ThankyouThankyouThankyou! I agree the movie isn't that great (except for the writhing on the table scene) and Stephen Baldwin is always questionable, but I love the soundtrack! And i bought it on CD as well.

The Murray/Doyle version of this film has long been a key piece of how I perceive Thompson. I haven't dared to watch the Depp version. I don't want that drunken, bumbling Murray to disappear.

The movie has some sort of irresistible appeal for me as well, and it may be simply due to the soundtrack, the Thunderbird and Jami Gertz' legs.

thanks guys. Reading the commentary gave me a good laugh, and I didn't waste any time listening to the song.
The cover looks like a lead-in shot to Al performing outdoors at the Today Show, with a key grip suspended from a cherry picker overhead, dropping soap flakes to simulate snow.

To me, that cover shot looks like Al is thinking "Man, I never knew elves had such cold lips."

When you say "suck it" do you say it in an accent, like Frenchie used to do on the old Opie & Anthony show?

You know, speaking as a Canadian, we found that song very inspirational at the time. It still chokes me up a bit.
Then again, we also gave the world Sun Ice full body snow suits in pastel combinations.

The girl from T'Pau, Cathy Dennis, Amy Grant. They dressed like moms most of the time, but they were still on my "list".
Still can't figure it out. Amy Grant? Really?

Oh god. I was trying to be all positive and patriotic, thinking things like "Foster's got a great oeuvre of work, that should be a tolerable year...."
And then I read your comment, DW. And laughed uncontrollably for five minutes.

Dammit - i'm going to age myself here.
At least Two Tone Ska was only one generation removed from the Kingston slums when this Ottawa boy jumped on that bandwagon four or five years late (1983).

in Disqus and the comment-o-sphere on Mathew's comments
You know, those hints about possible uses for comments imply that Disqus will have some level of control over comments, and will use them out of context in a separate application.
That might be appealing to some people, but wouldn't it mean that Disqus would wield control over ALL comments in its system?

I couldn't agree more. Even more startlingly for me, I've come across supposed experts who have moved beyond the curve - to denying the appropriateness of social media in certain campaigns.

I'd like to agree with you, but I have to admit that I balk at the first impression - that part where the caller tries to establish a relationship on a first name basis.
If you really cared about me, you wouldn't be calling during dinner. Or during Chuck. Or NCIS. Or Flip This House.
You would, maybe, send me mail.

For a second there, I was going to stand up for Yellow Pages listings.
Then I remembered that, in their online directory, they never include a direct hyperlink to a company or a store's website - if there's one available.
It's all about keeping people inside the Yellow Pages fenceposts - in print and online.
I mean - the GD listing for Magma doesn't have a hyperlink!

in Walmart uses bloggers, NYT says on Scobleizer
Shel mentions someone questioned Edelman's choice of bloggers to target: that was me, and I'm quite startled that this entire discussion, both here and elsewhere, overlooks that Edelman's blogging work seems to reinforce the philosophical divide between pro and anti-Wal-mart groups.
It's not really about conversations or even sharing information: their work concentrates on providing ammo to pro-groups and denigrating anti-groups.
Is there any room for conciliation or discussion in an environment like that?
