in Tiger Wheel & Tyre insurance - not worth it on alistair.pott
In this case they could have subsidized the insurance because if people are going to claim then they must come back to Tiger Wheel & Tyre. So it's another way of getting people to come back through that door later on.

Yeah, I was meaning to post one on the Triple Trouble. Here is the article about it that mentions us.

in Financial Mail on a possible Zuma presidency on alistair.pott
Very interesting. The fact is that we don't really know what JZ is going to do - and that is a little frightening. We do know that his judgment isn't great.

in How rich mothers have more sons on alistair.pott
Thanks Gail - you're right I did mean that more daughters were conceived immediately after 9/11. (Just checked to make sure).

in There are only two kinds of work on alistair.pott
His answer in general is that these people are "giving advice as to what orders should be given."

However, I think that your point about those in entertainment is good. Although perhaps their's cannot be defined as work! :)

in Why the whole world doesn’t read this blog - the elaboration likelihood model on alistair.pott
Exactly - humans use heuristics for almost everything and that makes good sense (because of the costs of central processing).

And there is only one way we could get that way - evolution

in Digg forced to surrender by a user revolt on alistair.pott
The only thing is that this may lead to the demise of Digg. They will probably lose in court.

This is an example of when democratisation can cause a loss for everyone. But this was an important step in the ongoing copyright revolution going on right now. Very interesting.

in Why I don’t like rap on alistair.pott
I think that you hit the nail on the head - there are too many other factors impacting your tastes in music. I think that I would have to listen to a LOT of rap before I started enjoying it!

in Why I don’t like rap on alistair.pott
UPDATE: I have read a more detailed account of the study and the description above is somewhat simplified. There were 3 groups of rats:
1 - Mozart
2 - Schoenberg
3 - Control (white noise)

The rats did indeed prefer the music that they were raised listening too. But Mozart was also noticeably more popular.

in Network Neutrality on alistair.pott
Politicians are letting net neutrality die because it suits them. It suits them because so far the telecoms have lobbied harder than the public. It's as simple as that.

I don't think that it is necessary to read too much into the motives behind the different stakeholders. Telecoms want more money, politicians want more power, and we want more internet! Everyone if pushing to get more of what they want.
