in Ted Kennedy’s Tumor on ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected
This story hit home. My dad had a seizure 15 years ago and within hours was diagnosed with a fist-sized brain tumor. He was fortunate that it was non-malignant and operable, but it came back aggressively 18 months later and he had a repeat all-day operation. Eight years later he had a third craniotomy for a cyst that had developed, opening the skull in the same way again for another all-day operation. If you met him today you'd never know he'd had three brain operations except for a scar. I wish Ted Kennedy had the same type of tumor as my dad - a meningioma - which are the most operable an dtreatable from what I udnerstand. I am praying for him and his family - he's been a great statesman.

in Gay Marriage In California? on ETC: Everyday Thoughts Collected
It has been my expectation for some time now that more and more states will legalize gay marriage, so it is something that American society and the church is going to have to get used to and live with. Personally I believe civil unions should be an option for all citizens but for the states to decide, while marriage should be left to the church, but then we have the whole difficult question of federal tax breaks, social security benefits, etc. Christians can't bury their heads in the sand and expect it to go away, and we can't live with hatred towards those who marry or who believe differently. but we can continue to be salt and light to the world. Christ will do the work; we are just messengers and ambassadors.
