Consider yourself forwarned. There will be a substantial tax increase within the next 2 years. And Hoosiers will continue to vote these fools back into office.

Sorry Abbie,
We won't get a check and we won't hold our politicians accountable.
We (most) are sheep. Baahhhh. We follow our party/people.
And the politicians continue to get re-elected. And Hoosiers continue to put up with this thing we call a "democratic republic government.

Daniels and Ballard just created a ponzi scheme. This just broadens that scope of taxable entities for the benefit of Lucas Oil and Conseco and does nothing to create a more efficient government. Funny part is this. The convention center is not complete. Has anyone considered those operating expenses/costs????

in Weekend Reading on Indiana Barrister
I must laugh. During Mitch Daniels term as director of the OMB, Daniels oversaw a $236 billion annual surplus turn into a $400 billion deficit during his 29-month tenure. From there, it snowballed. In 2002, Daniels helped discredit a report by Assistant to the President on Economic Policy Lawrence B. Lindsey estimating the cost of the Iraq War at between $100-$200 billion. Daniels called this estimate “very, very high” and stated that the costs would be between $50-$60 billion. Currently, isn’t the US goverment spending rougly $8-$10 billion a month for Iraq operations? And now we wonder why Bush let him go. Daniels also sold the Indiana Toll road to an foreign firm to shore up the budget and that did not work. So my question is this, why should Hoosiers be suprised that the Indiana budget is so out of whack based on Daniels track record. Wasn’t it Mitch Daniels who said “You are entitled to all the lousy, crummy, graft-ridden government you want and are willing to pay for.” during a town hall to Lake County Residents meeting March, 2009? On top of that, his support for property tax caps is now causing the layoffs of fire (Muncie, IN), police (Gary/Elkhart) and teachers (almost every IN school district). And he has not taken the lead to reform state government under Kernan-Shephard which could potentially save Hoosiers millions a year in efficiency(if done correctly). But we did get Daylight saving time. Yeppie.

My Man Mitch. Good Job Govenor. And there will be more layoffs to come.
Budget deficit forces layoff of 40 Muncie firefighters
Chris Proffitt/Eyewitness News
Updated: May 22, 2009 05:37 PM EDT
A third of Muncie's firefighters will be laid off in the coming weeks.
Muncie - A budget shortfall is costing several Muncie's firefighters their jobs.
A third of the city's fire department will be laid off in 30 days for at least six months to help slash Muncie's $3.4 million budget deficit. The 40 firefighters bumped from the city's remaining five fire stations leaves the department with 70 officers and even fewer on a daily basis.
Mayor Sharon McShurley says she was left with no choice, given state property tax caps that have cut money to local government. Adding that the city is living on borrowed money and has ruled out raising taxes, but must cut $2 million from the fire and police departments.

Negative on this Abdul.
The Mayors office has in the works to privatize much of the city services including DPW, Parks and payroll (just to name a few). They are laying the ground floor now, but by the end of the year or early 2010, many city services will be privatized. And you thought Veiola Water Company was bad.

in Jon Gosselin is a storm - Happy mother's day Kate on sassyqarla
Kate lies a lot. She says she is a stay at home mom, but she spends more than half her time away from home either promoting books that she said she wrote (although the first one was written by Beth Carson, not her, and the second is more a scrap book and not a book at all) or lining up promotional deals. She says she doesn't have a nanny but then who is looking after the kids when she is away 20 days out of the month and apparently Jon is out drinking and partying. There's got to be someone more than a "helper" that comes for a few hours a day.
She says she is a devout Christian, but rarely goes to church, which is not that big a deal... but she seems to lie a lot, she certainly seems to be more interested in appearances than in substance, more concerned about money and celebrity than in the welfare of her kids, and more into herself than anyone else.
People make the choices that they make, but when they use lies and deceit to exploit their kids, to me it crosses a line.

The Truth About Taxes and Spending
Marie Cocco
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/...
Side note:
Strange thing is that when the Bush Administration (remember Mitch Daniels the Blade) came into office with an advantage few presidents have enjoyed -- a $230 billion surplus (if you want to believe the numbers by CBO). But due to a $1.35 trillion tax cut in 2001, a $1.5 trillion tax cut in 2003, $170 million in stimulus checks in 2008 and a massive defense buildup through the Iraq (WMD or 9-11 terrrorist hunt) and Afghanistan wars (at a cost of what $8-$10 billion a month), on top of a massive corporate and financial bailouts Bush quickly blew through that surplus. Sad thing about this Democrats didn't protest government, spending, taxing and waste, they acted and voted the bums out. My question is where were these tea parties 3,5 or 7 years ago when things were getting real bad?

in Ballard Unveils C.I.B. Funding Proposal on Indiana Barrister
My only complaint would be to double (or even triple) the ticket tax. 20%-30% increase would suit me fine. Abbie, look at who is buying the Colts and Pacers tickets. Reduce or drop the alcohol tax rate because we will all need a drink when this is said and done.

Question. Why did the State or Indiana get involved with the financing of Lucas Oil Stadium when it is a local(city) issue? Can someone explain?
in Monday Morning Musings on Indiana Barrister
Why did the state get involved with Lucas Oil Stadium financing and construction in the first place? Isn't Lucas/CIB a local government issue and NOT a state issue? And did the state overstep there constitutional authority by being involved with a local funding issue (CIB, Lucas Oil, etc). and Whose name is associated with the Colts, Indianapolis or Indiana? Now that the state is involved, look at the mess we have. Whoever got the state involved, should resign. Or did state officials get "punked/hustled" into the financing of Lucas Oil?

in Bet on the C.I.B.? on Indiana Barrister
Colts need $40 million this is how you get it. There are roughly 9 regular season home games (this does not include preseason or postseason). Lucas holds rougly 63000 fans. Add a $70.55 tax on every Colts (fan) ticket. Do the math, case closed. The Colts don't want to pay, let the Colts fans pay it. When the seats are empty, and revenue plummets, the Colts will come around.

But more than anything, I object to the idea of U.S. News or CREDO or anyone else telling me they know better than I do about what's a good school for my kid. "You don't need choices, punkin', we got it all figured out. Just blindly give us your children and stay out of it. Oh, but if they don't succeed, it's your fault."
