in Google Should Buy Disqus on Rahul Sood's Weblog
Somebody needs to buy them, they have through the roof potential! I would say Google might buy them but I think it would be more likely to see Yahoo! or Microsoft pick them up. I think the most logical choice though would be Facebook but FriendFeed would be a great match too although I don't think they have the means to buy them.

I think something will happen with them soon even if it is somebody like Wordpress buying them, I am sure something will happen.

in This about sums up Apple's Customer Service on Rahul Sood's Weblog
Stories like this make me happy I am not a Apple customer. I don't want to use a product that I have to make an appointment to have it looked at. I prefer to be able to fix my own problems anyway.

I have had a number of horrible customer service experiences. I would say the worst experience I have had is with Vivendi. I purchased the F.E.A.R. Extraction Point expansion for $20 only to have one of the two disks be defective. Finally after a half dozen or so emails with their support, I finally got them to admit that the disk was defective. Instead of sending me a replacement disk like they should have, they wanted me to pay them $15 for a replacement disk plus pay to ship the defective disk back to them. This seemed rather insane when it came with 2 disks plus everything else in the box for $20. In the end, I said screw them and went and downloaded the one disk I need off of bittorrent so I could finish installing the expansion. That is the last time I will ever buy anything from them.

in How not to get Crushed by the Burden of a Degree... on Rahul Sood's Weblog
In general, I agree with what you have to say. While a degree means a lot to many people, I believe that hobby projects or people that take the initiative to learn something outside of what is taught in a classroom is a better indicator of a person than a degree can be. If I see somebody with an impressive hobby project similar to the job they are after, I generally rate them above people that just have a degree but aren't doing anything until they get a job or outside of a job.

I am in a similar situation right now. I was forced to leave the university I was going to a year and a half ago and am now to the point where I can think about going back to school although I don't have the funds to go to a good school and get something besides a token degree. I want a computer science degree from a good school, not some local school with a bad reputation. My family is pushing me towards a token degree just so I can have something for when the economy rebounds and I can get a better job.

While their point has some merit, I would much rather go after a degree in something I am passionate about and want to do for a living rather than hoping that just having a degree will impress an employer enough to hire me. My dream would be to finish getting my degree at a school like M.I.T. but with my financial situation, I don't think that I really have any chance of doing that so I am doing some hobby projects in related stuff that look good and that I can hopefully make some money off of that I can go to a school that I want instead of settling for a token degree.

That is just my experience with this topic and I hope it helps shed some light on people that are in similar situations as myself. I of course left out a mountain of details but that is pretty much the genral outline of my life right now.

in Yammer: This thing is a prize winner? on Mathew's comments
I completely agree, when they announced that Yammer had won, my jaw dropped. I was tempted to jump up and scream above the crowd "What the hell are you people thinking?!?! This is not the most deserving winner!" I think Swype and Adgregate Markets are far more revolutionary and game changing than a threaded twitter clone that does the same job as a message board.

Well, I may not have been called out, but I shaved my head to about as short as you shaved yours.
