If you're looking for readers, I guess it worked, but its totally inaccurate. on the contrary, I thought we were super proessional in our approach to the game, and perhaps our style of play actually shows that we are becoming more mature on the world football stage. to grind out a victory like that in an away qualifier instead of pressing the game when unnecessary, and spreading ourselves out defensively and then possibly conceding a goal might be boring but sometimes that what it takes in these kinds of games. If we hadn't scored in the final minute of the first half the game would have looked like you wanted it to with more creativity and chances on goal, but we didn't have to play like that to get the result.

Did you even watch (think about) the game?

Re: FREE Shipping from DermStore.com

i think free shipping is only for US resident

for non US residents, you'll find that 'free shipping' is just fake when it comes to 'STEP 3 OF 4- Payment Information'

Re: Jon Gosselin is a storm - Happy mother's day Kate

Kate lies a lot. She says she is a stay at home mom, but she spends more than half her time away from home either promoting books that she said she wrote (although the first one was written by Beth Carson, not her, and the second is more a scrap book and not a book at all) or lining up promotional deals. She says she doesn't have a nanny but then who is looking after the kids when she is away 20 days out of the month and apparently Jon is out drinking and partying. There's got to be someone more than a "helper" that comes for a few hours a day.

She says she is a devout Christian, but rarely goes to church, which is not that big a deal... but she seems to lie a lot, she certainly seems to be more interested in appearances than in substance, more concerned about money and celebrity than in the welfare of her kids, and more into herself than anyone else.

People make the choices that they make, but when they use lies and deceit to exploit their kids, to me it crosses a line.

Re: OLD HAND; NEW JOB

Old School rep. U so funny. Mitch and the rest of these so called public servants have directly known about this property tax mess for at least 13 years. Yes 13 years. Don't believe me, use your Socratic powers and look it up a Legislative Services Agency (LSA). Now, 2008 it is an issue? I am sick and disgusted with how this nations public policy is made. How you ask is US public policy made? 2 ways. One, it takes a tragedy such as 9-11. If there are not dead bodies, then there will not be policy changes. Two, hit the wallets of the rich. The rich whine and bitch plus they have the influence to make people do something. Example, this property tax mess. On a different note. Isn't it strange that when taxes were raised to pay for Lucas Oil and the Convention Center, nobody said a word and accepted the increase. But when we have to raise taxes to pay for schools, public safety, library and social welfare, my god, the world is coming to an end. Does not have a degree in finance or economics and has never operated a company, public or private. He is basically Melina Kennedy all over again. He worked for John Okeson, (Paul Okeson brother) at the State Clerk then Lugar. That is it. As for Sarah Taylor, she was way over her head as Clerk, and she is way over her head now. Just heard from my source. The assessment that were completed on residential (only) properties based on the "fair market value" are being inflated by the assessors at the request of high level politicians, namely the Gov. Blade himself (and do not exclude Baur and Bosma). Why? They needs to justify the caps that he is putting on residential properties. Supposedly, the inflation rate is roughly 12%-14% compared to the last assessed value. Just wait till you get your bill.

Re: WHAT GOVERNMENT REFORM?

Hey Abby Dull, first Nick Weber (Economic director with no clue what economics is) and Sarah Taylor (Ms. Yes Woman), now Tobias. Yup. Manatron. Why the 2 week extension? Well folks, the property tax CAPS. Lets go back a bit. Remember when Meridian Maddness (supposed property tax crisis) was in full swing? Why? Why did property tax assessment and in turn property tax bills go sky high causing Meridian Maddness? The assessors utilized fair market value assessment. That is why there was a 22% increase in my property tax bill and the Meridian Street activists got upset. Well Manatron, has been given the honor of assessment, problem is that the CAPS are causing property tax revenue to fall short. Way short. So Guvenor Blade, Bosma and Baur are persuading Manatron to "adjust" the assessment numbers to make revenue. In the meantime, the Elected are eliminating positions and squeezing the turnip dry in order to find dollars to save....And they can't.

Re: YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME

Hey Abbie Dull. Kotchen, a University of California-Santa Barbara economics professor who conducted the study.
Kotchen said the energy-saving argument has been made since Benjamin Franklin raised the issue more than 200 years ago.
The study found electricity consumption -- when differences in weather and other factors were taken into consideration -- increased by up to 4 percent. The cost to individual households comes out to $3.19 a year.
Kotchen said DST reduces lighting costs, but increases both air conditioning and heating costs too much to offset those savings.
Still, he said, the study should not be taken as the definitive assessment of DST.
"I would not draw any conclusions from this as to whether you should keep or get rid of daylight saving time," Kotchen said.
"The study looked only at residential electric bills and there could be other things that offset those added costs or make (DST) better or worse for the people of Indiana."
Gov. Mitch Daniels pushed for the change to DST, making the switch a key part of his 2004 campaign for governor.
"The reason the governor supported daylight saving time was about jobs and removing a handicap from Indiana's economy," said Jane Jankowski, the governor's spokeswoman.
Jankowski said Daniels never painted the change as being about energy consumption or savings to homeowners.
"It was about jobs, promoting economic development and getting Indiana in sync with the rest of the country," she said.
A November Indianapolis Star-WTHR (Channel 13) poll found Hoosiers about evenly split on the time change. Forty-three percent said Daniels' decision to move the state to daylight saving time has been bad for Indiana, while 44 percent think it's been good. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Angeline Protogere, spokeswoman for Duke Energy, the state's largest provider of electricity, called the study interesting but said it leaves many questions. She said Duke supported the change for economic development reasons.
"There are other ways to show the impact of DST," she said, "particularly from a business development perspective."
The 240,000 homes involved in the study represent about 35 percent of Duke Energy's more than 679,400 residential customers in Indiana, Protogere said. There were about 2.5 million residential power users in Indiana in 2000, according to Census data.
The $8.6 million price tag was computed by projecting the added electrical use in the 240,000 homes involved in the study across all of Indiana's residential electricity users.
Kotchen said the idea for the research project grew out of a conversation with a Hoosier dinner guest in Santa Barbara and a subsequent chance meeting with a Duke Energy official.
As his Hoosier dining companion was talking about his flight to California and confusion regarding time changes, Kotchen said, "he began telling me the history of the time debate in Indiana and that the state had recently switched to daylight saving time."
At a conference a few months later, Kotchen said he met a Duke official and pitched his idea about getting access to Indiana data for the study.
Biggest gripes

Tom Andrews, Kokomo, said the added cost is just another reason to dislike the change to DST. He said he never thought the switch would save money.
"The added cost is minimal," he said. "For me, its more of a light issue. It just knocks my body clock out of whack."
Like many other Hoosiers, Andrews said his biggest gripe with the change is that most of Indiana is on Eastern time.
"I'm not surprised by this," said Rep. David Crooks, D-Washington, who opposed the time switch and thinks most of the state should be on Central time with Chicago, not Eastern time with New York.
In the southwestern corner of the state where Crooks' district lies, Evansville and neighboring counties are on Central time, while Washington, Vincennes, Jasper and Huntingburg are on Eastern time. Crooks acknowledges that it's unlikely that any time zone arrangement will please a majority of people.
"If you wanted to be natural compared to the rest of the nation, Indiana should be Central. Because we were on Eastern for so long, it seems unnatural for Indiana to be on Central."
Call Star reporter Tim Evans at (317) 444-6204.

Star reporter Kevin O'Neal contributed to this story.

Re: WHO WANTS TO BE SUPER, DELEGATES?

Abbie, Abbie, Abbie. I am disappointed in you. Todays (Sat. March 8th, 2008) IndyStar page one headlines "Bush: Our economy has slowed. Payroll shrink". Just below that headline regarding Indy Mayor Greg Ballard "Average pay of Mayor's inner circle up 8%". If the economy is slowing, less tax revenue. Maybe I am wrong. The article further states that 4 positions have been eliminated but 2 will be created for Abandoned housing and Front Porch Alliance position. What is even more troublesome is that the justification for these higher salaries is the need for the best/most qualified individuals should be paid this high salaries. If that were the case, then how did Deputy Mayor on Economics Nick Weber get the position with no prior experience. But it gets better, more IMPD officers are needed for the street to implement community policing and to combat the raising crimes rates left by the Peterson Administration. So what does the Ballard Administration do, it promote 9 new officers from the street to desk jobs, 9 Sgt's to Lt positions, 6 Lt's to Capt's position. This already on top of a management top heavy department. Come, Abbie, address this on your show. No guts no glory.

Pension debt shift saves city $1 billion
State will assume cost as part of tax deal, but Indy will see funds cut
By Brendan O'Shaughnessy

March 18th, 2008 -IndyStar

A Indianapolis taxpayers will be able to avoid a $1 billion loan to cover the city's pension debts after lawmakers handed the pension problem to the state.

Mayor Greg Ballard, speaking at a news conference Monday, hailed the reform plan the General Assembly passed as a major boon to Marion County taxpayers.
The state increased the sales tax by a penny and took over some perennial local budget headaches -- pre-1977 police and fire pensions and health care for the poor -- that together cost more than $65 million a year. The state also will pay for state-run child welfare and juvenile justice programs that cost property taxpayers about $80 million a year.

Despite shedding these expenses, the city and county will still need to cut spending because less money will be coming in. According to a city analysis, new property tax caps in the bill will mean city-county tax collectors would see $11 million less next year and $39 million less in 2010.

Ballard took credit Monday for lobbying the state to take over a pension debt that has drained money for years from efforts to bolster public safety. Some critics had said he was asking the state for too much. Now, he said, the city will no longer have to borrow $1 billion to pay off the pensions over the next 40 years.

"That will be returned to the taxpayers as property tax relief," Ballard said. "It's kind of a wash to city government, but it's huge for the taxpayers."

The city will still need to reduce its spending, Ballard said. He pointed to the pension pickup of $30 million as a big step toward his promise to cut government spending by $70 million in three years.

Councilwoman Jackie Nytes, a Democrat, questioned whether taxpayers would truly benefit when the costs of the pensions and welfare programs are simply shifted to another part of government.

"When he talked about cuts, he was talking about smaller, leaner government," Nytes said, "not something that someone else pays for out of my other pocket."

Council President Bob Cockrum, a Republican, said finding $40 million in cuts over the next two years will be a challenge.

"It's too early to say whether we can find that money without a tax increase," Cockrum said. "Filling a budget hole usually means service cuts or tax increases unless we can find some efficiencies."

Re: ASSESS THIS

This is precious and priceless. The city (including Ballard, Dems and Repubs) as well as the State (specifically, Your Man Mitch), are breathing as huge sigh of relief for getting the Superbowel. Why? First, the RCA is not paid off somewhere in the tune of $70million and alot. Additionally, the new Lucas Field and new convention center is almost entirely funded by.....sales tax, hotel tax and rental car tax somewhere in the tune of $1 billion dollars which is roughly the cost of the field and convention center. With this mighty windfall of Superbowel tax money that is coming to town, pray for warm hot February weather. But here is the best part. As we all know, the OPERATING costs of the new Lucas Field were not part of the $1 billion dollars. In fact, there are no operating budget that is funded, yet (at least to my very limited knowledge). AHHHH next stop, more taxes to operate Lucas Field. Scheduled stop, July 08. Now we have justification (a Superbowel) to build the Lucas because Tech High School is getting a new football field to assist them in the 35% graduation rate.

Re: WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE

SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!! Couple of issues have come into play, directly and indirectly. It is my understanding that there has been a push/concerted effort to hire 1. minorities and 2. ex-military. Reasoning. Minorities in order to stay compliant with various laws,regulations,etc.. and to prevent lawsuits based on race. Former military because the belief is they bring a sense of self discipline about themselves plus well we are at war with terrorism, drugs, etc... And who better to fight a war than the military. I am not going to say that college educated pukes would not have done these acts or non minorities as well. What it comes down to is this...The qualifications (hiring process) to become a police officer are lax, outdated or not being adhered too within IMPD/IPD/MCSD. NOTHING WOULD CHANGE and nothing has. In the last 30 years public policy is based on 2 things and 2 things only. 1. TRADEGY - fly a plane into a building, bomb Navy ships in shipyard. You will get change. 2. POCKETBOOKS/MONEY - fortunately or unfortunately however you see it, this property tax issue has not hit most in the pocketbook/money.
I find it humorous that the elected Gov. I will WAG (wild ass guess) it at $20-$25 million a year in savings that shifted to the state and saving the county/city money. Additionally, the last mayor/council increased substantially, the COIT (county option income tax) and sales tax and Gov. Daniels increased my property taxes. Stop the press. I just got wind that the 2009 budget and all future budget will be secured by Ballard. He found more revenue.

Ballard Budget Balanced By Boondoggle
By Harold Hill
WRTV-6
August 1, 2008

Unconfirmed sources have stated that Mayor Ballard will be leasing Merdian St starting at Washington St and ending at the County Line. It is being leased for $2.15 billion to a Japanese transportation company until 2107. The company, to be named, will be managing and maintaining the road and speculation is they will be designing a lite rail system in order to generate revenue. The rail, which has been a topic in Indianapolis for some time, is expected to up and running witin 4 years. According to sources close to Ballard, he had been playing with the idea of selling public owned projects in order to balance the budget since 2006 when Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels sold the toll road to a overseas firm which in turn balanced the state budget. Sources close to the Mayor also indicated that all Indianapolis landmarks and goverment owned property are on the table to the highest bidder. Ballard still needs to get council approval.

Copyright 2008 by TheAbdulChannel.com All rights reserved. Almost, every agency (city and county) asks for an increase. If I were the prosecutor/public defender/sheriff/chief of police/agency head and didn't ask for more pay/money/projects for my agency, I wouldn't be doing my job. It is up to the council (and to a certain extent the auditor/city) to say no and send it back. It was done to me several times as a budget manager. Ask for the moon, get crumbs. I challenge you to sit in on an agency budget meeting on how they figure the numbers. That is were the sausage is made and it ain't pretty. On another note, if the sheriff $26 million project will make this city safer, then do it.

Re: Jailhouse Rocks

Keep digging. Let me get this straight. Daniels raises my property taxes after he failed to reform government (see Kernan Shephard Report). Daniels then orders a reassessment of property values which delays financial support to local goverment who in turn have to borrow funds (with interest) to keep to lights on with a roughly $8 million interest on the loan (for Indy). Then Mayor Ballard of Indianapolis says that there is a $26 million shortfall in part due to an $11 million dollar property tax cap plan that Gov. Daniels supported. In the meantime, Daniels has a lease on the toll roads which gained $3.8 billion. And I am not sure where that money went too. In the meantime, Ballard will be cutting Arts and Parks funding yet finding $5 million in funds to get criminals/convicts jobs because jobs help bad guys from going back to jail but in the meantime my nephew who graduated from IU with a degree in finance/marketing can't get a job (unless he commits a crime at which point Ballard will get him one). And Gov. Daniels wants to give money back to who?? In the meantime, the State picked up the tab on welfare/DFC/public safety pension and juvenile committments. Maybe that is where the Toll Road money went? I can only imagine what the financial books look like for the State and City.

Re: Fishburn Update

Hey Abbie, Can you promote this on your show. City Council, Membership dues 2009 budget-$9,500. 2008 budget-$300. Office of Finance and Management salaries. 2007-$2,592,249, 2009 - $2,958,101 (increase of $300,00).Corporation Counsel Charges (internal) (have no idea what this is) - 2007 - $21,379; 2009-$104,250. This is common place. A mayor/party has his interests and they will be taken care of. Park, arts, etc.. are not one of them. But it is just the beginning. The problem with IMPD is that officers over the last 15+ years were NOT being disciplined by the department. I mean when an officers beats his pregnant ex-wife pleads guilty to battery (no punishment from the department) then get promoted to Sergeant, that sends a message. When you steal federal grant money then steal the Sergeants exam with no punishment then get promoted to Sergeant. That sends a message. When you get 3 DUI's and are not fired, that sends a message. IMPD forgot that punishment is not just for criminals, it is for the officers as well. The sad part is that most current IMPD supervisors bitch and whine that the new recruits are selfish, self centered and self serving. The new recruits don't know what "real" work and or don't have a work ethic. If that is the case, your a supervisor, correct the behavior. These current supervisors haven't disciplined and we have results like this. I don't want a supervisor to be cool, nice or my friend. I want my supervisor to supervise, correct the undesired behavior in order to bring integrity to the policing profession. Sad issue is this. The promotional process is flat out unrealistic. There is a college style exam you take to become a supervisor. So if your good at taking exams, guess what, you become a good supervisor. Regardless of whether you can identify poor behavior/performance or give a good ass chewing. The promotional process doesn't take into account real world scenarios. Not all the supervisor are bad, but I will say, this recent bout of IMPD getting busted says something about the current crop of yes men, er supervisors.

Re: Pregnant Pause

Abbie,

Your missing the point. Palin will be a grandma vice president with 5 kids and a 4 month old special needs child. Can she handle the fact that this is even more responsibility for the VP post. Palin will need to be a mother, granmother and parent to her 17 yr old with a newborn. In many cases with teenage pregnancy/parents, (grand)parents do a great deal of supporting, nuturing and raising their grandchild and the teenager is allowed to be a teenager/teenage parent. I have kids. Not 5 and not teenagers. It is a lot to handle for both husband and wife. I never ever asked my wife to be a "super mom" to my kids. Just a mom. Personally, I have given up many careers where I could have been financially better off. But my family would have suffered. It is a balance. Maybe Palin can pull it off. My philosphy is family first. I wish more would have followed. Personally, I think Palin should as well. Her daughter(s) and future grandbaby will need her. Or will he country/party need her more. ABBIE....so ponder this. I political insider I know within the McCain camp told me the following regarding Palin and the discussion into his choice. I will be paraphrasing our conversation. First, McCain wanted a fresh maverick choice but he also wanted a pretty face with a family to offset Obama's race and family . Second, McCain knew of her pregnant daughter and didn't blink an eye. He saw her appointment as a media distraction for at least 2-3 weeks. McCain claimed Obama was getting too much media coverage and that Palin would offset or at least equal the Obama media craze. Three (THIS IS THE KICKER). She will only be VP for no more than 24-36 months months after McCain/Palin win the election. A deal was struck between hardline conservatives in the GOP that Palin would be around for a short time and would resign prior to the end of the 4 year term. The hardline conservations would then select a hardline conservative as VP after Palin resigns for family reasons. The short list to replace Palin include Romney, Brownback, Sununu and Coburn. Supposedly, this was agreed upon and Palin was OK with the arrangement because she would be the first female VP. Additionally, McCains handlers dictate her every move leading up to the election in fear of her screwing things up. McCain has a nasty temper so his camp is on eggshells right now.

Re: Palin on Parade

Abbie, This is an interesting take on the family/politics debate.

Analysis: GOP contradicts self on Palin family By TED ANTHONY, AP National Writer
Wed Sep 3, 11:48 PM ET
ST. PAUL, Minn. - People: Make up your minds.

For two days, the chorus from Republicans on TV news and in the halls of the convention has been resounding: Back off and let the Palin family be. "That's out of bounds," said Minnesota's Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty. "There's no need to be intrusive and pry into that."

Yet Wednesday found the following scenes unfolding:

_Sarah Palin's pregnant, unmarried 17-year-old daughter and probable future son-in-law stood in a nationally televised, politically packaged airport receiving line to meet and greet the Republican candidate for president.

_The extremely cute and bubbly Piper Palin, 7, made her debut on her mother's behalf, appearing in a video on John McCain's daughter's blog. "Vote for my mommy and John McCain," she said, giggling as Meghan McCain grinned.

_Bristol Palin and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Levi Johnston, sat and held hands as they watched the Alaska governor deliver an acceptance speech that, in its opening minutes, focused heavily on her family and children. Later, the family — including Johnston — ascended the stage, basked in an extended ovation and waved.

Huh? The Republican message about the Palin offspring comes across as contradictory: Hey, media, leave those kids alone — so we can use them as we see fit.

If you doubt this scenario, consider this: On Wednesday morning, a teenage boy from Alaska stood in a receiving line on an airport tarmac, being glad-handed by the potential next president of the United States — because he got his girlfriend pregnant. TV cameras were lined up in advance. The mind boggles.

"Either the children are out of bounds, and you don't put them in the photo ops, or you don't complain when somebody wants to talk about them. You can't have it both ways," said John Matviko, a professor at West Liberty State College in West Virginia and editor of "The American President in Popular Culture."

"Right now, it looks like they're being used by the campaign more than the media are using them," he said.

Though candidates for national office, and those close to them, are under more intense scrutiny than ever before in the American information culture, there is more to this situation than simple celebrity chasing.

These are two young people trying to figure out what to do in a difficult personal situation. The global scrutiny of it is a teenager's worst nightmare, and under normal circumstances they would be allowed to find their way unbothered.

But one big obstacle stands in their way: Sarah Palin the candidate.

Yes, she has asked the media to "respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition." Yet Palin has packaged herself as a PTA member and "hockey mom" — culturally loaded terms calibrated to evoke appealing images of middle America, the middle class, exurbia and strong 21st-century family values.

"Our family has the same ups and downs as any other, the same challenges and the same joys," she said, one of many general and specific references to her family in her speech.

Using one's relatives as accessories in the political arena can have its pitfalls, despite McCain's remark to ABC News on Wednesday that Palin has "got an incredible resume, including a beautiful family." Candidates open themselves to charges of hypocrisy if they demand the ability to boast but reject the attention that can ensue when the road gets rougher.

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, however, takes issue with that conclusion. He says both positions are possible.

"There's a long-standing precedent of children of the candidates being in the public eye as members of families involved in public service," Bounds said Wednesday night. "There is also a long-standing precedent of candidates' children being left out of the hardball politics of campaigning for higher office."

Barack Obama said flatly that the Palin kids should be "off limits," but he has engaged in the same thing — though to a lesser extent.

In July, he and his wife, Michelle, appeared on a four-part "Access Hollywood" interview with daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Obama later expressed regret about his decision to put them forward, saying, "I don't think it's healthy, and it's something that we'll be avoiding in the future."

Nevertheless, the Obama girls have made other appearances. They stepped on stage twice at the Democratic National Convention last week — once to talk to their father via video hookup after their mother's speech, and again after Obama accepted the nomination during the convention's climactic moment.

Let's remember one thing, though: Behind all the political machines and maneuverings, these contenders for the country's highest office are human beings and parents. And a parent is no more infallible than a candidate.

On her blog Monday, Meghan McCain expressed solidarity with the Palin kids, saying she understood the things they were grappling with. "It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician," she wrote. "You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it."

The road is bumpy for sure, and the media probably aren't helping. Sadly, though, the candidates themselves aren't doing much to make things better, either.
___

EDITOR'S NOTE — Ted Anthony covers American culture and politics for The Associated Press. No tax cut. No health care. No socialism. Not much of anything. Obama already realizes that the election promises are now out the window. Regardless as to who is to blame, government finances (bailouts, budget, deficit) will prevent the next several presidents from expanding or even introducing new projects. But here is the kicker. If Obama raises taxes to cover/pay the current economic issues, he will be seen as a tax and spend democrat. If he slashes/cuts taxes to stimulate (for the poor) the economy, he will be seen as a socialist and fiscally irresponsible because fo the current economic/budget condition.
2. Bush War Crimes. Congress may want to pursue Bush/Cheney and company on War Crimes (see Iraq). But will Obama? No, he won't. Although Bush and company would be convicted (under a Dem Congress), it would further divide the country and divert Obamas time and energy away from more important issues namely, economy and deficit. But don't rule it out. Obama and the Dems can always use this as leverage against the Republicans.
3. Sarah Palin. She is done like Dan Quayle. Her 30 seconds in the sun are pretty much over. She has a child and grandchild to raise. Plus, she burned some bridges with McCain in the closing weeks of the election (see the French interview). But wait...see 4.
4. Sen. Ted Stevens. Dear lord. It appears that the state of alaska has elected someone who has been convicted of 7 federal charges. But do not fret. He just might hold onto his seat. Maybe. Bush will pardon Stevens and Scooter Libby as he leaves office as every president does. But when Congress reconvenes, the Dems will certainly banish him unless the GOP finds some brass to do it themselves beforehand. But don't worry, Palin is ready to take his seat if he leaves. The COIT increase (under Peterson) was a public safety tax increase that was supposed to be used for several public safety expenses to fight crime. So we don't need additional funds for an additional 100 police officers? Jail overcrowding? New police cars? Increased fuel expenses?

On another note. I find it funny that when the election ends, the truth about the economic/fiscal health of Indiana government makes the paper. (see Claims draining state jobless fund http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...) Now let me think back. A certain governor (and other politicals running) ran a pirate themed political ad, regarding the low unemployment and high number of jobs he/she created during his tenure. If I a reading this article correctly, unemployment benefits have increased, dramatically which in turn represents more people unemployed.. Where did the jobs go? Additionally, I thought our state budget was balanced by the govenor? If that were the case, then why is unemployment insurance fund broke? I think we have been lied too (or have we). Oh well. Currently, IMPD vehicle fleet (1600 mostly Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor)fuel mileage is 15 miles in the city 23 miles on the highway. And IMPD (my guess) is buying more of these vehicles. Why?Probably they cost less than anything on the market. Also rumor is the Ford will be discontinuing the Crown Vic line in 2012/2013. IMPD tried out the Chevy Impala's with slightly better fuel mileage at 17 miles city 27 miles highway. So, why hasn't IMPD changed there fleet to the Chevy Impala's to save fuel mileage?

Re: It’s Too Late to Apologize

Abbie,

If you really want to get technical, yesterday was December 7 a day that will live in infamy.

Re: When Arrogance Exceeds Intelligence

All this revelation and uncovering has me giddy. You may want to check your facts and provide clarification and or documentation that this has actually occurred. The trustee does NOT dictate what the fire department does. Nor would it make and sense politically, legally or ethically to withhold lifesaving services.

What other "aide" would a trustee possess? Trustee primary function (if not only function) is to provide poor relief and secondly a budget manager (at best) for the township fuctions such as small claims, assessor, etc...

Maybe I am missing something. I looked up Trustee Duties on the govt website. This is what I found regarding trustee duties.

IC 12-20-5
Chapter 5. Powers and Duties of Township Trustee in
Administering Township Assistance
IC 12-20-5-1
Powers and duties
Sec. 1. (a) The township trustee of each township is ex officio the
administrator of township assistance within the township.
(b) The township trustee shall perform all duties with reference to
the poor of the township as prescribed by law.
(c) A township trustee, in discharging the duties prescribed by this
article, is designated as the administrator of township assistance.
As added by P.L.2-1992, SEC.14. Amended by P.L.73-2005, SEC.21.
IC 12-20-5-2
Oversight and care
Sec. 2. The township trustee, as administrator of township
assistance, in each township is responsible for the oversight and care
of all poor individuals in the township as long as the individuals
remain in the trustee's charge. The township trustee shall see that the
individuals are properly taken care of in the manner required by law.
As added by P.L.2-1992, SEC.14. Amended by P.L.73-2005, SEC.22.
IC 12-20-5-3
Temporary relief
Sec. 3. The township trustee, as administrator of township
assistance, shall investigate and grant temporary relief as provided
in IC 12-20-17-3.
As added by P.L.2-1992, SEC.14. Amended by P.L.73-2005, SEC.23.

Courtroom and office
Sec. 1. The township trustee shall provide a courtroom and an
office for each judge in a convenient location within the township
that has:
(1) adequate access;
(2) sufficient parking facilities;
(3) a separate and appropriate courtroom;
(4) proper space and facilities for the bailiff, clerks, and other
employees; and
(5) enough room for files and supplies.
As added by P.L.98-2004, SEC.13. Amended by P.L.174-2006,
SEC.7.

Now, do I beleive that most if not all township should be eliminated? Absolutely. It is a hotbed for political corruption and neoptism. Franklin Township is the worst. For years, lucrative no-bid contracts at the township level have been given to family and friends and cost the taxpayers.

But again, provide clarification and or documentation that this act has occcurred.

Re: Scrap That

No 100 new officers and now no part time. Another point, why didn't former Mayor Goldsmith (responsible for Conseco construction during his term) privatize Conseco Fieldhouse or My Man Mitch privatize Lucas Oil and the Convention Center?? I mean both these venues are NON ESSENTIAL government functions. Instead, we privatize prisons (remember the riots) and roads which are considered essential government functions. Hmmmm. But due to a $1.35 trillion tax cut in 2001, a $1.5 trillion tax cut in 2003, $170 million in stimulus checks in 2008 and a massive defense buildup through the Iraq (WMD or 9-11 terrrorist hunt) and Afghanistan wars (at a cost of what $8-$10 billion a month), on top of a massive corporate and financial bailouts Bush quickly blew through that surplus. Sad thing about this Democrats didn't protest government, spending, taxing and waste, they acted and voted the bums out. My question is where were these tea parties 3,5 or 7 years ago when things were getting real bad?

Re: Budget Battle, Part I

Question. During Mitch Daniels term as director of the OMB, Daniels oversaw a $236 billion annual surplus turn into a $400 billion deficit during his 29-month tenure. In 2002, Daniels helped discredit a report by Assistant to the President on Economic Policy Lawrence B. Lindsey estimating the cost of the Iraq War at between $100-$200 billion. Daniels called this estimate "very, very high" and stated that the costs would be between $50-$60 billion. Currently, isn't the US goverment spending rougly $8-$10 billion a month for Iraq operations? And now we wonder why Bush let him go. Daniels also sold the Indiana Toll road to an foreign firm to shore up the budget. So my question is this, why should Hoosiers be suprised that the Indiana budget is so out of whack based on Daniels track record. Wasn't it Mitch Daniels who said "You are entitled to all the lousy, crummy, graft-ridden government you want and are willing to pay for.” during a town hall to Lake County Residents meeting March, 2009? During Mitch Daniels term as director of the OMB, Daniels oversaw a $236 billion annual surplus turn into a $400 billion deficit during his 29-month tenure. From there, it snowballed. In 2002, Daniels helped discredit a report by Assistant to the President on Economic Policy Lawrence B. Lindsey estimating the cost of the Iraq War at between $100-$200 billion. Daniels called this estimate “very, very high” and stated that the costs would be between $50-$60 billion. Currently, isn’t the US goverment spending rougly $8-$10 billion a month for Iraq operations? And now we wonder why Bush let him go. Daniels also sold the Indiana Toll road to an foreign firm to shore up the budget and that did not work. So my question is this, why should Hoosiers be suprised that the Indiana budget is so out of whack based on Daniels track record. Wasn’t it Mitch Daniels who said “You are entitled to all the lousy, crummy, graft-ridden government you want and are willing to pay for.” during a town hall to Lake County Residents meeting March, 2009? On top of that, his support for property tax caps is now causing the layoffs of fire (Muncie, IN), police (Gary/Elkhart) and teachers (almost every IN school district). And he has not taken the lead to reform state government under Kernan-Shephard which could potentially save Hoosiers millions a year in efficiency(if done correctly). Yup.
