a sleep sheet definately helps and you can also pack your own pillow case. I also always carry this disinfectant hand gel stuff or hand wipes. (in my camera bag to be exact, that way you never forget them!) They always make you feel better/cleaner. x

Wearing no shoes definately equals death. I wear no shoes around the house and Marcos goes mental, "dont come crying to me when you catch cold". He says. If I am at the in-laws, Ms mother runs to get me some slippers. In Australia, in summer, the only reason you would wear shoes indoors would be cause the floor was dirty and shit stuck to your feet. I even have a scar on the bottom of my foot where, when I was young, I walked to the shop to get ice-cream barefoot and trod on a tiny piece of glass that had to be surgically removed, even then my mother didnt tell me to wear shoes she told me to watch where I was going! Those latinos just need to toughen up!

Even though smoking at work was banned here 2 years ago my boss still smokes in the office. I want to slap him.


Marcos and I are both anti-smokers too, if fact just yesterday we were having a conversation about it. Marcos was trying to express how much he hated smoking by saying "If I had a gun and you were allowed to shoot people, smokers would be my first victims!" I couldnt stop laughing. A little dramatic and violent but they are killing US with their cancer sticks!

that is funny! what is it with Latinos and lactose products? Marcos eats yougurt on his breakfast, yougurt after lunch AND dinner, and cause I know he loves it so much I often bring him home liquid youghurt if I am shopping alone... I got him one last night, it was a "sabor nuevo" and I asked him if he had tried it before and he says he buys it at work! So he has liquid youghurt for morning tea AS WELL!

I like the first one, yes you always do the bright colours but thats cause they look fabulous! Great pics of the little girl too.

I meant that I think making friends with the locals when you´re a foreigner is a worldwide thing/problem, not just in Chile. Its hard when you are friendless and those around you already have their tried and trusted groups.

Arent americans famous for being over the top friendly? Which to some can come across as insincere?


I totally disagree with you, I dont think it could be particularly a chilean thing, the same sort of things have happened to me in Spain and in London. I think as a foreigner without any friends, or without belonging to a group of friends we are like, "OK right i am here, befriend me" You have all the time in the world, no friends and therefor you will generally make friends with any nice person that comes your way. The "locals" already have their own group of friends, probably still the same ones from high school/uni, and although they are friendly when meeting them, to accept you into their life is a big thing, they have to have room in their life for a new friend, especially for one that could be hard work as they dont have any friends themselves. They have to be on the lookout for a friend too/or for something you can offer them. For example, "locals" may often squeeze you into their lives cause they want a foreign friend. They like having a friend who can speak english etc. But again, the have to WANT a friend too. I dont believe in the romantic notion that people will want to befriend you cause you are a nice person, you cant make friends with everyone and people need to have the room in your life to do so.

Maybe when you exchange numbers with someone at a party, you think yay, cool, but maybe when it comes to the crunch and the person thinks about it, the cant be bothered making the effort and dont feel like they have more room, socially or emotionally for another friends. Getting to know someone can be hard work sometimes so its gotta be worth it! Easy for you, you´ve got all the time in the worl and all the emotional space in the world to give it a go cause you´re friendsless!



Think of when you lived back home, unless you changed jobs/schools, how many NEW friends did you often make. My bet is not a whole lot.

You spend what you can afford. We are going to California for 9 days and will be spending about $5k. Look around online for deals on those all-inclusive places, my friend and her husband went to Sandals for their honeymoon for like $1300 for 4 days.

Glad you didnt get axed in your sleep! Couch surfing is a wickedly cool idea. I too love a random guest, its just as good as having someone you know stay really, cause there are no expectations... with friends you bend over backwards but with randoms its whatever feels right at the time and its always more than they expect so everyone is happy!

Start with your 1st ultrasound pictures and a few of your growing belly. If you had a baby shower, I would add some of those in there too.

Then do any delivery room pics and the babies 1st pics...the most memorable pictures are the 1st ones every taken (in my opinion).

I love the scrap books, they always look so nice. My mom started one for me, I can't wait until its finished.

Shit mate! Thats an awful story. So fucking scary and something no woman should ever have to encounter. You may think you´re paranoid, but your paranoia doesn´t stop you from doing things so I´d call it more aware and prepared. It sounded like you reacted the best way you could and it worked, you were lucky, but also smart. But maybe it is best not to return to the hilltain, isn´t there somewhere more populated you can run? Or maybe there is an hour where more people run there?

whoa this is a popular topic...I never knew there so so much sensitivity about being "american" its all very informative!

They have cocina americana here too and although the idea of it being "open" sounds good in theory, it normally means there is no space for a kitchen and they´ve shoved it in the corner of the lounge room. In OZ we have spanish onion, which is the purple onion. Its not spanish and spanish people don´t know that we think it is. I think OZ just made it up cause purple onion was soooo exotic.

I can´t believe someone threw water in your face, thats so funny (in an unbelievable way - I am sure it wasn´t at the time) My friend who lived in Italy once had what she thought to be water poured on her from a balcony in the street, seconds later realised it was piss! So awful its funny!

What an amazing story!
I was just talking the other day to a friend who has recently had a baby about weight loss. Its unhelpful to try and lose weight and say things like "i can´t eat, this that etc" "Oh I shouldn´t" it has to be that you don´t want to. Not only with weight loss but with anything in your life you have to control it, not let it control you. YOU are the boss! Putting on a bit of weight is fine, but if you want to lose it, you need to know what your body wants/needs and you need to want that too!

It sounds like you are in control of things! Which is admirable in any circumstance.



Can we see any pics of before and after? Sounds like an amazing trasnformation!
