Since God is invisible and imaginary, someone has to do God's Holy Will and step in and rough up a few Athiests'. Of
course they never had the Nads to do it in the daylight to be recognized by their Holy Invisible God, so it was all for naught....lol

Believe me there would be alot more drive by beatings and shootings if Athiests were allowed to express themselves openly in public, without ridicule or judgement from Christoids.

This plainly shows the power of a lie, a lie written on papryus and ox blood over 2000 years ago. People want to bathe and soak themselves in a lie, a lie of self-righteous filth, to be a crusader for their imaginary God and Jesus, that one day they will recieve a Heavenly reward, a Great Mansion in the Sky, as promised by the prophets, surely they would not have told a lie? Surely the Bible is the absolute pure word of God and none other. There cannot be one mistake or misspelling in the Bible since it is directly the written word of God. Since God is not the Author of Confusion, there can be no disagreements, nor any other interpretation, nor other religious sects, or demoninations, or religious faiths. The Bible is self-explanatory for all who want to believe. The Bible is a piece of trash that should have long, long ago been discarded.

Re: Culpeper minister faces sex charges - ExChristian.Net - News and Opinion

I can't understand why you all act surprised when the church members keep suporting this sexual pervert.

I live near Charlotte, NC, I came through the old run down PTL Club, just to look at the billions spent and waisted there, and there were people in campers and tents waiting, for their messiah, Jim Bakker to get out of prison and save them, he had been in prison for over 5 years.

Look at the Jim Jones, David Karesh, Jimmy Sawggart, Benny Hinn, Tom Tewell, Billy Graham, Jerry Fatass, Pat Roberson, Kenneth Copeland, Arnold Murry, Joyce Myer, etc etc etc etc.

What man or woman can represent an imaginary god?

Can they walk on water? In every case I can think of, the answer is surely that the outcome would have been exactly the same. The implication of their claims is that for example, the patient who survives a serious operation only does so because of the power of prayer. The idea that medical science and the skill of the doctors saved them doesn't get a look in. If, as sometimes happens, medical advancements and doctors' skill are claimed to be the answer to prayer themselves, then I can't' help wondering why God seems to be getting progressively better at saving the sick (and thus answering prayer) as time goes on. What did he have against kids with smallpox 100 years ago to let them die when now that disease has been completely eradicated?

A Christian friend of mine lost an unborn baby at 7 months despite many fervent prayers. I have yet to hear anyone explain this away by saying that it was God's will but presumably that is the only logical position for those who claim that *everything* is God's will. I would love to hear a Christian defence of a God who would apparently kill the previously healthy unborn baby of devout Christian parents.

Isn't it convenient that all the really dramatic "undeniable" answers to prayer occurred thousands of years ago?

Re: Bending The Rules

thanks for the "tip", im blaming my parents for now never being able to cheat in a bike race !! looking forward to todays crit, hope the rain holds out and darren or dean can bring home the spoils of war

Re: Dramatic Cycling Crashes

video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlc-s7eI5Cg

Re: Not ready to be nice - ExChristian.Net - Articles

Dano said, God designed us in such a way that when we encountered other cultures,

You keep mentioning this god, well show us this god you're so damned sure that exists.

We're waiting....

Re: Not ready to be nice - ExChristian.Net - Articles

Belinda Stevens, Right Thinker (Goldie) said...
Ben, quit ragging on my brothers in sisters in Christ Jesus. We have the same problem with determining which scriptures are God-breathed.

I was interested to read that because the version of the Bible that I'm most familiar with (the NIV) says:

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching..."

A subtle difference from the version you quoted but a significant one. Yours implies that not all scripture is God-breathed but the NIV implies it is. Thus, according to that translation there's no difficulty in determining which scriptures come from God because they all do. (I'm tempted to say even the ones that contradict the other ones!)

Strangely, I did a Google search for the phrase "All scripture that is God-breathed" and it returned precisely 7 results, all from posts in blogs and forums. A search for the phrase "All scripture is God-breathed" on the other hand returned 65,800 results. On checking a dozen different versions of that verse at biblegateway.com, only one - the American Standard Version - gives your version of the quote whereas all the others (even the New American Standard version) agree with the NIV.

If the NIV and the others are right (assuming you put any faith in the Bible at all), at least it would remove the problem of determining which scriptures are God-breathed and which aren't. Was there a particular reason you quoted a version that seems to be the only one that translates that verse in the way you describe? I'm just curious.

Re: Small but Powerful - ExChristian.Net - Articles

Hmm you're right...that meaning had gone completely over my head. In my defence (hehe), I have been and still am a member of a fairly fundamentalist church where every word of the Bible is officially considered to be divinely inspired and therefore useful for teaching etc as that verse implies. However, I've had a lot of long standing issues with this and many other teachings of the church although I've only recently become a regular visitor to this site, which I find very useful and informative btw. Anyway, I had never stopped to think that the logical extension of that particular doctrine is that it would mean that Paul was writing about his own letters and others which may not even have been written yet at that time. I know that the books of the Bible weren't collected together in their current form until hundreds of years after Jesus' death and I've always questioned why certain things were considered divine and were therefore included while certain other things weren't. It all seems a bit too convenient. I just never made the connection with that particular verse in 2nd Timothy.

I'm still fairly new to this skeptic business but I like to think I'm learning all the time.

Re: A Change Will Do You Good - ExChristian.Net - Articles

We are nothing more than a advanced specie of ape on a very average planet in orbit around a very average star........ (See info below
> from CBS/48 Hours website synopsis)
>
> The program makes a bizarre claim that the 44-year old actor's beliefs
> are responsible for the tragic death of one of the church's followers, a
> mother who was stabbed to death by her deranged son.
>
> 48 Hours has interviewed critics of Scientology claiming the church
> stopped the killer from getting psychiatric drugs which could have
> prevented the stabbing.
>
> But CBS/48 Hours bosses have failed to declare that they are largely
> funded by the pharmaceutical industry which makes the drugs in question
> - and the producer's families made a fortune from owning psychiatric
> hospitals, two very clear conflicts of interest undisclosed by CBS.
>
> CBS, which produces 48 Hours, is owned by media magnate Sumner Redstone
> who recently fell out with Cruise over his movie career. Several CBS
> executives have been accused of hiding the conflicts of interest and of
> being unfairly biased against the Mission Impossible star and his
> religion.
>
> CBS earned a staggering $592 million dollars in 2005 from advertising
> pharmaceuticals, a significant proportion of which are anti-depressants
> and psychotropic drugs. (Source TNS Media Intelligence)
>
> In addition, an executive producer on the show has a family history
> steeped in psychiatry. Susan Zirinsky's parents built, owned and
> operated Gracie Square Hospital, one of the largest privately owned
> psychiatric hospitals in the United States, which they later sold for
> over $25 million. Susan Zirinsky's mother Cynthia Zirinsky still sits on
> the board of directors for Gracie Square and the Mental Health
> Association of New York which she personally founded. Susan Zirinsky's
> husband Joseph Peyronnin also sits on the board and is an active
> advocate for the Mental Health Association of New York giving tens of
> thousands of dollars in support and receiving awards from the
> organization.
>
> Now they run the Zirinsky Mood Disorders Center at Beth Israel Medical
> Center in New York. Many have criticized the show and CBS for not being
> impartial.
>
> The news channel is risking another 'Rathergate' scandal with its
> flagship 48 Hours program. In September 2004 CBS was disgraced when
> documents criticizing President George Bush's military record were shown
> to be false. The discredited network was forced to apologize for the
> accusation and many employees were fired.
>
> This week's show revolves around the case of Jeremy Perkins, a psychotic
> who brutally stabbed his mother Eli to death in March 2003. The Perkins'
> are Scientologists and critics say that they were against psychiatry and
> psychiatric treatment.
>
> It is likely that the program will conclude that Eli's death
> could have been avoided if they were not Scientologists. The
> broadcast will also feature Tom Cruise's comments on the
> pharmaceutical and psychiatric industry from the NBC morning
> program broadcast last year. However Cruise made his outspoken
> comments a full two years after the Perkins murder.
>
> A second producer on the show named Miguel Sancho is also
> related to an esteemed psychiatrist, Dr Lobis, who is based in
> Boston via his sister. Dr. Lobis was the psychiatrist in
> charge of releasing a young mental patient who killed his
> parents with a baseball bat the day after his release. Both
> refused to comment on the potential conflict of interest.
>
> For CBS/48 Hours to say or convey that this tragedy was
> avoidable by putting the subject on psychotropic medications
> is simply not true and irresponsible, current studies of these
> medications clearly show patients taking psychotropic drugs
> can become extremely violent and suicidal, there is no way and
> no psychiatrist or test that can predict the behavior of a
> person having a psychotic episode. The US prisons are filled
> with people that have committed violent acts and homicides
> while on these psychotropic medications or under the care of
> a psychiatrist.
>
> When the comparisons between the Rathergate story and their
> latest show were pointed out, again CBS refused to comment. A
> spokesman said: "Our programs don't stand in favor of any
> particular side. "Our job is to try and present all sides.
> This is what we do. So we don't editorialize. That's not what
> we do. That's not our job."

Re: New Kanye West – Anyway

most of these songs are just bad versions of SA-RA
i dig this beat, but Kanye should maybe have someone else sing.

Re: A Plug for the Pub Gathering

I'm assuming that as a Bethel student you'll be enjoying a nice frosty glass of water at this gathering?

Re: DeLurking Week

Mark,

First: I don't disagree with the reasons you may or may not choose to not follow the policy. In fact, I have it on good authority that Dr. Eliason has said that if a seminary student or professor were in someone's company and were offered a drink by that person, it would be acceptable to accept the drink for that reason--our fellowship with one another is a witness for the Kingdom of God.

Here's where I have difficulty, and it's not necessarily with you or any one person in particular--like you, I know plenty of Bethel faculty, staff, and students who see drinking as a vestigial limb of our fundamentalist past, and I agree that this is the case, like many things that Bethel people still do (such as write Statements of Faith instead of Theses Papers): Is simply disregarding the policy--particularly since you and I and everyone else who works for or attends Bethel committed ourselves to it--being faithful to our consciences in the end? My conviction, like yours, is that drinking is not a big deal. My grandfather would probably not have been a Christian had it not been for the local Lutheran pastor coming over to have a beer with him once in a while on hot days. But my conviction is also that if I make a promise, even if I think the reasons for doing so are patently silly in my (and others') estimation, that promise ought to be worth something. You, me, and everyone else who is employed by or educated at Bethel knew this was the policy when we signed on, and we committed ourselves to it. I can't speak for you, but I do not think much of my own personal integrity because of the ways I've broken this commitment I made, even though I've never thought it was a sensible policy.

I've only had a few discussions with Bethel folks about this issue, but it seems like every time the people who think the policy on drinking ought to be lifted think that making a commitment to follow that policy shouldn't count because its antiquated. If we are really so unhappy with that policy, but are unwilling or unable to make change in the institutional stance, the only two options that maintain our integrity is to leave that institution or follow it. My postmodern self hates making such strict black and white categories like that, but is there any other option? How do you rationalize it to yourself? I've tried, and I can't. (And I've been making a slow exodus for six months now.)

I don't judge you, and I hope you won't judge me.

Re: Gareth Jones » Blog Archive » Am I online?

Pfft - just get a proper ISP :-)

Jon and I get text messages from Andrews and Arnold when our connections go down and come back, together with (in the latter message) total downtime. We went there intending to purchase a new Grand Cherokee this past Saturday, but then she saw the Caravans. I've been driving Jeeps for 25 years now but had never bought a Dodge before so I told the Salesman I needed to go home and do some research and that we would be back in less than a week. He gave us no pressure whatsoever and gave us his work hours for the coming week.

We went back this AM and bought the Caravan at a very good price. I had checked the trade in value of her 2000 Cherokee Sport and I figured that was going to be the bone of contention but much to my surprise I got what I considered to be a very fair offer and accepted it.

I then knew the next potential problem was going to be in finance where the finance manger would certainly try to sell us on some very expensive extended warranty. He did try, but I very nicely explained I wasn't interested and he said OK and moved on. We went in already pre-approved via my wifes credit union for a loan and the finance manager offered us a better rate without knowing what rate we already had.

I can only speak for myself but I found the whole experience to be totally stressless and actually quite pleasant compared to the many other times I've bought new cars. Everyone was very nice to us and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to this dealership again.

Re: Another Look at Why Harold Ford Jr Lost - the Sister Vote

What ever happened to voting for a candidate because of his MERITS instead of who he dates??

Re: SoulCalibur: The Movie

Hey, i was just surfing to see if anyone had any "what if soulcalibur was a movie?" suggestions, when i hear that it may finally, actually happen! its about time! This sums up my feelings as accurately as any I've read on here.

I've been in the church pretty much all my life but have now come to the point where I've acknowledged to myself (and a few select others) that all the seemingly contradictory bits of the Bible really are contradictory. It seems that when faced with these apparent contradictions, the typical Christian has 2 choices: either jump through a multitude of hoops in order to come up with some improbable explanation that makes them all disappear OR accept that the Bible is flawed and should not be seen as a source of divine wisdom which must be obeyed no matter what. Unfortunately there are many who find it easy to brush aside all the logical problems of belief in the biblical God and choose the first option. I wonder...if Christianity was an insignificant religion with just a handful of followers, would they be so quick to convince themselves it's true? I doubt it somehow. It seems that for a lot of people, sheer weight of numbers is a big factor when it comes to choosing a belief.

Re: From Minister to Honest Doubter: Why I Changed My Mind - ExChristian.Net - Articles

I really don't care to read his book. One person asked why he should be released from duty if he did repent. Well he should be released because he has lost his influence for good. How would anyone look up to him with respect. It's a sad day in the church and outsiders will use this in an accusatory way. But look at any religious group and you will find a few black sheep. I think such demands are selfish and violent.

I have seen many islamic cartoons blaming jews, some of them originally published by nazis.

So, why are you telling that muslims don´t blame others? You are. You are accusing western culture now and then and now you are demanding that we should think like you.

We will never think like muslims and there will always be people around the world that write and draw things that are not so nice.

I think you and all people should grow up and tolerate others and their opinions. Although they are not muslims. In the other case, you can´t live in peace with the rest of the world.

Many people have thousands of reasons to act violently against muslims. Most of them don´t because it is immature and wrong. So, why are you acting like immature and wrong person?

Re: Four Day (!) Have been a big fan of BINS for some considerable time. Oh those heady days of 1997.

Sometime ago I mentioned that we get the government we deserve. We live in a time when accidents don't happen where someone is to blame and I believe that the government are pandering to that.

The thing is that it starts with children, parents think there brats are perfect and teachers are powerless. When I was a lad if I was accused of something my parents would assume I'd done it. Nowadays? There little Chantelle or Darren is a little angel.

You often hear "what about the victim". Well until guilt is proved the accused is innocent. I'm pretty certain that families want justice.

I've never voted Conservative in my life. I'd consider a Ken Clarke led party but Cameron and his ilk seem very Blairite to me.

I'm not sure what to make of Brown, I imagine he is cut from a similar cloth to Blair whatever might be said. He has upset the left by his pro-Nuclear stance.

Seems like thequacksoflife will be urging you to vote Lib Dem.

Re: Of Lions and Donkeys

front page of the Sunday Express, End of the World, uh methinks not

Re: 20 Comments Day

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

that is so not fair. Chick Yuill has quipped on a few occasions that he would not mind the appointment of TSCC ("Territorial Small Corps Closer").

If God is not calling forward and raising up individuals to serve in today's Army, should we be taking that as a message to prayerfuly consider and evaluate what is behind the numbers? Are we willing to adjust the demand side of Army economics, even if that means it appears we are "shrinking" on paper?

Just things to think about...

Re: More Candidates

Interesting to know, and glad to hear it… Forgive me then.. When you mentioned that “in the economy of officers, we need more help” followed by a quantification on necessary maintenance means, I got the impression that our “supply” (SFOT enrollment) was not meeting the “demand” (existing Army appointments).

So it sounds like from a pure numbers perspective, maintaining officer numbers for our present Army was not really the concern, but rather Kingdom expansion was at the heart of your battle cry. Agreed then.. logic would dictate that additional leaders are required.

I guess my concern is still that the numbers view should always be tempered by a detailed understanding of the efficacy of our ministry efforts across the territory, as well as an unshakable standard for candidacy. Surplus or deficit, I think keeping an open mind to reorganization and shifting of resources is critical to face the ongoing challenges of ministry in this mixed up Western world in which we live. Closing or consolidating corps / ministries in some areas might allow the means for opening creative ministry opportunities in others, or even in the same community – but with a different focus.

Therefore, under that model, the necessary officer demand might go up or down over time, but that may not be a direct correlation on the expansion or reduction of God’s kingdom either way. It sounds like we are on the same page in that.

In the wake of these kinds of conversations, and those on other blogs, I have been asking myself regularly: “Are we still a preferred vehicle for God to use in expanding His Kingdom?” – whether we are “traditional” or “non-traditional” or (my favorite and I hope is still characteristic of today’s Army) “traditionally non-traditional”. It’s a humbling question. I think we are, and I hope we are continually faithful enough to be used and of effective service to God for years to come.

Sorry for the long-winded response. Blessings on you!! We will continue to pray for you and all of our territorial leadership – you have a tough job, and you do it well! I would have thrown punches at him too. You don't dive at a guy's knees when your quarterback is going to take a knee or spike the ball. Everyone, including SD's D-line knew what was going to happen, so Olshansky did the sporting thing and just stood out of his stance only to have Nalen try and cheap shot him. Granted, Olshansky should be fined for fighting, but at least the whole country saw the bush league move by Denver's O-line. If I'm a D-lineman that still has to play Denver this season, i remember that and hit Nalen in the mouth everytime Jake goes to take a knee or spike it. That was such a weak play by Nalen...

Re: Broncos lose 2nd game in 5 days

I was listening to KOA before the game, and they were talking about Shanahan being affected by the Bubby -vs- Griese thing, and how he threw Griese in there too soon and that may have damaged the team for a few years. They said that really affected him this season cause he didn't want to do the same with Cutler. So I think that's why you had/have such controversy. Mike wants to start Cutler, but he's for lack of a better word, he's scared to!
Last night Plummer didn't do enough to save his job, but he didn't do enough to lose it either. The previous 10 games are where he will lose the job. I mean, even his "good" games -vs- Indy and Pitt were only 200-220 yard performances. When I hear that a QB is playing "great football" I expect to see more than 200 yards passing. The biggest thing was no interceptions. He had a fumble that led to an Indy TD, but other than that, he looked decent.
The big issued here is that Jake for the most part plays like a rookie, a bad rookie at that. So if you have a starter playing like a rookie, you might as well have your strong armed rookie in there! I think with Cutler, you will see Javon's numbers go up (cause he'll be able to hit him in stride) you'll see Rod's numbers go up (cause he'll be a good safety valve at WR) and you'll see Kircus's numbers go up cause he has chemistry with him from practicing with him all season long. You may even see Tony Scheffler active again as he has great chemistry with him as well!
Now as for the defense... Darrent Williams is getting torched. It has happend every single game all season long! Champ is champ, he'll shut down his guy, no questions asked. But that means that Williams is getting 95% of the passes thrown at him. They need to get out of that piece of crap cover 2 and start playing man/man with safety help to Williams side. I think you'd see more turnovers that way as the QB wouldn't be able to pick apart the soft spots in the zone. The only part of our D that I think isn't up to par is the line. We get ZERO pressure on the QB... sacks be damned, I'll take constant pressure over sacks 90% of the time. Which is why I think we were so good last year. The QB had no time to pick us apart, so they'd throw lots of out of bounds passes or picks. This year we have more sacks, but a whole lot less pressure, and that's giving the QB all day to pick us apart. I say unleash the blitz and tell our linemen that their job is on the line. If we can bench our QB, we can bench our linemen!

Re: Broncos lose 2nd game in 5 days

If we had any other coach besides Shanahan, we'd be 1-10 right now. Shanahan always and I mean ALWAYS gets the job done! Without him, we are nothing.
Our Defense is tired from always being on the field. We have no offense to get them rest. Once that happens, you cant blame them for being tired and then getting gashed on the ground/air.
Is Cutler the answer? Maybe... if he gets us a few more first downs per half, then you'll see our D become "great" again! They get rocked for 10-15 yard drives and then our offense goes 3 and out and they have to march right back on the field. Thats too much to ask of anyone! If the Bears/Ravens/Pats had to deal with that, they'd all be sub .500 teams right now! And all are known for having good defenses, but they are only good cause they have an offense that gives them rest so they can come back out and play at a high level!
I still believe in the Broncos. I still think we can make the playoffs. I think that we should put Cutler in now to get him some experience. I think we can beat any team in the playoffs except for Indy! Panic isn't here now, but it's about 1 loss away from being here. there WILL be a 10-6 team not making the playoffs.. and if we drop another game, we'll finish at best 11-5 which will likely be the cutoff for playoff teams... so we can ill afford to drop even 1 more game. And to make sure our D plays well, we need a change on offense to get them more rest. Like I heard weeks ago, nothing makes a defense great like a good offense!
And anyone thinking Elways couldn't pull off a win last night (as only like 2-3 idiots stated), you are fools and should be executed! you guys probably turned off the TV on a fair share of Broncos victories when we were trailing by 14+ points with 5 mins to go! Cutler could or couldn't be another Elway, but we wont know unless we give him a try!

Re: Cutler to add cannon, pluck to O

#33...
Although I agree to a degree, you are forgetting a few things. Last years AFC Championship game, Plummer had 4 turnovers and couldn't do anything but get in his own way. I know it's the steelers and I know they won the S.B., but Jake hasn't been the same since that game. He opened the season with 4 turnovers. The reason why the playcalling is the way it is, isn't because Gary is gone, it's because they know that if they put Plummer in a position to make big plays, he will ..... He just wont make them for our team! So Shanahan is forced to be ultra conservative. If you have a QB you cant trust to not fumble or throw INT's at the worst times, you start taking him out of the gameplan. And the crappy thing about that is then you become predictable and you get 9 man in the box defenses against you that slow your running game down and then you have to rely on the QB, and when we rely on Plummer, he throws picks and fumbles.
Like it was stated in an article today, they aren't asking Jay to be Marino....they are just asking him to outperform Plummer... which any rookie, and I do mean ANY rookie realistically could do!

Re: Cutler to add cannon, pluck to O

Plus, our D looks bad because they are tired! They had a bye week in week 4 and they have an offense that goes 3&out more often than not. Pile that all on, and you have a very worn out defense that cant stop anyone. If Cutler can pick up even 3-4 more first downs that Jake, the defense will get much needed rest and be able to start shutting teams down again!

Re: 01324609000

Kwik fit insurance

Re: 080724422984

080724422984 - Bertelsmann

Re: http://blog.inc.com/archives/2004/03/aligning_sales.html

Excellent article -- thank you for posting it!

Re: http://blog.inc.com/archives/2004/03/linux_vs_window.html

Not to expose myself as a Mac zealot right off the bat, but...

What about Windows vs. Apple?

When considering the Windows vs. Linux argument, the case for the Apple OS in any business (either partial implementation or full implementation) becomes very valid. The main deficiencies of Windows, in my opinion, are security and buggy programming (how many times did you restart your pc today? -- now be honest). With Linux, security is still an issue, but much less so than with Windows. My biggest complaint with Linux is is usability for anyone other than the IT department.

Enter Apple: Solid Unix core, an operating system that is years ahead of XP in functionality, elegance and stability (big time), extremely low maintenance, and more.

A few non-Apple biased articles on the matter:

http://www.osviews.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=822
http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/215
http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/AnchorDesk/4520-7297_16-5122766.html
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/perl/story/32837.html

Re: http://blog.inc.com/archives/2004/02/the_top_25_citi.html

I found the list extremely helpful. While I was surprised by some of the rankings, I was nonetheless kicked into gear and motivated to look for a new hometown for my businesses.

I would have liked to have seen a bit more detail involved in the rankings, though, as there is quite a bit more involved in choosing the best cities for business than what was touched on. Seemed to me like the rankings were based mostly on data, rather than an in-depth study of the entire business and social community.

Re: http://blog.inc.com/archives/2004/03/aarp_for_geny.html

Sounds interesting. It makes me queasy!

Clearly the company is simply trying to keep up with the market's need for a healthier-appearing menu. The sad thing is that pretty much anything coming out of such an establishment is going to have a startlingly high percentage of the recommended daily value of fat and calories... except perhaps a cup of water.

Read the fine print on all of the salads. Some of them are worse than the wrinkled fat-patties passed off as burgers.

Despite the fact that I rarely eat fast food, I have much more respect for a company like In-N-Out that keeps its menu simple, offers high-quality fast food (wait, is that an oxymoron?) and doesn't have an "oops I'm counting my calories" menu. Why? Because they know while there might be some profit in servicing every single possible segment of the population, they would much rather serve one, and do it extremely well.

McDonalds should get a clue and stick to burgers, super sized and all.

Re: http://blog.inc.com/archives/2004/08/tshirt_controve.html

Bess
Scientifically, life begins at conception. It was the change in Tana's personality that threw me off. I used to like Tana a lot with her nice personality. After last night episode, I can see how much she changed, or maybe that was the real Tana that we didn't know. I think I would have still supported Tana if she had lost the task but maintained a nice person, but ... not anymore. You go Kendra. Wow, this Kendra impressed me more and more after each episode. So for these people:

Understanding is not the same justifying.

However, understanding does give you the means to intervene and avoid repetition.

Furthermore, looking for the root cause or a single responsible party is a bit silly (but the article does not do this). In order for the piracy to take off, a whole set of conditions needed to be fulfilled. Overfishing was just one of these. However, if one of the conditions had not been fulfilled, the piracy would not have taken off. So in a way any party that could have prevented one of the conditions to get fulfilled is in a way responsible for the piracy.

Re: "Just 15 of the world's biggest ships may now emit as much pollution as all the world's 760m cars"

The sulphur content of car petrol became capped, so the sulphur was shifted to the ships fuel.

Re: Thieves Target Xof1 Solar Car Team in New Orleans

Not so smart to leave these kind of valuables inside a car.

Re: Win a Trip to South Africa From KEEN Footwear

Is this a paid advertisement?

Re: Wearable Carbon Credit Meter Tracks Your Monthly Transportation Allowance

I'm glad to see that so one is fooled by this carbon credit garbage. One would hope that Americans would be as concerned about their own companies polluting the American environment - just as they should be concerned about American companies polluting the environments of other countries.

Mounting campaigns targeted at foreigners while ignoring the effects that Americans have on people elsewhere is nothing short of hypocritical, breeds animosity and a reputation that America is a parochial, self interested and xenophobic. Would it be any less wrong if it was an American company polluting the lake? I’d hope not.

How about an American company polluting a foreign lake? Sure, I can see that it isn't as good as reducing your own carbon emissions, but If you can't reduce, then off-setting through abating elsewhere isn't such a bad move. They are a political party, and surely their campaign will require electricity, fuel etc. Buying carbon credits and reducing emissions elsewhere is better than nothing. To say that they should stop emitting all together would mean that they would cease to exist as a viable political organisation (at least in the immediate future until we, as a society, get better at being carbon neutral) and cease contributing to public debate, public policy and global change.

I may have missed something, so please point it out to me, but from my perspective, the question would be how would you not justify buying carbon credits?

Re: Get All Your Plugs in Reach with the Electric Table

...Or you could just not be lazy and turn the switch off at the socket when you're not using it. While I can see that making it easier for people to avoid phantom power might help alleviate the problem, I am concerned about promoting consumerism as a way of addressing a problem. Buying a second hand recycled table is preferable to buying a new one.

I wonder what the life-cycle analysis would be? How much embodied energy is there in this electric table compared to the phantom power that it might save? And if the table really does result in overall energy savings, then it might also be an idea to install a meter that tells you in real time how many watts the appliances are drawing.

It's a nice idea, but do we really need it?

Re: Get All Your Plugs in Reach with the Electric Table

"Most sockets outside the UK don't have switches".

Wow. I guess I just assumed that there were switches everywhere.

Which then begs the question: Why don't they?!? I presume it is some safety standard or something, but switches here seem not to have safety problems. Sure it is important, but wouldn't it be better for impoverished communities to earn/trade their way out of poverty than to be perpetually sustained on a drip feed of hand outs from richer countries.

Finally, Fair trade aims to do just that - trade fairly with those who can trade. Fair trade often doesn't work with the poorest of the poor because they aren't in a position to trade - just like most people in the developed world aren't merchants, many people in developing countries aren't primary producers of merchants. That is where charities and community development programs come in. But fair trade helps those who can trade stand on their own two feet, and from that perspective I think it is a good thing.

Re: Survey: Have You Dumped Your Polycarbonate Bottle?

I allways use a standard PET lemonade bottle, with a special drinking cap that screwed on it.

Re: The Rebirth of the Cool: 7 Innovations in Air Conditioning

@majortom: If you are in a moderate climate and the heat that you want to transport out of the building is mainly coming from humans and appliances you are right. But if you are in a warm climate most heat is coming from the warm air outside and from the solar radiation heating up the roof and the interior via the windows. In the latter case it is better to have small windows, window shades and well insulated walls.

Re: 5 Ways the NYT Science Columnist Distorts the Facts

Honestly, as a scientist, I think that this article is way too on the alarming side. The arguments that it uses are way too emotional, and reject Tierney just because he doesn't have the best citations (a fault of ALL newspaper articles).

As I've been able to find, there is very scant evidence for low level BPA exposure to be at all harmful, and bottles do not leak it in the high levels known to do damage. Despite the recent fervor, my own digging agrees with Tierny's assessment. The recent BPA scare is probably a little overblown, which isn't the worst thing, as erring on the side of less foreign chemicals is probably the safer option.

An earlier comment dealt with the cellphone issue. All of the current advisements are merely, with any link between cell phones and tumors being tenuous at best. Yet the author cites the recent hype, rather than the data.

As for the bags: obviously reusable bags are the best. Tierney is not the only one to claim that the plastic/paper issue isn't the simplest in the world though.

Re: Church Doesn't Want to be Saved; Brutalism Goes To Court

Turn it into a hall for indoor and outdoor rock climbing!

Re: Mike Turner's Do-It-Yourself 95 MPG AeroCivic (Slideshow)

There could be a market for more slick looking DIY packets.

Re: \"Just 15 of the world's biggest ships may now emit as much pollution as all the world's 760m cars\"

I put this idea in with all the others that allow taxpayers and politicians alike to think they can have their cake and eat it too. Fund sweeps, borrowing, cigarette taxes, gambling, etc all fall into this category. They are band-aid solutions! Unfortunately, I did a big stupid a few months back, and am recovering from shoulder surgery. If you're interested, the link to my blog is in the user name of my post. I'm out of BJJ until at least July; the only thing I'm doing right now is teaching TKD.

The Hapkido that I practice is highly influenced by judo, but not enough for us to work on newaza there; it would be interesting to get a better idea of the different philosophies.

Re: http://www.mokurendojo.com/2009/02/use-of-space-in-judo-and-bjj.html

I'm a BJJ blue belt (though not a particularly good one), and I have only limited insight. Usually, if you're on the defensive, you're trying to create space. If you're attacking, you'll be trying to avoid space. Then, some BJJ practitioners prefer a fast-and-loose game, which leads to more space, even on offense.

I've rolled with some guys who had more Judo than BJJ experience, and there definitely are stylistic differences. In BJJ, holding a guy down isn't really a goal unless you are going for a submission. On the other hand, I've been stuck in a really good Kesa Getame at times, and boy is that a miserable position to try to escape from.

BTW, love your blog. :)

Re: http://thecornishdemocrat.blogspot.com/2009/03/st-pirans-day-holiday.html

Which just goes to show that you can never rely on the council to get behind a good idea. Raiding isn't great, but it does provide some epic encounters and you get a lot of mileage out of a small amount of content (while you build an expansion) - I realize many many people don't like to raid but outside of pvp and raiding, the only other alternative is new content - and you simply can't add it as fast as players can chew it up. WOWs endgame is not perfect but no game's is.

2: The key for LOTR is not what it does or does not copy - the key is that it be FUN. We can argue about WOW endgame but 1-59 is FUN. I played DDO and it was NOT fun. Archlord beta is not much fun. EQ2 was not much fun. If LOTR is fun and polished it should be ok. If not it won't be, regardless of what ideas it is or isn't recycling.

Pete

Re: AppsForSale mit Oster-Rabatt-Aktion

Auf www.easterappsales.com wird auch ne Osteraktion mit günstigeren Apps gefahren!

Re: http://www.dailyautocad.com/2007/05/annotation-objects-in-autocad-2008-3.html

I have been using annotative dimension styles and text for some time, but only just recently attempted to use an annotative block, to conserve print size of height quote throughout the various viewport scales. I read the manual and the various forums and I have followed the directions scrupolously. I created my block in model space scale 1:1 and assigned the various scales to which I want it printed. The problem is that when I add annotative scales (1:20, 1:50), it makes the block bigger, not smaller! (as I increase drawing scale, the drawing gets bigger, and therefore the block, to remain the same print size, has to become relatively smaller) In fact, as I move from one scale to another in the viewports, the block gets HUGE! Why is this? I have not had similar problems with annotative dimensions and text.

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/10/giveaway-ipod-touch.html

Oh yeah, 100% cool contest!!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/10/giveaway-ipod-touch.html

very K-O-O-L prize, hope I win!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/10/giveaway-ipod-touch.html

What a great contest and what a COOL prize!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/10/giveaway-michael-palin-full-circle.html

I'm g-g-g-going to k-k-k-kill you O-O-Otto!
(Michael Palin to Kevin Kline in "A Fish Called Wanda")

Please enter me in your giveaway - cheers!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/10/giveaway-michael-palin-hemingway.html

Michael Palin always throws in a couple of Pythonesque jokes in his travel shows... hilarious AND interesting!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/09/giveaway-playstation-3.html

Hope I win!!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/09/giveaway-playstation-3.html

Found another clue!!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/09/giveaway-playstation-3.html

Very nice prize!!

Re: http://www.weekinrewind.com/2008/02/get-smart-trailers-we-have-two-and-one.html

I can't wait!!

Re: OTB 1.1.2 iPhone unlock: Progress Report

No need to erase people's comments asking for progress reports.
