i do valuvision sometimes because they are uber-cheap and do buy-one-get-one things a lot. so i got prescription sunglasses and glasses for the price of just the glasses, which insurance covered.

downside? cheap = a lot of lame frames and only a few good'uns, and sometimes they are weird people.

you could be hyper nerdy and get your scrip from a doctor, then go online and order them. read this bloggy post: http://www.43folders.com/2007/11/29/adventures-...

weird but apparently cheap, but difficult to get going from the looks of it.

in a year you'll be tape loops only. i'm calling it now. rooms of pencils jammed into pieces of wood, looping huge tape reels around in an intricate Goldbergian manner.

I'll go:

Fiction - High Fidelity
Non-Fiction - tie between the 33 1/3 series on NMH's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" and the EMI Records released "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions".

The fiction title is heartbreaking, witty, snarky, and has a geeky music love that stands proud before everything else.

The NMH title gives a brilliant history of the entire Elephant 6 collective, in addition to exposing the brilliant psyche of one Jeff Mangum

Finally, the Beatles book shows you detailed session logs and studio arrangements (including gear choices and placement of microphones, in some examples) of EVERY session the Beatles took while on the EMI label. Pretty amazing stuff. It really shows the dedication to their craft, considering how many takes it often took to complete a song.

Oh - and that Mixerman book is pretty amazing as well :)

As I've mentioned to other bloggers, I'm kind of excited about Plurk just because it was built by a great developer who made Todoist. Todoist is my GTD web app of choice and is a steady-as-a-rock AJAX interface, supporting millions of tasks and thousands of users. I imagine stability is something Plurk's got going for it.

Users of Todoist recently received a notification from Amir (Todoist and Plurk's developer) about Plurk; in it he explained the concept and gave us the link to his user page. Check it out for how he intends Plurk to be used: http://www.plurk.com/user/amix

I like it. I like how it integrates emotion, links, thoughts into a linear timeline. It's a little more visual than Twitter which makes it interesting but might be prone to confusion as it takes off. Hope you're well Dave!

A year or two ago I saw this service being offered in London and thought it was brilliant. The fact that it's made it stateside is more brilliant and the fact that it's in Nashville is unbelievable. Definitely putting them in my phone's contact list!
