in Want to Read Sarah Palin’s Private E-Mails? on The Inquisitr
Posting the illegally obtained e-mails of an elected government official is "fair use"? Really?
This really disappoints me, as a reader, I would have thought that you wouldn't stoop to Gawker levels for traffic, and then hide behind "fair use".

He knows RSS and blogging? That's like endorsing someone as a Nascar driver because they can work the windshield wipers.

Nice guide, this is how I take care of my revolver, too. :)

in Are the Suburbs Killing Your Manhood? on Art of Manliness
This was a great read, really enjoyed this article. Reading it reminded me of a movie I say on PBS a while ago called Alone in the Wilderness. I think you can read a bit about it on. It followed a fellow named Dick Proenneke who build a rugged life for himself on a lake in Alaska. If this article struck a chord with anyone like it did with me, watch that movie, it will inspire you a bit, I am sure.

in 10 Reasons Real Men ‘Go Green’ on Art of Manliness
I find it interesting that the same scientists who think that we evolved over millions upon millions of years believe that we can kill it off in a matter of a few decades. The earth has been able to cope with heavy pollution in the past (such as the debris that spews from volcanic eruptions and the like), and it will continue to do so in the future. The earth has gone through several periods of warming and cooling, and I imagine that at some point it will enter a cooling cycle again, and we can all freak out about how the oceans are freezing at alarming rates or whatever.
Frankly, I don't need climate change scare tactics to make me respect the environment. God blessed us with it, and because he did, I will be a good steward of his blessing. Nuff said for this man.

in Every Man Should Carry a Pocket Knife on Art of Manliness
Ah, the trusty pocket knife! A gentleman's tool if ever there was one. I have been carrying a pocket knife ever since I was a wee lad (which is a wonderment, considering how paranoid my mother was about almost everything else). My favorite out of all the knives I've owned was a little Old Timer jack knife. I have had a ton of knives since then, but since it was my dear granddad (who has since passed on) who inspired me to get my first Old Timer, it will always have a sentimental value to me.

in Give Rev Wright a chance to convince you (Scripting News) on Scripting News
It would have been interesting to see what his other two responses were. In the wake of 9/11, "self-examination" was not really an option for our government to respond with, so I want to know what the other two things God allegedly told Wright were.
That aside, if Wright has truly been trashed falsely by the media, why didn't Obama just stand up for him? Part of me thinks Obama threw him under the bus for political expediency, and if that's the case, then I wonder just how different a candidate he really is.

I doubt most Americans would have been willing to sit through the lecture on prophetic preaching in the Black Liberation theology tradition. It was easier to denounce the word, because there are a lot of folks who wouldn't get it anyway. Just look at some of the comments on the longer clips at youtube, the ones that provide context. People still don't get it, even after watching the whole thing. Unfortunately, a large number of people made up their mind based on what they saw last week and no context in the world is going to make them think it's ok to say "God damn America." The goal is to keep that population as small as possible.

in So You Want To Become a Man on Art of Manliness
This is a great post, inspires me to continue on my quest to be the best man/husband I can be. I think that one of the defining characteristics of becoming a man is learning to understand and take hold of what it means to be responsible. Of course, if a guy adheres to the guidelines you presented, then I guess we can assume he would be pretty responsible. :)

in Building The Perfect Dopp Kit on Art of Manliness
Good post! Here are a few things that I keep in my kit that weren't on your list:
-A little black film container of quarters. (For parking meters or emergency pay phone calls)
-Some sort of styptic. (Stop those pesky razor nicks from bleeding in a jiffy)
-Nail or cuticle scissors (to trim up stray nose or eyebrow hairs)
-Gold Bond powder (no need to explain, we are all men here) :)

in 14 Ways To Affair Proof Your Marriage on Art of Manliness
I could not agree more with this post, kudos to you for writing this. Governor Spitzer's moral shortcomings should serve as a reminder to us all how important it is to step up and care for our marriages, and to cut out any sort of behavior that could jeopardize them. This post inspires me to continue to try my best to honor my wife and my marriage, which is truly the manly thing to do. God bless you for this post, I hope it gets a lot of reads.

in Microsoft’s cool new research building, a photostory on Scobleizer
So it turns out that secret Microsoft project that made Scoble cry was a digital parking garage counter?
Hee-hee, I kid, I kid!
Seriously, though, very interesting, I would love to take a tour of that place. The giant whiteboards and the bookshelf hallways are my favorite. Although, now I really, really want to know what this secret project is that you talked about in the last post! I am guessing my patience will be rewarded.

I'm happy to take that on board. JR has my 100% support in making the call to publish this. Our interest was in being part of the conversation on a topic as it crossed both politics and tech (and you'll see my 4chan follow up as well in where this is heading), perhaps we could have done it better. Certainly though these sorts of posts aren't big traffic drivers for us (least based on our first 4 months) so I can promise you that traffic wasn't the biggest factor.
In terms of fair use, taking a screenshot from a publicly available site does, at least within my understanding of copyright law, constitute fair use. In saying that in no way am I, nor the site condoning the act that saw these emails enter the public sphere. We're not hiding behind fair use, it's simply a case in fact, until I hear a convincing argument otherwise.
