Maybe nobody in the current administration will show up in St. Paul but at least the demonstrators are not gonna be sequestered in an area away from the event.
Both shows will be major popcorn events for me! ;-)

in The Colorado Independent » Senate candidate Bob Schaffer’s son facing possible penalties over racist Facebook propaganda on The Colorado IndependentI saw the crap that he had posted and it simply disgusts me. He obviously knew better and being the son of a possible (doubtful) senate candidate he also knew that his actions would have consequences.
He ignored it and so it is time for sonny boy to face the music.
Mom and dad cannot really do much more than cancel the family credit card and boot the punk kid outta the house.

in The Colorado Independent » In the high country, injured workers are dumped; subcontractors dodge workers’ comp claims on The Colorado IndependentHeidi.
"Why do people always blame the illegal workers for having the audacity to work here without work permits?"
So exactly which part of
"...illegal workers for having the audacity to work here without work permits?"
are you having problems with?
Are you saying that as long as they are good illegal workers, that is somehow ok and that they should be ignored by our laws?
They are illegal.
That means that they are already law breakers here. No matter how good they are while they are here illegally.
Is this some concept that is lost in the translation somehow?
I'm guessing that if they were here legally, they would have filed and received the proper workers compensation paperwork don't you?
Don't misunderstand my position here as the prime contractor is just as culpable if not moreso for their actions of actually hiring the illegal worker in the first place. These contractors should have their license to work revoked for such a foolish and dangerous act.
If anyones first act in entering this country is an illegal one, I have absolutely no compassion for whatever happens to them. Their selfish act placed them in a position of having to skirt the law for their entire time that they are in this country.
If they simply played by the rules to begin with. You know, the same rules that all of us are obliged to follow, they would not ever have to constantly be on the run from the law.

in Colorado’s top employers don’t always pay stellar wages on The Colorado Independent'Information from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics showed in 2007 that retail salespersons and cashiers made an average of $21,160 to $25,600 a year.'
And please tell me and everyone else where is the poverty line at these days?
Just so you do not have to look it up:
For a Family of 5 the 2008 %100 poverty reference is $24,800.
http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/in...
Typically any and all supermarkets have always paid the minimum amount to their employees. Why is this news anymore?
Try comparing wage shortcomings against something that maybe makes a better argument. Supermarkets, including that evil Wal-Mart, really are not a gauge that is worth the time to report on. Do you think that in 10 years time this will change somehow? Not so much.......
'...union protections' Isn't that an oxymoron?

in McCain’s chances may have hit a new Nader on The Colorado IndependentAnd the place that he ended up working at, (ACLU) is not on the top 10 lists of well like extablishments on the right.
Between the two of them they will syphon off some votes from the respective two parties, but not enough to 'Perot' anyone.
So, Bob Barr becomes even less significant than Ross Perot from where I see it.

in Editor’s Note on The Colorado IndependentI'm nobody at all when it comes to the political machine in Colorado or anywhere else for that matter. I'm just someone that decided to see how the process worked and became a delegate for my district here in El Paso County.
I just liked the anonymity of being able to post and not having to register. I understand that brings a certain abuse to that ability and I imagine the process was changes as a result of some dork messing it up for the rest of us.

in The Colorado Independent » Mountain Resorts Struggle With Labor Shortages as Immigrant Crackdown Continues on The Colorado Independent
Why is this simple concept so hard for liberals to grasp?
Come here legally, enjoy the benifits of what the U.S. has to offer.
Come here illegally, go back home and come here legally.
It really is as simple as that......oh, yes it is.
"Instead of ignoring or condemning the issue, come up with ways to create a welcoming environment for the immigrant community," Marquez said. "How can we make them feel part of our neighborhoods and society and not be hiding and afraid?..."
Enter the U.S. through the proper channels and they are welcomed into the environment and they HAVE NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF.
Come in the U.S. by illegal means and they never will feel welcomed and they place themselves in constant fear. Why, because they come into this country already breaking the law.
The illegal immigrant places themselves on the wrong side of the law simply by "doing it wrong!!!!" Right or wrong, legal or illegal, don't break the laws or break the laws. Simple choices dictate the outcome of their actions.
Come into this country legally and "Bob's you're uncle". Don't play by the rules, come into this country illegally and suffer the consequences of your actions. Simple as that.

Us GOP'ers are in a complete frenzy and are in total "PANIC MODE" WOE IS US..... Yeah, Whatever.
"...they'll stop at nothing." You make me chortle.
In fact, I want a ticket and some really good popcorn. I wanna go to the Democratic Convention up in Denver later this year.
It is going to make for some really classical theater when Both Hill and Barry go into the convenion pulling on that nomination rope.
The backroom deals and the handwringing, and cavorting is going to be most excellent theater.
I WANT A FRONT ROW SEAT!!!!!!

A person can only take so much for so long and I, for one, have seen and heard enough from Mr. Bruce.
He was much more fun to watch when he was getting under Sallie Clark's skin.

I cannot continue my support of Mr. Bruce and that became evident pretty much the day he took office. Way too many foolish acts by a man that knows better and should act accordingly.
Mark Waller looks to be a better fit at the state level and he will have my full support. I think he will better represent me at the state level and look forward to helping him in his bid for the position.
