in Direction of the US Airlines on iJohnW.com
Taken from The Onion :

American To Charge For First Checked Bag

American Airlines announced that they would be charging $15 for a customer's first checked bag. What new revenue streams are the other airlines implementing?

United—$25 seatbelt rental fee for passengers who didn't bring their own

Midwest—$35 to sit in the passenger compartment

JetBlue—New fee structure for wait times on runway: $150 for under 2 hours, $75 for under 4 hours, etc.

Frontier Airlines—$20 penalty if passenger is not wearing coonskin cap

Continental—$100 reduced-fare tickets for standing-room-only passengers

Southwest—Ten bucks to touch the captain

Virgin—$30 fee for booking a flight with another carrier

Delta—$50 to chip in for gas

On a more serious note, BA here in the UK has just announced it will be increasing its fuel surcharges on June 3rd to 'as they say' offset fuel charges. This is despite a 45% rise in profits to £883M ($1.76B). As stated in the comment above, the amount of people that are able to travel by air is going to reduce, which means the airlines will make even less money, so they will have to hike prices even further. The higher the prices, the less passengers they'll get. It's a vicious circle! Where will it end I wonder. At the very least, I'm sure there will be plenty more smaller airlines going out of business.

On a more cheerful , Happy Birthday!

in Wii Fit Excitement in the Air on iJohnW.com
Well I mean one session. I only received it the day before so last night was my first opportunity to have a play. I accrued 53 minutes of 'fitness' time last night. I'm going to try and get at least 30-45 mins of activity on it each night if I can. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you're up and running (literally).

in Wii Fit Excitement in the Air on iJohnW.com
Wii Fit is £69.99 in the UK which equates to about $135 at the current rates. Only used it once so far, last night when I got it and it looks like fun. I haven't seen the boxing yet so I imagine that's an event I'll need to unlock. The only slight negative for me is that it doesn't present you with a full workout, i.e. it's up to you to select which individual event you want to do. I also purchased the component cable which certainly improves the quality of the image on a HDTV by allowing you to use the 480p option. Not sure if this cable is standard in other territories, it isn't in the UK (there's a surprise!).

ijohn Only used it once Lee?! I can't wait to get it! I think it's going to add a lot more excitement to playing with the wii....

I do have the HDTV cable too...altho I wish I had more inputs on my tv to allow HDTV for it...right now the xbox is taking it up..unless I switch that to HDMI

in iPhone Unavailable at Apple Store Online on iJohnW.com
Haha, they aren't giving much away are they? It's a similar story in the UK. Firstly 02, one of the big operators offered a substantial discount on the 8GB unit, which unsurprising sold out. Then both 02 and one of the larger high street retailers announced that both the 8GB and 16GB models were unavailable. Soon after that the UK Apple Store also stated that both models were 'unavailable'. Most people, myself included would be very surprised if Apple were to leave a gap in the market for very long, so I also think an announcement is imminent. I myself might be tempted with iPhone 2.0. The lack of 3G and a decent camera on the original version kepy me and many other Europeans away. In addition, the original contract requirements in the UK were excessive both in length and cost. Jailbreaking soon sorted out that little problem though :) Hopefully, those clever people will get to work once the new model is released.

in Happy RSS Day! on iJohnW.com
I don't have that many to be honest, and rather than use the reader I use the iGoogle homepage with multiple tabs. Maybe the reader is better, I should give it a try.

Anyhoo, my main RSS feeds are BBC News (none of your Fox nonsense), Engadget, AintItCoolNews (Movie news), Zap2It (TV news), Betanews, The Register, Blu-ray.com & Planet-F1.

I do look at quite a few scurrilous gossip sites (Perez, TMZ, Towerload, Queerty, Pink Is The New Blog etc.) but I still visit them the old fashioned way.

I need to update my routine I reckon, and add the iJohnw feed!

in Is the 100 MPG Prius Coming Very Soon?! on iJohnW.com
Wow, 100MPG is pretty impressive although as you say the up-front cost to achieve that is very high. I've twittered a few times about the ludicrously high prices of petrol (gas) in the UK and I predict it won't be too long before people here are forced to start considering this type of vehicle if they want to continue driving at all. Unfortunately, the vehicle cost is prohibitive for many people, but as is the case with most new technology, it's up to the early adopters to purchase and help refine the technology so that the masses can benefit in the long run.
