in What’s The Big Deal About Twitter @ Reply Changes? Will It Affect YOUR Twitter Experience? on Mr Tweet Blog
Forgot to add - you can get around the change anyway by typing something in front of the @ - so:
Hey @ecoelf - great link!
Will go into your stream as normal and not be treated as an @ message in the usual sense.

in What’s The Big Deal About Twitter @ Reply Changes? Will It Affect YOUR Twitter Experience? on Mr Tweet Blog
I always had my settings so that I only saw @ messages between people when I followed both parts of the conversation - I can't for the life of me see why anyone would want to see half a conversation - it would be like listening to half a phone conversation!
But, others loved it, and lots didn't even know that they could change their settings, so I guess Twitter has to try and appease them somehow (although I do disagree with myself on that front sometimes - it's a FREE service for goodness' sake!).
I wrote my thoughts on it here: http://businessontwitter.co.uk/twitter/2009/05/...

If you see half the conversation, you then have the option to go to the new person & see the other half. And, you make a lot of new discoveries in the process. That's the joy of it.
Corvida
How many times have you joined in on a conversation based on hearing only half of it in real life? I do this quite often. It's a way of networking, even on Twitter. That's exactly what this feature was like for some of us.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts Nikki and thanks for the workaround.

Sadly, it's the throwaway lines about dog poo that make the news, not your cutting edge insight on SEO.
Better luck next year. Actually, I might do this monthly... got a lot of traffic.

Shocking? Maybe. Surprising? Not at all.
I'm one of the few people that manages to gain clients and exposure from Ecademy, but have no doubts that nothing regarding the unprofessionalism of the management team surprises me.
Let's not forget that the owner of Ecademy retweets his private D Twitter messages automatically....
I'll be interested to see the public response to this.

in Twitter is Booting Followers or Spammers? on Jacob Morgan on Social Media, Technology, Marketing, and Life
According to http://status.twitter.com/ :
"We’re still in the process of recovering from the missing follower/following problem that occurred earlier today. Over the next several hours, you may see inaccurate counts or timeline inconsistencies as the correct data is propagated to all parts of the system.
One thing to note: Even after this recovery is complete, your counts may appear lower than previously. In almost all cases, this is not due to missing data. The counts we display on your profile page are not always up-to-date. For example, when we remove spammers from the system (which we’ve been doing a lot lately), the follower counts are not updated in real-time.
As we push out the changes to fix this afternoon’s problem, the counts will be updated to reflect the latest numbers."

in How much time are you wasting on Twitter? on Scobleizer
They're not REALLY the 'anti-twitter' though are they? Can we spell 'bandwagon' ?
Rescue Time is a great program, if a little addictive in itself - but it's good to know where you're spending time and be able to adapt accordingly.
Twitter doesn't have to take up a lot of time unless you let it.

in The 3 Types of Twitter Followers on Jacob Morgan on Social Media, Technology, Marketing, and Life
I agree with michael - a lot of people follow others, not to engage in conversation, but to glean information, find new trends, and find info to pass on.
Some of the people I follow are people I like to chat with, others are people I like to learn from, and yet others are people I just like to keep an eye on ;)
I recently asked my followers why they followed me (I only have 200 or so but I wanted to know) and most of the said they follow because they like my articles and like the tips I Tweet.
Unfortunately no-one said they followed me because i was cool :(

in Is Your Blog For Rent on Chris Brogan
Well if Coke want to send me pallets full of Coke Zero so I'll blog about drinking it and how I couldn't live without it i'd be happy to. :)
I remember a UK jobs website that used to tell their readers what Pot Noodle they were eating every day - eventually people started asking, if they weren't told. They weren't sponsored, but they could have been.
Danny Sullivan often Tweets saying he's drinking Diet Coke - maybe he's getting sponsored?
The other day I plurked and Tweeted about eating Pickled Onion Monster Munch - I'm sure I'd mention them more if I was sponsored and sent loads of packets :)
There are ways that Coke could do it, but they need to think a little more subtly than IN YER FACE!!!!!! as they do.

in Is Your Blog For Rent on Chris Brogan
I think that blogs have been for rent for a long time, but it's deemed 'OK' now to admit it. And by it being out in the open, more companies are realising that sending you evaluation stuff doesn't mean that you HAVE to blog about it, just that you may if it's good enough.
I notice quite a few online products offering incentives if you blog about their products too - not all of them are as open about it though.
In some ways it's just an advancement of affiliate marketing I guess.

Twitter is a valuable marketing tool. but only if you add value too. People will soon 'unfollow' you if all your posts are self promotional.
