It only took about 5 minutes of reading before I realized I was going to stick around your blog. Following you over from BlogHer, you captivated me with your information on the ADHD that you and your son both share. Thanks for all the advice you offered!

I'm feeling your daughter's pain. My own years of braces totaled nearly 6 years. UGH. That was no fun.

What a great way to wrap up the weekend at BlogHer. It was all this and more, but the clique reference gave me some things to think about as I write my own entry. I love what TW said about fitting in and describing oneself. It is so perfect.

Wonderful to meet you and have my brain go, "Oh, yeah! I remember you and the ADHD thing that I commented on a long time ago."

Thank you, Karoli, for being so ardent in your support of Julie Amero. Why we take the innocent and victimize them and let so much else happen why turning a blind eye to them infuriates me. Of course, I'm in support of teachers and all that emcompasses, but what's the real story? Who were they trying to catch doing something?

So many more questions. You are a real blessing to know, my dear. Your example speaks volumes.

It's funny, but Kennimus thought you were slamming me, but I assured him that I had NOTHING to do with your daughter's placement. It's completely irresponsible for them to have merged these two schools and then not managed to have the foresight to determine what to do with their Honors students (not to mention Special Education students, but I though that would have been too obvious).

Or perhaps they did.

Here's my question for the district: did they figure that their honors student category was going to increase and then re-configure their placement criteria? If so, did your daughter not make the cut? If so, did they consider her and other kids not to have been "Honors" in the first place?

I'm sorry for the mess. I hope it all works out and you get the answers you seek. Mostly, I hope that your daughter is ok.

Since I can't convince the fam to join, I'm doing small things that will hopefully catch on with them and become a natural part of our lives:

no more plastic bags - I carry my plethora of Teacher Bags to the store

reducing water waste

water saving showerhead

combining trips to save gas

also, slowing down (am leadfoot by birth. I blame mom.)

unplugging all not-in-service devices

not using heat or a/c unless absolutely necessary

laying clothes

reducing garbage

reusing EVERYTHING from containers to shampoo bottles

Seriously love those bags. So darn sassy. Have you seen the reusable "For Like Ever" sacks? V. cute.

We save money by giving gifts of TIME. What I learned about my children is that they each value time alone with me so each present is marked with special time. For instance, my youngest son loves old movies and wants to watch them WITH me so a gift for him would be a 2 hour slot of time, the movie of his choice, and a bag o' goodies (mostly from the $1 section of Walgreens but any dollar store would work) like Twizzlers and popcorn and a Jones soda.

Each one is different and personalized for each kid and they can redeem them at any time. Great, easy, money-saving!
