in Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai on Shakesville@All hot air, I think your point about the way people in India are taught to look away is very valid. But I also feel that it is not right to exclude external factors from trying to explain how and why this happened. If Pakistan were more stable terrorism wouldn't happen with such ease. And Pakistan would be more stable if the Western World did more to actually ensure democracy there.
@stargazer, thank you for your comment, it is very insightful.

in You Can Help Bill! on Shakesville1) from 2.0.x upgrade to 2.3.x
2) uprgrde to 2.6.x
Upgrading works best if you disable all plugins first. Then upload the Wp-admin folder the wp-includes folder an all those single files in the wordpress folder right over the old files (which you backed up just in case). Then open www.whateveradressmyblogisatincludingthesubfold... and press the button there.
I think that should do the trick. I use an FTP protocol to transfer files so have only experience with that, but I always found it very easy to upgrade Wordpress. If anyone needs help email me. The adress is on my website.

in Interesting on Climb to the StarsAnd I am so stealing this post next time I am in the same situation ;) but only if you permit it.
Yes, I know the feeling, but then I set myself a timer and publish whatever has come around after 15min. And they aren't even the worst posts I've written.

in BlogTalk 2008: Rejection on Climb to the StarsI'm sorry you got rejected. I still think the whole multilingual blogging thing is highly interessting. The second reviewer really didn't seem to understand what it is about though. meh.

in Photography: Being the Model on Climb to the StarsActually most countries have laws about rights to pictures and your own image. So you may feel like you own, or co-own your pictures, but in fact you do not.
In germany, if you are at an event like a conference, or on the street, you do not have any rights on the image. Unless, of course, you are the "content" of the picture. Then you have a right to not have the picture published. You never have the right to get the picture sent free of charge. But most conferences have small print concerning this anyway, so look there. When doing an interview, could you not make sure, that the terms let you use the pictures?
I understand how you feel, I have felt the same, but this isn't really about feeling. It is about rules and regulations.

in Too Many People on Climb to the StarsTo me online and offline social networks have always been two very different things, seperate. I think getting to know someone online, especially if it is not reciprocal, does not aleviate you from the necessity of getting to know the person offline and dealing with them according to their inclinations. Probably this isn't makin much sense yet.
I for example have met you before, but if I met you again, I wouldn't expect you to remember me or give me any of your time. Simply because it was in a very public situation and we only talked very briefly. That I regularly read your blog, doesn't mean you have any idea who I am. I'm not sure I'm making much more sense now.
What I'm trying to say is simply: you are responsible for yourself, in your relationships as well as your work as wel as your life in general. Sometimes hopes of relationships might be disapointed, sometimes you miss someone you would have gotten along with exelently. But then again you seem to have a great network of people and good friends, is there any reason to spend less time with them because you might meet someone else that is as interesting? I feel not.
