James T that was funny davie, when me and the missus were in oban during the xmas holidays we tuned into top gear showing clarkson and co riding vespas and c90's across vietnam, so to see that once again he is subjected to antoher vespa shows the guy is a closet mod..... I for one think he has a point in that scooters will become very popular once again due to the economy and petrol being unstable etc....
ChrisC Yes indeed Davie, very witty. But he missed a massive open goal if he was looking for something that gave him a better chance of living due to it being good at breaking down. We will need to give him some info on buyin a Lammy Li Li !

Chris C Spot on Davie. But believe it or not wee Shorty was a skin when I first knew him, and then he jumped ship into the rockabilly camp.

You've done a great job here Jimmy. If it wasn't for all the hard work you done this page wouldn't exist and old friends wouldn't have got in touch with each other. A lot of memories have come back and faces forgotten now remembered.
To do this off your own back deserves a lot of credit . . . well done and thanks for the memories.
All the best Jimmy (& crew) for 2009 from the Blair Clan.

jamest Hi Davie and thanks for encouragement. I forgot to mention that I have put in touch over 100 people in the background from all over the world and got them all chatting again, so thanks for reminding me on that. just incase anyone wants to know how it all started back in Jan 2007 with an idea to firstly find everyone and then build a site, a lot of credit does go to April who found me through my brother in around July 2007 and encouraged me to go to friday street, the rest they say is history. http://www.glasgowmods.co.uk/2008/04/24/the-beg...

Chris, i don't think its the same rab "hairy dan" smith - i'm sure he passed my house a couple months ago on his scoot. Ive been tryin to track him down to get in touch again when i saw him drive by - never got time to shout he went by that fast. Why was he called hairy dan? I kept askin him years ago but he wouldnt tell me?
Last i saw him was at Peds funeral but never got a contact number fae him.

ChrisC Hi Davie. As far as I recall Rab was called 'Hairy Dan' because he was a skin, well that was the reason as far as we knew anyway. I have not seen him since about 1983 or something when he used to go around with the Pollok team. And John is Stevie Binghams brother.

Grubs 1st class in there. I stay down 2 or 3 nights a week - too far to commute to glasgow every day. All the lads on the site are workin away from home and thats where they all eat at night. Cheapest place ever for grub and 1st class quality. My b&b is 2mins walk - not too far to stagger after a few ciders. Went into town centre a few weeks ago on a tuesday nite. Place was bouncin for a tuesday (student nite?). Nearly got in a fight wi some dude. Glaswegians eh? Canny go anywhere without upsettin the neighbours :)
Got ur number now swap - i'll gie ye a bell and we'll meet up.

ChrisC Cheers Davie. I do also remember the wee metal things that we used to hammer into the bottom of the leather shoes. Why we did is now a mystery to me. As both yourself and Charlie have pointed out, the downside to the great noise they made was that come the winter you were bound to be on your arse with them more often than not.

Chris c - i put a wee smiley near the end of my message above when i wrote it - all good fun m8 . . :p
Here, whats wrong wi flat tops - i had one . . . don't tell anybody !!

ChrisC Cheers Davie. I am just a wee bit embarassed, not so much with the way that I actually had my hair cut then, but the style that was associated with it all. Even at the time when I thought the haircut was quite good I also thought that the psychobilly stuff and music was total nonsense. Most people thought that everyone who had a flat top was into that music and we definitely were not. A lot of people out there would say that my choice of style and music is crap, and they are absolutely entitled to think that. They are wrong obviously, but they are entitled to say so.

To finish off on Davie. I have to say that your Rally 200 looks brilliant. A mate of ours had one and I often had a go on it and it was beautiful and really fast. It was so fast in fact that he wrapped it round a lamp post in Springburn Road.

Chris c - some folks got fed up prancin about in hipsters. So what if they wore army greens & docs. Whats the big deal? Some folks left the mod scene and continued their love of scooters - hence scooter boy/girl. Scooter boys became a way of life in their own right. If you had a love of vespas & lambrettas, did that mean you had to become a mod to drive one? Nope. You drove one & wore what you like. The thing with mod above all else is the fashion, the music is secondary - NG hates ska, some mods dont like jazz, not every mod was into soul, but all mods dressed the same -ish. Scooterboys - all into scooters, wore what they liked (& we still do). Folks even got into scooters without becoming a mod. So, whats wrong - did yer mod bird run away with a scooterboy? :) Are you still a mod?

James T nothing wrong with the army greens davie, just preferred my jeans to them.... I was more into all the music and my scooters looking back.....
ChrisC No way Davie, my Mod chicks had far too much taste for that carry on. Most of the things I say are all very tongue in cheek, and the scooter boy stuff is in much the same vein. Two of my great mates (Big Chris McCrae and Ped Smith) blighted their copybook by getting into that nonsense so I was definitely not having a real pop. Its the same with the NGM v EEM thing, its all a bit of a tin. If I am being totally honest the scooter boy thing was never for me, but each to their own. As I have said in previous posts I can only go so far with slagging off the army green mob as I did have a flat top hairdo for a couple of years, and in retrospect that looked absolute pish too. So cool the jets mate, and Keep the Faith.
