribution of the WIND is going to be an issue...

Well, MSI didn't officially announce the computer until this morning. So I'd
give it a few days. I'm fairly certain you'll be able to find preorder pages
at Amazon, Newegg, and other sites soon.

proecessing, etc). I watched a 44 minute Hulu video last night and the area
directly under the touchpad got pretty hot, but the battery was just a bit
on the warm side.
