in How to Crack into Google’s Servers and Find Search Keyword Gold on John Cow dot COM
Useful tool, and definitely worth checking out.

One note of caution though - I replicated the searches you outline above, and got totally different results in the rising searches section.

It's great for getting ideas about what is hot, but the rising search data should be treated with caution, and should probably be cross-referenced against another source before diving head first into a new niche.

Charles Ya, even one letter can change the results a lot. Like digital camera vs digital cameras (plural).
And any difference in the time periods or locations will again change the results.

in The link blog effect on Scobleizer
Interesting that, while some posts featured on your linkblog get a healthy boost of extra traffic and subscribers, others get none. My site, for example, was prominently linked to in one of the posts you featured a month or two back, and I didn't get a single hit.

I write a site on Russian politics, so it's not surprising that no-one clicked through, but I find it fascinating how people reading even varied feeds such as yours unerringly home in on the topics that remain dearest to their hearts.

By the way - please don't take this as a complaint! I very much enjoy reading your link blog and (being primarily a politics nerd myself!) love it when you feature political blogs from time to time...!

in More about RSS on Paul Jacobson
The stats do look a little dodgy to me.

Take the half of all RSS users are under 40 statistic, for example. Which means that half of all RSS users are over 40 as well.

in Why pay for newspapers? on Martin Stabe
I have to say that, since I've started blogging, I read far more widely from newspaper websites around the world - and usually for free.

But I also buy a newspaper almost every day. Why? Because flicking through the pages of a newspaper is the quickest and most effective way I've found to keep a eye on lots of stories at the same time, and to rank their relative importance. (The number of column inches dedicated to a particular story is very difficult to judge on the net, but can be ascertained at a glance using a real newspaper).

Plus, there's something very comforting about the feel of a newspaper, and of having to wash one's hands after reading...
