I disagree with some earlier comments stating that Facebook users will abandon ship if there's some in-your-face ad monetisation. People moan about the new design yet stick with it in their droves. The whole point of Facebook is that it's where everyone else is.

It's clear that Facebook's valuation was based on potential revenue rather than current monetisation. What is disturbing is that in the time since then they really haven't made much ground at all in trying to turn their massive subscriber base into a thriving market.

The survival of Facebook shouldn't be in question, but the future of its management.

I'm sure the upturn in the UK is partly thanks to the BBC and Sky News's frequent (and embarrassing) references to the blogosphere. In kind of a "hey we have our fingers on the pulse" way that comes across as "we're desperately trying to look cool".

Cost per click goes up year on year for Google - what a surprise, no wonder so many are investing in SEO for organic search engine visibility, the CPC model's not viable for many small businesses to compete.

The bit about contacts excites me tremendously. I feed all of my business email through my Gmail account, and everyone sending an enquiry would be added. At least once a day I'd have to deal with someone popping up asking who I am and why I've added myself to their contacts list. It's rather invasive

The worst offender, at least here in the UK, is companies declaring a product's price is "less than £500!" when it is, of course, £499.99

If it was Yahoo's platform and brand, backed by Microsoft financially rather than administratively, then I can't see how they wouldn't severely dent (if not usurp) Google's market share.

I think the best approach to this is when someone from one field dives into another e.g. SEO expert guest blogging on a graphic design blog advising people on how to get their websites higher on Google. It's a nie way to introduce the guest blogger to a different audience.
