Doing the same thing with VMWare on my MacBook Pro. Wasn't as straight forward as I had hoped (see blog) but I was able to get it up and running. Will be looking to do some non-Vista comparisons with XP.

Its interesting, but reading this I connected with all of the emotions that you describe above after losing my job last February. Interesting thing is that as fast as you emerge into it it takes a while to crawl out. Hang in there man. You'll be fine!

When I lived in Tokyo I remember the jump from 128K ISDN (circa. 1998) through the various ADSL speeds (4, 8, 12 mb) and finished in 2005 with a whopping 100Mb Fiber connection. Even then I thought it was a bit too much. 1Gb....? Well if you have it available why not use it.

At the ripe old age of 1 & 1/2, my little boy fell in love with his father's crush.... Alicia Keyes. He still stops in his tracks when she is on.

Well, its late Sunday night and I just wanted to thank Maria for allowing me to share this.

It was also a pleasure reading all of the comments. I am committed to doing the right thing by my 20 year old daughter as well as her two young 1/2 siblings.

I am a better Man, Father from this experience but know I still have a way to go. My blogging in some ways helps me with that.

Maria, when I'm 95 and living forever (you'll get that one later) I hope you are blogging right along with me! See everyone again soon!

Make no mistake, illegitimateAngel, I am not here for praise, nor am I here as some means to pay penance through a public lashing. Like Maria, if I thought this was a mince-words community I would never have asked to tell my story. I am here for thoughtful opinions like yours.

I appreciate your view on the term "Deadbeat Dad" for example. In my reference it was in about men who shirk or never pay child support. That I did not do and all 17 years was finished and I still cover things like her car insurance while she's in school.

In your literal definition, you are absolutely correct, I was a deadbeat in the relationship. Thanks I hadn't thought of it that way.

Thanks everyone. I am just facing my own demons on this one. What matters is my actions going forward. I know I can't change the past. I also want to get it out there that some of us (men) do have a conscious and struggle on how to deal with our own mistakes.

My first step father abused my mother for years. I relates to that as I read this. Regarding the second horrific nature of this beast, I can only say this is yet another example that shames me as a man. I only hope you realized that WE are not representative of this type of species of male.

I had to step away for a day before replying to this. I sat in front of my keyboard this morning not knowing what to say nor how to say it. A tragedy, a pity those words imply such a defeatist attitude. I would imagine that this need not be him. He is young, there are meds it is not an immediate sentence. My prayers would go out to him, but they need go out to those who are out there working on the cure. If he is 1/2 as strong as you are, he will be just fine.

BUSTED!!!!

I as you may or may not know, have 2 kids. To be honest I can't say that I have one favorite over the other. I think in my case it may be due to the fact that I have one boy and one girl. So they both get a different type of affection from me. It could also be their ages (3.5yrs & 2yrs) where I haven't gotten to the point of deciding if I like one over the other. Either way, for now, I hate them both at times equally. :)

This is great that you said it. I have always said that in the end, with my blogging at least, it has to be about the content. At least for my own integrity. I gave away my passions for years. Now I want to earn something back for a doing what I love to do. For me, it is still and will always be about the content. The rest is just icing on the cake. :lol:

This is a very powerful post from a male point of view. I left the U.S. for Military Service overseas. Along with that I left a 1 year old daughter. This was not entirely my making and I don't want to get into the blame game now. But it tore me apart inside. 16 years later, I returned to the U.S. and embarked on a mission of finding my daughter. I did. We eased into things and shared our experience and feelings about the matter.

We are still in contact today and I do regret the way everything turned out. But she is my daughter and we both have embraced that I am not her "Daddy" she has one of those, but I am her father.

This experience has shown me now at 40 what I never understood at 19. My children today (3 yrs and 20 mo.) will not have to feel the pain that she went through. For that I am sure.
