in Hawai`i Island Green Business Directory on Green Collar Technologies
Some important concerns about privacy and advertising have come up...

Regarding advertising... There are currently no plans for advertising. If users of the directory request advertising, we would consider a member-supported model. This wouldn't happen prior to release and subsequent member involvement.

We will take on a listening and communicating role for the directory at the start but would hope to transition that to a member advisory board.

...and privacy issues. Specifically, the Green Collar Technologies policies would not necessarily apply to the directory.

The privacy policy reference above is currently for the survey. The Directory's privacy policies would be dictated by the needs of the users.
Options might also be made available for subscribers that do want updates on specific topics.
Changing any preferences, submitting feedback and unsubscribing would be at the discretion of the subscriber.

There would also be a self-service mechanism to retrieve lost passwords, providing the user knows the email address they signed up with. We should probably stick to the best practices of the major social networks like facebook, myspace etc. for starters.
