in Foreign Policy’s “intellectuals” — the Hayekian kind? on OpenMarket.org
Perhaps we might revert to Robert Nozick's classification of "Intellectuals" as "wordsmiths," basically, people who yack a lot - and, we might add: with some pretense of learning, academic imprimatur, or public persona.

in Financial ETFs: Is It Safe to Go In the Water? on ETF Trends
One "conservative" way to follow any major recoveries in the financials is DVY.

DVY is heavily weighted to banks and financials (historic reasons, but has the backstop of some pharmacueticals, utilities, and others. Look at the composition of the DJ Select Dividend Index (available on the web).

Financials rise the index rises, tho not fully proportionately. Same on downside.

Why leave out JJG the subindex of JJA. JJG is grains only.

in Government Tax Cuts on Stocks Make China ETFs Soar on ETF Trends
Shouldn't you note that PGJ is an index of U S listed companies trading INTO and with China? Unlike FXI which reflects the Chinese "market."

Do you include ETNs and ETCs in your chart?

in Corn Planting to Decrease This Year, Helping Agriculture ETF on ETF Trends
Do you suspect that perceptions from USDA projections of U S corn planting will hit MOO (MO for hybrids and DE for harvesters)?

Remember Keynes dicta: The trick in betting on "beauty contests" (aphorism for speculation) is not picking the one you find most beautiful, but the one you think the judges will find most beautiful. That's sort of fitting for ETNs (and most ETFs).

Why do you not cite JJG (because it's an ETN?), which is steady on subset grains from its momma JJA broad Ag?

in There’s Plenty of Blame to Go Around for Run-Up In Commodity ETFs on ETF Trends
One element to consider is the change in ratio of use to stockpiles and the timing element for rebuilding or adding to stockpiles - a "future" event.

I believe stats will show that rate of use has been climbing faster than the rate of stockpile building (the latter is negative in some commodities).

in Virginia Taxes Skyrocket on OpenMarket.org
P.S. That would be great discipline fot the county commisioners in slending and setting budgets. Those assessments would not result in toatlaly spendable revenues.

in Virginia Taxes Skyrocket on OpenMarket.org
A few years back, as an owner of some of that vaunted N.VA. Real Estate (still am, but it is on the market) I proposed that collection of a portion of the tax arising from increasing assessments, be deferred until sale or disposition of the property when the TRUE value would be known and realized. Every property would have a tax reserve acct in the county records. If the tax reserve on assessed value exceeded the realized value at sale the added tax would be eliminated or reduced. If greater, they now get it in the "Congestion Tax."
