in Cuba’s Next Steps: Is Real Reform on the Way? on The Washington Independent
A pivotal time for Cuba has come. Will the new change promote healthy relations between the U.S. and Cuba, and will the embargo finally be put to rest along with this, what seems to be, outdated grudge against the island nation by the U.S. government? Trade agreements, oil and mineral drilling rights, and other prospects indulge my curiosity, however the most important issue is travel. Will I finally be able to buy a round trip ticket to Cuba without having to go to another country for safe passage to Cuba and deceive my own beloved country in the process? One can only hope.

Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte said the United States will not soon lift its embargo on Cuba despite Castro's resignation. Perhaps the change that will come with the U.S. election in November could provide a reasonable solution instead of the stalemate that has existed for 50 years. It would be interesting for the current candidates to comment or debate on such questions.
