Wouldn't mind one of those invites for Kickstarter if you still have one. Really neat looking service.

hah! On one hand, the left think republicans are dumb simpletons. On the other, they're able to pull this sort of thing off, plan 9/11 and actively repress a nation of people.
Can't have it both ways guys.
I suppose they pre-plotted getting the Blue Dog dem's on board with everything too? Good grief.

in The Newest Way To Game Twitter - Fake Followers on That's What He Said
Very strange. I'll have to poke around the twitterholic database later. Not sure where we stand on our API limits (we typically max out twitter's 20k limit for white listers), but it shouldn't be hard to produce a list of all the bogus accounts.
Hopefully twitter hq is already on the task!

It's not that start up activity will completely cease, it's just that cash flow may become very important. Advertising revenue dries up in a hurry during a recession. In a lot of ways, this could be the first real solid test of internet companies. (Though, I'll be the last person to try to predict the marketplace)
We had the dot.com bust, which was largely our own doing and very much a correction. We had 9/11, which wasn't so much a nature business cycle as much as an event, and now we have (or could have) a full blown recession on the horizon.
No exits, no cash flow, no returns.
On the other hand, smart people pushed up against the wall do genius things. Someone will create something that will be the center of the next boom. Big, big reason to keep swinging through the 'storm'.
Great post Nate, enjoy Ohio ;)

#1: Don't.
Not to be completely snarky, there are a lot of legit social media consultants out there (and at least one dangerously awesome one). Unfortunately, there are also a lot of hacks
Let's say I had a car and I wanted to become a better driver of that car. Let's say I was willing to pay a consultant for help. I'd likely look to hire someone who has built cars, or raced cars, or done something else successfully with cars. Hiring a "social media consultant" strikes me as hiring a "Midgrade Unleaded Consultant" in this horrible metaphor. Nothing wrong about hearing the excitement around midgrade unleaded. It really changed the game when it came out. Luxury car owners were able to start saving a little bit per gallon and driving farther for the dollar over the long haul. There's just, you know.. A lot more to consider.
Social media is important, it's enabled a lot of people to do things easier/cheaper than they were before in a lot of cases. Thing is, it's just a piece of the larger business puzzle. If someone can't speak intelligently about the larger picture from different stand points, you'll likely not get the ROI you're looking for. You'll just hear a bunch of dribble about "conversations" in 140 characters or less.

Obama just gave the republican party all the ammunition they need.
I'm also trying to think of the demo's that Biden helps secure, and the only ones I can come up with are the white working class dem's that would normally vote dem anyhow but are still upset that Hillary lost. Soo.. Biden helps recapture say, 15% of the missing Hillary votes?
Biden's foreign policy experience is a huge plus, but saying he's the expert on the ticket when he supported the war in Iraq kind of counters Obama's bread and butter. Biden's also a 30+ year senator -- a Washington establishment. That's not really a hope/change kind of pick.

I submitted a huge list of words ending in .me, all were accepted and then rather quickly rejected. I'm guessing a spam bot hit it early and hard or something.

I met three of my best friends at UCF Orientation. One of them was Gavin Hall, who became my business partner on a couple ventures (including Emurse.com).
Freshman year is a heck of a time to meet people -- everyones in networking mode. Take advantage of it and enjoy every second of it! Hit me up come tailgating season, I'll introduce you to some cool folks!

Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review.
We're constantly looking for ways to improve the service and continually test out new features. Stronger support for international markets is most certainly on our radar. Hopefully soon :)

Great list Sean!
For anyone interested, Emurse is considerably more than a fan of microformats.
Emurse is a complete job hunting site that helps people quickly and effectively manage multiple resumes, job leads and their digital identity. You can search jobs if you are actively seeking a new position, or passively listen to Employers/Recruiters looking to fill positions. All privacy centric, all based on job seeker preferences.
Best,
Alex Rudloff

Great review and great work netscape!

And this right here: "plan 9/11" is silly. A small minority-around 6%-of Libertarians, Republicans and Democrats think Bush planned 9/11. I've known since 9/11 happened that the Bush adminstration was too dumb to plan anything like that. I do charge them with gross negligence however. And that takes about as much smarts as Joe the Plumber routinely demonstrates...
