My wife and I visited here and Borobodur but on different days last September! In one day you wouldn't really have the time to appreciate. BTW I flew here to you site via Twitter. Hope you continue to have a great trip!

I gave up on CoComment a while ago but it still seems to pop up from time to time in the various browsers I use. ;-)

in Encore au sujet de Facebook on Climb to the Stars

These last two posts have made me reflect on usage and architecture. Bravo pour le contenu. I've been doing a lot of thinking concerning Facebook as you know and now I think I will be able to use it properly. The key is in not letting it take over your "sphere" and through having the courage to ignore requests to join, participate or interact with the myriad apps that get thrown at you.
I'm going to give it a try anyway.

Steph, I don't know how to say this but I found your old blog to be "prettier" ... :-) I have a few issues with the theme. The essential however is the content and as always it is excellent. Your opinion counts a lot and I'm a very happy visitor.

Wonderful! The conference and the initiative might even prompt me to use some free time I have right now. If I can do anything to help just let me know!

in Too Many People on Climb to the Stars

I can relate to a lot of what you write and I understand where you are coming from. From my point of view I have a lot of difficulty with superficiality and try to make what happens around me as meaningful as possible.

In reality I have few friends because I am probably too "exacting" with those that I meet. I don't relate well with shallowness and prefer to get to grips with "bigger questions". I am realizing that that makes me somewhat "intense" so a lot less fun than someone who is able to relate on different levels ;-)

I think the problem with social networks is that there is a tendency to spread yourself very thinly and if you lack a large central core this can be very uncomfortable.

Social networks seem to be somewhat similar to the whole web 2.0 phenomena. They are at great risk of implosion due to the sparkliness of new haunts that compete for our attention. You build somewhere and put a lot of effort into something and one day all your "friends" go elsewhere.

I was very involved with the MMORPG community for a few years but my buddies and I stopped playing and it's not the same online fun as it was.

I was also very involved with Orkut too but those that I knew left and the whole Orkut scene seemed to shift to South America.

I was starting to get into Facebook but I can't deny that there is a rift in age groups which makes it hard for me to sustain a presence.

So it seems to me (without unduly rambling) that often I have been out in the jungle looking for elephant footprints when the elephant is in reality at home.

I think that ultimately (and surprisingly) my blog reflects me as I am which is why I keep on with it. What I will not do however is to be who I am not or try to portray me as someone different which would be unsustainable in the long term.

I don't comment here as much as I should but permit me to add that I had a lot of fun meeting you and it is only time and distance that have prevented me from showing up at Bloggy Fridays which is a shame as it is "only" 60km or so isn't it.

I'm proud to be a "fan" of yours and your blog and your posts are always a source of pleasure and discovery. I envy your travelling and all the friends you have but I could never do what you do and that's fine. I must add that your intelligence and social concern shines through. We share bilinguality and some geographical proximity and I'm very happy and comfortable with my "place" in your social network.

I wish you your deserved share of happiness and if I can contribute to that I will. Happy Sunday!

in There’s No Place Like Home on Climb to the Stars

Welcome home! Although with Twitter and Pownce and your online input you were not as far away as you could have been.

If you have a spare moment next week during the day I'd love to say hello. Tuesday, Thursday or Friday would be great.

in Borders: Intentionally Misleading Marketing Ploy on Climb to the Stars

Hmm, I read this one *exactly the same way Steph. Might it be because we are less exposed here in Switzerland to this sort of marketing ploy.

I agree with you on this and I'm biting my lip and struggling with a strong envy to rant on similar ploys that we are seeing regularly.

I'll stop right here if you don't mind. :-)

Mmmm nostalgie. Suis un peu perdu mais très content ...

Parralels marche vachement bien.

I like it and it works well. Import of some of my maps from MM6 worked without a hitch. I haven't tried importing from Freemind. Thanks!

Looks great to me. I would be particularly interested in the collaborative aspects of mindmapping. Being able to work together à la GoggleDocs so to speak is promising. I've been waiting to see what Google are going to do with JotSpot but it's turning into a long wait ... :-(

If you have a spare invite I would love one.

in The Shadow IT Department (and Shadow HR) on Climb to the Stars

I read this last week and the weekend has passed by. Returning this morning I see that I'm the only one to comment yet. I really must come to a Bloggy Friday soon. Your articles merit to be debated rather than commented upon sometines and this is one! Working in the Geneva Government I am all too aware of parallel structures. IT of course is a good example but I hadn't realized (or hadn't thought about it which is more likely) about parallel HR structures. Interesting! Thanks!

Thanks for posting these summaries it helps. I really must try and come to Lift next year (By the way my colleagues Patrick and Giorgio are there so I'll get even more feedback). I'm leaving a comment here because I had the pleasure of listening to Lara latd last year at the OT day in the Engineers School here in Geneva.

in Rédaction d’infos pour ciao.ch on Climb to the Stars

Bravo!!

in List of Drawing Tools on Vitaly Friedman’s blog on Note Talkers
I heard about this yesterday and within a few hours I had my copy of Mindmanager installed and ready to roll. They have promised to tell me why they are doing this next week in an English announcement. I wrote my mail both in English and in French and was therefore asked which language I desired my copy to be in (nice touch).
