Ohh damn wait I think I'm going to have to get that for you. Wait right there! Because I think you're not going to comprehend if I write it down. A little slow today?

North America is a continent [2] in the Earth's northern hemisphere and (chiefly) western hemisphere. It is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by the North Atlantic Ocean, on the southeast by the Caribbean Sea, and on the south and west by the North Pacific Ocean; South America lies to the southeast. It covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 sq mi), about 4.8% of the planet's surface or about 16.5% of its land area. As of July 2007, its population was estimated at nearly 524 million people. It is the third-largest continent in area, following Asia and Africa, and is fourth in population after Asia, Africa, and Europe. North America and South America are collectively known as the Americas.

North America - Antigua and Barbuda / The Bahamas / Barbados /Belize /Canada /Costa Rica /Cuba /Dominica /Dominican Republic /El Salvador /Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) /Grenada Guatemala /Haiti /Honduras /Jamaica /Mexico Nicaragua /Panama /Saint Kitts and Nevis /Saint Lucia /Saint Vincent and the Grenadines / Trinidad and Tobago / United States of America
I'm not talking about US citizens and neither did you in your previous post. Whether usage of America or the Americas is preferred, American is a self-referential term for many people living in the Americas.
Latin Americans consider everyone in the Americas to be americanos. Use of the word to refer specifically to U.S. citizens may be seen as ignorant, arrogant, incorrect, or even self-serving depending on the context. The same sentiments may apply to the use of the word American in English.
The Diccionario de la Lengua Española (Dictionary of the Spanish Language) published by the Real Academia Española (Royal Spanish Academy), defines estadounidense (United Stater) as "someone or something from or relating to the United States". This is by far the most common way for Spaniards to refer to U.S. nationals. People originating from, or who have lived in, the Western Hemisphere may be called americanos.

But the use of americano to refer exclusively to inhabitants of the United States should be avoided; this corrupt use is due to the fact that U.S. citizens often shorten the name to América (in English, without an accent mark) to refer to their country. One should not forget América is the name of the entire continent and all who inhabit it are Americans.

Re: Many of Manny's local countrymen riled by trade of Red Sox slugger

Oh please shut up! I was breaking my head trying to figure out how to smuggle an iPhone from US. And look what happened: no contract iPhone in Canada!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya, I got the new 16GB 3GS! It's smokin'! The speakout sim works beautifully as well (took a while to activate though, which had me worried). BE AWARE when buying a no contract phone from Rogers WITHOUT a Rogers wireless account: NO REFUND/RETURN/WARRANTY. That's fine with me since this is an Apple product, which is still under Apple's 1 year warranty :)

Thanks for this website. It convinced me to get the iPhone (even though i'll live on the street for a month, lol).

Cheers

Re: Using an iPhone on a Pay as You Go plan in Canada

Just wanted to give people a follow up on my money saving scheme involving an iPhone 3GS (I know, sounds like an oxymoron...). I did dish out $800 on the 16GB 3GS (that's after taxes and no way of returning it back to Rogers because I didn't activate the phone thru them) + the OtterBox case for $80 (Im rough on phones). I canceled my land line, $30/month, which would have been ~ $1000/3years. Like most people, I have internet at home and have set up a secure wireless network so I can browse teh internets on my netbook and the iPhone anywhere at home. I signed up for Skype's unlimited calling in US/Canada for $2.95/month or you can sign up for a year for $30! (much better than $30/month with Robbers) and enjoy Skype calls from home.

Some simple arithmetic:
1) savings by kicking Robbers to the curb: $1000
2) bought iPhone for $800 and Otter case for ~$100 = $900
3) spent money on Skype service for 3 years (at least until GoogleVoice comes along): ~$100
Difference = $0 (all rough estimates, but basically, it pays off to kick one of the big boys out of your life).

With Skype, if you sign up for a plan like mine (you can cancel anytime), you can forward your calls from Skype to any landline/mobile for free. This means that I stay logged in at home all the time, so when someone Skypes me and I dont answer, the call is forwarded to my iPhone while Im on the road (SpeakOut charges of 25 cents/min kick in)!! Confused me the first time some1 Skyped me while I was driving (shows up on mobile as "unknown").

Also, Skype gives you free voice mail, but SpeakOut already gives this option free of charge.

Anyway, by canceling my landline with Rogers and NOT signing up for one of their outrageous iPhone plans (thus saving upwards of $2000/3yrs) AND by using Skype I have almost everything I need, and still saving money.

Now if only GoogleVoice came though with that invite, I won't even need Skype to call free anywhere in the world. Its coming real soon :)

Hope this helps some.
Let's hear how you are saving and still enjoying your new toy.

PS I did neglect to mention that I spend roughly $200/year on SpeakOut, but this is not a back breaker since Robbers would have been much more expensive.

Mister

Re: Using an iPhone on a Pay as You Go plan in Canada

Hey JD. In fact sms from Skype works just fine. When i use Skype to call mobiles and landlines, I have it set up so my Speakout number shows up. There is a step you go through once you are set up for the unlimited calling (that's the monthly subscription, not the pay as you go option, which in my opinion is a waste). I simply typed in my cell number, then had Skype send me a SMS with a confirmation code, which I then punched in in Skype, I think.

From memory, I dont think I received a 2nd message from Skype. I only received 1 sms from Skype from +99999 number giving me a confirmation code. I thought there was supposed to be a 2nd one confirming the call forwarding, but no, that was the only sms I got from them. Try it again, maybe the server had a brain fart...

Hope this helps
Mister

Re: Using an iPhone on a Pay as You Go plan in Canada

Hi canooky. To be honest, I am not sure whether my iPhone is unlocked or just locked to Rogers given that I only had access to my SO sim. The way I activated it was by telling the Rogers rep my SO number (They wanted a Rogers number, any number, but as I no longer had my Rogers landline, I only had the SO # available). They used that pretty much.

As for unlocked phone, I highly doubt that Rogers would be selling completely unlocked phones anyway given their contract with Apple. Not sure whether you can buy a completely unlocked iPhone anywhere in North America.

My iPhone is jailbroken and if needed, I'll unlock it myself using the dev-team's tools (pwnage tool, redsnow, yellowsnow or whichever is the newest). Anyway, if you are seriously hesitant about this, buy the SO phone 1st. Once you have the courage to fork over $800, activate it using the SO number.

TIP: I noticed that after doing the activation using the SO #, my GCalendar SMSes are now free! Previously, to send an SMS reminder to ur celly, it deducted 5cents. Now it is free for some reason. Probably due to activating the SO# with Rogers' phone.

Cheers

Re: Using an iPhone on a Pay as You Go plan in Canada

Hey JD. Just following up. Did you get sms to work properly?

The one downside of Skype is that sms is not as cheap as SpeakOut's: it's $0.126, basically 13cents per text (SpeakOut is 5 cents).

The only time I used Skype SMS was during the call-forwarding activation. I wouldn't use it to Skype otherwise.

Wait for GoogleVoice to get to Canada, and then you'll enjoy some free SMS. To preview the service, set up your google calendar to send you an SMS reminder. It is free for me. :)

Re: GilroyDispatch.com | School gangs up on gangs

here, how about la migra and you go up the next mexican family and tell them that. make sure to also mention that you believe its the mexican who are the sole responsible people for these fights in gilroy, and at the high school. also dont consider the fact that more black people have came to gilroy, thus increasing crime. also dont mention that many caucasians have lost their jobs and have gotten pretty depressed and therefore white crime and burglary has also gone up. but of course, it's all the mexicans fault.

Re: Shave It or Save It?

I am a guy. But then again there my not be enough room at Badlandz with the way the PSP has grown.

I also think the PSP needs to set a team limit and stick to it , if you don't get in time then you don't get to play.

Re: Hacks to Beat Rapidshare Download Limits and Waiting Time | Internet | Tech-Recipes

its a lot of money idiot!!!
not actualy paying for 3 days but if u can save it by downloading extra few hours,
it's worth it!

Re: iPhone: How to Create Free Ringtones | Apple iPhone | Tech-Recipes

I used the suggestion I found on another forum: USE GARAGEBAND. most of you should have this. Open Media, find the song you like and drag it into Garageband, select Share, Save Ringtone to iTunes. If song is longer than 40 seconds, it will warn you that you need to trim it (opens a scale that sets proper ringtone length). Trim it, do the Share steps again, and bam! you have a new ringtone that is the right size.

iTunes 8.2, by the way

pz

Re: LaJollaLight.com | La Jolla residents are blessed

I live in Mosman, Sydney, Australia and wish, every day, that I was in La Jolla instead!

Re: How to boost the mic volume on your Realtek audio codec

Man....I love you. Bet no one thought about that... especially John C.Mellencamp.

Re: LyfeBank.com - The Future Of Healthcare | Visit lyfebank.com

check this out http://musicaevideoclips.blogspot.com

Re: Social Life and Blog ?

read me la then, i got more pictures, wuching. hehe

Re: Private: How to put duct tape over the Facebook sidebar

I dont have any people u may know there. u click on X a few times and then they don't appear anymore. Which hurts me to say…

Worst. Cast. Ever. What is Mila Kunis doing in this movie? She’s cute and talented, but doesn’t have the edge to be Payne’s sidekick/love interest.

Actuallly if you read the script it sucked hardcore btw, mila kunis dies near the end. If I'm not mistaken this is similar to how it was done in the Prophet's time when the masjid was just one big open compound. I also saw this at a Bosnian masjid I went to recently and thought it worked very well. After prayers everyone interacted and I felt a real sense of community amongst them. Just to clarify this position is strictly for a western masjid context - other parts of the world with differing cultures will need to be examined seperately (in the spirit of the universal nature of Islam).

Regarding his/her other comments, I think as muslims, we shouldn't take this negatively. A person's opinions are reflective of what they have seen with their eyes and heard with their ears. These comments should help revitalize us in our lifelong quest at being great muslims. We as muslims were once at the forefront of science, philosophical thinking, social enterprise, civil rights, trade&travel, literature, and the arts. When we return back to this position, views like Infidelia's (however valid or invalid), will completely disappear and be replaced instead with affinity and admiration of islam.

One only needs to look at how Christianity is perceived outside of the Christian-world to see an example of this - in Singapore, amongst its converts, it is associated with being progressive, modern, and sophisticated. They see the wealth and development of majority Christian countries (though these countries have long seperated Church & State) and make positive associations with the religion itself even before they have studied it! As rational the argument that Islam (the religion) and Muslims (its adherents) are two seperate entities not to mixed in judgement, bottom line is this: a religion is marketed through the actions of its followers.

Infidelia, know that right now there are many muslims making great contributions to humanity... unfortunately the negative elements seem to be taking all the media spotlight! And know that there are plenty more muslims, with love of all God's creation, and pure intentions in their hearts to advance the lives of all Earth's people... exactly as our religion commands of us.

Happy and blessed Ramadan to everyone!

Re: Facebook: Danger to Israeli Security?

Egypt frees Facebook activist
http://www.metimes.com/Politics/2008/04/23/egyp...

Re: Is Dubai helping ethnic cleansing in Palestine?

Dubai begins to comply with calls to boycott settlement financier
http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article9500.shtml

Re: USOC Launching Olympics Channel With Comcast; IOC Not Happy About The Name

Well maybe if NBC would learn to properly cover sports, especially Track and Field, there wouldn't be a need to create other sports channels.

Re: Ron Paul Nuts: Brownshirting Jerks

Hi, first time reader.

I was looking for information on Fred Thompson and I came across this blog. There is no degree of blind support here for Fred Thompson, he appears to have much to offer as compared to the other candidates, but there is certainly no blind loyalty nor is this by any stretch of the imagination an Elect Fred Blog.[/quote]

You are right, I must be illiterate. I see a button on the right hand menu and 15 more in the comment section saying "I'm With Fred-Contribute Now", and illiterate me assumes the blog supports Thompson.

Us illiterates just get confused by pretty pictures, that's all.

Thanks for setting me straight.
