in Neck-grab video grounds Salem cop on The Salem News
Its amazing because when the TV News stations tried to talk to these Arested folk they all hid from the cameras. If they were really not at fault then they should have been talking to the camera and not hiding in the dark. So we are not getting all of the story just what the video shows. What happened before all this happended on video tape. These Arested folks were hiding the truth.

NotIgnorant Would you go on TV and criticize the police? If you do I bet you will get pulled over a little more often. Do you think its really up to the people arrested to tell the truth? Why don't you ask the police for the truth. Good luck getting it because their story has changed several times.

in Selectmen: Just say no to Question 1 on The Salem News
if the people vote no then politicians are still going to ask for more moeny from the tax payers of Mass with Prop 2.1/2 overides. Which was voted in place as a stop gap so city and town politicians can not tax you more that 2.5 percent more every year. If you vote no then if your the one who complains about the abuse in state goverment then look in the mirror thats who you can blame. If you vote yes on question then you are a true patriot who is standing up to free spending politicians who love to scare you with everything will be cut. But what should be cut are the dead wood city and town employees, useless programs. The SImple and basics not free hand outs. Thsi is why NH has it right and their home owner taxes are around the same as here in Massachusetts, I know I used to live in NH. You see voting yes on question 1 stops the politicians just giving the Rubber stamp yes on everything and make them work within their means. But a No vote means the rubber stamp yes keeps on getting its yes.

in Axcelis Technologies lays off 200 after losing $30M on The Salem News
the semi conductor business has been in the tank since the late 1980's. Mostly all of that business has been sent to china or South Korea. This company has nothing to do with the police dept. This company is at fault using flawed business model's. a business should spend within its means the profit it makes should be put back into the business not the stock market. If I was a employee of this company I would be asking the CEO why don't they take a pay cut to save jobs. The whole thing with the peabody Police dept. is a problems with the politicians , and the people who live in peabody who failed to pay attention what the town politicians were doing. If the people of Peabody want to get involved they should do a recall election of the the town politicians.

Bobby Quine Dude, ACLS' primary CUSTOMERS are in Korea and China.

It's not like they're trying to sell product here in New England. And, no...the semiconductor business has not been in the tank since the 80's. It goes up and it goes down. Right now it's down. The years 1995 through 1999 were great years for semis.

You're right on the flawed business model to a degree but in a highly cyclical and very expensive, 'winner take all' industry it is not for the meek.

in Palin urges NH voters to give McCain comeback win on Nashua Telegraph
As you see people are now getting smart to Palin, a republician airhead. It makes you now wonder why McCain chose her. If this was the best choice that the Republicians have then the Republicians need lots of help. there were better people to pick but McCain chose this airhead for VP. I am waiting for McCain to supend Palin and tell her to go back to Moose country in Alaska.

When this store open it was great I got a few jackets, but I went there two weeks later and it was all torn apart and not one of the employees did any thing. But after reading how this company runs in all of the internet news sites with their Ivy league morons runnning this into the ground it looks like a retail Enron is taking place.

in Life in limbo for grads who failed MCAS on The Salem News
Heres a simple soultion this person should have went and taken a GED test. its he same as a diploma. Also if they want to go o college they can take night courses at colleges. because colleges don't care about diplomas they care about is the money if you can pay it or not. but for the people saying lowering the education standards how many of you out there are willing to take a MCAS test now since you already have a high school diploma? I an tell you if you ask a state politician to take the test they will refuse because they know they can not pass it like the people who already have diplomas. And I am not talking about the people who had to take the MCAS already and gotten diplomas but the people who got their HS diplomas who still say we need this test. Also folk if you think we need it we are making parents and schools spend more money on this test along with your taxes which fund this test talk about waste of tax payers dollars.

in Electoral College has outlived its usefulness on The Salem News
Lets see you win Californit you get the large number of Electorial votes, thats the same as losing by one vote. Our founding fathers did not relize that we would have allot of states in the union and they too would be saying its time to end this Electroial College. that would happen in a real world but in our world no one is going to do anything.

slick1 Whew

1) It is "California"

2) It is "Electoral"

3) that's = thats

4) realize = relize

5) a lot = allot

6) it's = its

7) It is "Electoral"

The Electoral College was instituted so the 4 most populous states (Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia) would not be able to sway an election through popular votes. A similar problem would arise today. Candidates would pander to 5 or 6 states and ignore the rest.

Personally, if I lived in Rhode Island, Montana, North and South Dakota, Alaska, etc. this topic would scare me to death because there are cities and counties in this country that have a larger population than the entire state. The interest of these states and their people would get lost in the fight for the big states.

This is the situation that the founding fathers wanted to avoid.

this whole situation will end up with a court judge actually saying he can be fired. this guy has no right to this job where you sleep on the job. this is public saftey not someone working at a McDonalds. Also this guy in the letter did not read or hear that this guy was asleep and other workers have said they do this. What is the letter writer blind to the reports? I wish people would stop writing letters with their head in the sand.

in Missed mail leads to neighbor feud on The Salem News
I read this article from the paper and it seems the city is very stupid and I see these people getting allot of money with a law suit. as Housing numbering goes any number witha letter is a resident at the same house. Where as the Neighbors who have 47A thinks its their right to have that number even though they should have number 45 and they have also refused to take any steps in changing it. I say if the people at 47 do not get their mail form the people at 47A have a nice lawsuit with both the postal service and the resident at 47A. Also any contractor just barging into a house without knocking is certanly a contractor I would never hire. This is just another Black Eye for the City of Peabody who by all means want to stick their heads in the sand like it never happened.

But no I've seen bike rider just blow through a red light. I am waiting for the day I see one blow right through a red light and get hit so when the cops come I can be a witness and say he just went throough the red light. Cross walks are for pedistrians bikes are not people they must follow the rules of the road like cars.

I am glad this guy got a ticket and that the state is finally going after the people with the Illegal placards for handicap parking. its been a long time and finally people are catching on. Now if we can only get the people parking in Fire lanes at shopping centers. I'll tell you if money for cities and towns start to become scarce you'll see patrols ticking them too.

in Letter: Patrick plan upholds MCAS standard on The Salem News
Why have midterms for kids? Just have the teacher teach for the MCAS test. it seems thats all the state careas about. If you give this test to the state reps I bet 95 percent would fail. I think to be a state Rep you must take the MCAS test to run for office. Lets see how many people step up to the challenge. I bet the number would be ZERO! If kids don't pass and get a diploma all they need to do is get their GED. todays High school diploma does not mean anything to colleges to get into a college its all about the money. The MCAS does not perepare you for life all it means is that you can pass a test.

This lady speaks about teh MBTA and the Schools. SHe is living in a fantasy world. I should write her at the board she is on and ask her why the Busses and trains are always late or broken down. Her letter is stupity at its higest, someone who has their head so deep in the sand. she probally thinks the streets are made of gold. The T's busses and trains make more polution than todays cars, I guess she has not been in one of the T's garages to take a deep breath. I may write a rebuttal letter and fax it to the Paper, also th people of Beverly should toss out the state rep there for voting no to the tax free weekend. Also the letter writier should learn more about state goverment because the school building are still falling down because no one cares and gives the 1 percent.

in Letter: 'Mamma Mia!' was a disappointment on The Salem News
you hit the nail on the head wthis is one that should have never been made. this review, the movie is terible. Why does hollywood take Musicals that are hits on broadway and put them on the big screen? because Hollywood can not come up with a good idea for a movie. Look at the recent musicals that were flops. Evita talk about over production and using such a lousy actress in Madonna did anyone tell her that her 15 mins of fame been up since the 1980's. "The Producers" yes this was a remake of the first movie and this one one should have stayed on broadway. I think when it came out on film no one even noticed because it was out on DVD so quick and on HBO this was pathetic. As for mama-mia this should have stayed on Broadway the movie is so lousy the actors can not sing a note. This move is like watching a burt renyolds lousy comedy. I think Hollywood needs to come up with a musical that is not on broadway and then after its made it can go to broadway and earn a second life. Will this movie spawn a Mama-mia2 just like grease2 another movies that should not have been made. This is why movies comming from outside the USA have a plot. The Hollywood movies we see note are horror, and washed up ideas from Saturday night live people who can't act either. Or even comic book's. Allot of dead actors are turning over in their graves seeing the garbage thats is being put out now. I just yearn for a good old John Wayne movie whihc has a begining a middle and a end to it, not a movie that says you have to wait for the part 2 and 3 to find out about how the story ends.

First of all someone said the people working there is not their problem well it is your problem because your tax dollars fund the unemployment along with the company that it has to put in. Also if they build housing on the waterfront who going to buy it in a lousy housing market? BUilders are scared to build anything because of the housing crisis and if you think its going to end anytime soon think again folks. Also how are they going to afford this housing? Section 8 people? are they going to afford it working at the witch museum? Hello folks the jobs have gone to China. Also resources for electric power are starting to grow shorter. Think about it when you plug your LCD or Plasma Tv's and turn them on to watch Cable TV, and think about it when your cooking your food on a electric stove, and all of those space heaters your going to use because you can't afford Oil for your home. think about it now and take a look when National Grid raises the rates. when the Bills are due you'll be screaming. Oh and the folks who think using wood burning stoves yes it will warm your home but won't give you hot water for washing dishes and taking baths and showers. if your more worried about black snow I think you should be more worried about this upcomming winter.
Ryan LOL you're not going to have section 8 on the waterfront, or trouble selling off luxury waterfront condos. But who knows what a developer would want to build - the sky's the limit.

There's plenty of power plants already in the planning/development stages across Massachusetts - one's in Billerica, Walpole, Brockton, Westfield and Russell for starters. Salem and the area already did fine for 6 months without them, with some of those plants we'll have excess electricity for years to come. Don't be so afraid of a newer, better, more vibrant city.

Hey your right too the greedy people who knew they could not afford houses and got loans. they were the ones who got turned down from a bank and when to these mortage lending companies who fudged everything. Hey your making Min wage you can affrd a Milion dollar house. And all of these people are screaming they want a hand out from the goverment. yes they are greedy too! but also the banks did not take a hard look at these lending companies either so they are to blame too this is all like the S&L scandal of the late 1980's. Also like the dot bomb crisis of the late 1990's too. It seems like no one learns in the banking industry. BUt also remember banks gave loans out to people who were not citizens of the USA too and I've seen so many home go empty in the area. Heck with people asking pricesing to see these homes before this at way to high prices. I've saw that this was going to happen back in the 1980's so I was off by 20 years. I hope the prices for homes go crashing into the ground that banks have to give them away.

in Power plant foes step up opposition on The Salem News
For the people on here who want to close down the power plant, where are you going to get your electric power from to keep up answering people on here? Also how are you going to use your A/C when the price of Electricty is going to go up? You think National Grid is going to give you a break? Before you say close down the plant think of all of the electric gadgets you use in your home like a lamp, TV, computer, washer, dryer, and a stove that use electric power. Are you willing to give up all of your appliances to close down the power plant then stand up and say you will do it. Also remind you if you use Oil Heat think of the polution comes out of your chimmey. Hey why not close down everyones house who uses oil too. Peronally I don't care if you say you lived in salem all your life or if you lived there a week or don't live there at all. Can the workers who will get tossed out of a job are you going to pay them? I don't think you will step up to the plate. Will you like to see them tear it down and build a housing project with more section 8 people? think about it and look at everything as a whole instead of "What about me." Also take a look at your car and when it snows do you complain that the snow is black in the street because of the cars and and sand? Before you complain about tear down the power plant learn about the basics first before you start opening your mouth. remember there are two sides to coin the before and after.
Joe Camel 1. National Grid can buy electricity on the open market at competitive rates from Canada or other sources. We are not dependent on it just because it is in Salem.

2. Workers will have to find other jobs - that's the way the global economy works. Maybe they can get a job at the Witch Musuem. Not my problemo - it's theirs.

3. It is prime waterfront property that can be repurposed into housing, retail and business use that will produce jobs and tax revenue while cleaning the environment.
