Great list! The only criminal omission is Audrey Hepburn in my opinion.

My best advice is to assume that the other party feels the way they do for a reason. It's very easy to adopt the attitude that "they're being irrational", but that gets you nowhere. If you can figure out why the other party feels the way they do by listening and looking at things from their perspective, it's much easier to arrive at a mutually agreeable outcome.

in Ritual Men’s Grooming Products Giveaway! on Art of Manliness
After breakfast I'll usually just wash my face and brush my teeth before heading to work. I'm not really a morning person, so I usually shave and shower in the evening.

in Twitter: more mainstream than it looks on Mathew's comments
I've had the exact same reaction among non-geek friends, one of them even interpreted what I said as the actual verb "twitter."

I really was curious how the ending would play out, and this was a pleasant surprise. Well done!

That's more of a nerd whine imo, and as a programmer I know that nerds come in every colour. Love the blog though, gives me a good chuckle every day. Thank you.

in Homeless voicemail: Only in the Valley on Mathew's comments
This initiative reminded me of something I read a while back in Wired about "Aspergian" philanthropy: http://www.wired.com/techbiz/people/magazine/15...

"Give the homeless voice mail" certainly lacks the punch of "feed the homeless", but it might make a big difference in the long run. Here's hoping.

in Hey, the cloud took all my data! on Mathew's comments
I'm a nut for backups, I have a local copy of all my music/e-mail/photos on my laptop, which I back up once more onto an external hard drive once or twice a month. It only takes one hard drive crash in which you lose data to make you think twice about these things. Fool me once...

mathewi I agree, Matthew -- all it takes is one disaster to make you think
hard about backups.
