in does this look right? on John's Blog
When you redo it, you should consider a serif font for the text blocks, because it makes it more easily readable.

in welcome to the web, NYT on John's Blog
It is awesome how far back their newly opened archives go. Somewhere (don't remember where :( ) I saw somebody linking to an 1850-or-so NYT article.

Apparently, "not calling" has just become an interpretable term.

Oh, nice! I'd have time but getting home from Paris in the middle of the night seems complicated ;) Three-hour train rides for the win!

Looks like Steve's reality distortion field has started to distort his own perception as well. The universe is probably going to implode soon.

in microsoft & silverlight on John's Blog
Nicely written. Keep in mind though, what you call the "wrong war" is clearly the "right war" from Microsoft's POV. I remember Redmond woeing when Google bought Doubleclick, because it may create an internet monopoly of sorts. But Microsoft doesn't mind monopolies per se -- it only minds the ones that are not theirs. So them trying to push people into yet another proprietary solution isn't so surprising after all.

Regarding spreadsheets on OSX, have you ever given Neooffice/J a shot? Okay, it's Java, but on my Intel Mac it runs very snappy. Much better than the X11 port of OpenOffice, of course ;)
The experience with NeoOffice can only be overcome by a native OpenOffice port.

in life without IM on John's Blog
So, did it help? I, for my part, usually just don't answer if I have to work and somebody tries to bother me with non-urgent stuff. Instant messages, despite their name, don't need instant repies, after all.
